Now my question to you, is it the responsibility of the original author to correct the information in an old post if it has changed, or should those who read the information later verify it themselves? Have you ever come across any old information that was once correct but is no longer valid?
When it gets technical, always verify the information. If you read the information from somewhere, an old thread, you should be curious if there have been more update, that is why you need to create a new thread, ask questions, and listen to opinions. Information from 1 year ago might change, the good thing about the forum is that whatever new upgrade happens doesn't fail to be announced on the forum. I have always learnt not to get stuck on one piece of information, updates happen each day. The less you know, the more prone to attack you become.

Well threads are created often in this forum, so I believe whatsoever information you are looking for even if it's not updated by the first OP who created a certain thread certainly someone else would create a slightly similar thread, but with more information than the previous, which sparks discussion with different perspectives and opinions. But if you as an OP think your thread is worth updating from time to time, then it would be good there is still nothing wrong there........ Still I believe it's the responsibility of the reader, not the author to do research on anything they find interesting in the crypto space, because I believe in this space the knowledge is endless. Even most threads are just like summaries, not full topics so the idea is most threads are to spark conversation, inform users, spark debates, draw out opinions on where you don't understand, and also share thoughts on your experience by writing something based on personal experience. All these are the kinds of threads I have seen so far, so to me all of them are worth doing research on, both old and new, as a newbie and OG. That's a responsibility, so you can be precise with what your knowledge .That's all.....

This comes the importance of what is known here as 'DYOR' which stands for do your own research and it is because no matter the timeline of a post or quality, there's always the percentage chance that it is skewed or incorrect, hence why it is necessary to always do personal research to ensure that any information gotten is credible and trustworthy before implementation. The responsibility of using any information here boils down to the user and that's the most important thing because when you make mistakes and lose your funds, it isn't the poster that suffers, but you who failed to confirm if the information is legit.

There's what they call DYOR do your own research after getting fed by any information out there, you're to check other various sources information to contrast and to compare to verify what is correct and what is not correct then before you finally digest any information that you come across wether it's old information or new information always DYOR.

It is not that a post becomes irrelevant as it gets old, it is possible that it is wrong regardless of the time period of the post. There are still many old thread in the forum which are still active. The whole thing depends on technical so when you start reading other people post you should definitely not come out of there by reading what the OP is saying, it is very important to patiently read the following post carefully so that you can understand whether the information given by the OP is wrong or right.
Knowledge shows people the right way so I think it is reasonable to do your own research before doing anything and then take a decision.

Op is the only one that have the power to correct the information in an old post if there's need for the post to be updated in order for it to correlate with the latest information so that it can be helpful to newbies that will seek information from the post. Relying on one source when seeking for information isn't a good way to get solution and grow as a newbie. Whether you stumble upon an old post in the forum that was updated by the op or not, you should learn to DYOR, this will help you to find different solution to your problem and it will give you a clue to the solution to reply on.

Informations that are outdated can be asked to be updated later in a separate thread where the attention of the OP will be drawn to that. Many informations here are still valid and correct and if there is an otherwise, most of them must have already been updated or corrected by moderators of that board if need be. Newbies should also seek for more explanations and suggestions on posts that they doubt their authenticity. This is the best way to reduce spreading misinformation and confirming existing information to still be valid till date.

I am new to this forum and have opened this topic out of interest to learn more about the subject. If there are any mistakes or inconsistencies in my discussion, I would be grateful if experienced members could correct them. And if I have unintentionally written something outside the forum rules, I will try to correct it if you let me know. If necessary, the moderator can take appropriate action regarding the topic. I welcome everyone's opinions and suggestions.
The reason why we have date and time on a thread or post is to show whoever sees it in the future that this was the time when such message was published on the forum, and for that reason, depending on how long that information may have existed. Any newbie who comes across such information should have known that changes might have occurred and searched for the more recent information regarding that topic, or probably ask us here on the general local board. Because there is nothing wrong in asking questions for enlightenment, rather than relying on information you are not sure about.

Many of us search the internet first when we want to know about something. Especially when we need to know something about Bitcoin, we also read old forum posts. But one thing we often don't pay attention to is whether the information that was correct a few years ago is still valid. Suppose, a new member comes to the Naija board and reads a post from three years ago. There, a service is called reliable and the rules for using it are also explained. But in the meantime, the rules of the service may have changed, or it may have been closed. If a new member follows that information without looking at the date of the post, he may get into trouble.
Ìf it is information that is about rules and if it is an old one you would know because old rules are not talked about but only the new existing one and if it an information that has to do with bitcoin in the past, going through it you would know it is an old information that is not existing any more and its up to you to continue with it to get knowledge and even if you decide to further there is nothing wrong abour it because no knowledge is a waste. Old information may not be relevant today but it will always be talked about. If newbies are reading old information it means nothing but gives good sound knowledge.

It is not the responsibility of the author to go correct the informations especially if he was right at some point back then and maybe his opinion couldn't stand the test of time and it was changed. Even for this forum, there is this warning prompt when you try to write on a thread that have not been written on in the last 120 days and it is advised that a new thread be started if the matter for discussion is important which simply means that, any information that has stayed for over 4 months needs to be verified before digesting and it is the sole responsibility of the investor to do their research as they are the only one responsible for whatever action they take.

Old posts that are more than 120 days have warning on them beforypu get to reply to them, you are told that the post or thread is an old one if you want to make research for more new current discussions about that information, secondly if you find an old thread you should do well to read the entire thread itself, most especially the last page because that I where the current and more recent contributions are and easily accessible.
On editing posts, old posts don't need to be edited, but if there are mistakes that are discovered later on, such mistakes can be corrected.
Lastly don't rely on only one source of information; Bitcointalk is a discussion forum where members write based on their own understanding and knowledge; try to do your own research before you arrive at a conclusion.

Old threads needs verification but then old thread that's not longer relevant will not stand the test of time. Looking out if there's update about any information will reduce chances of being prone to attack big or small. Information is power, but then information must be properly scrutinized to know the validity of such information, not doing that means attacking one's self.

It is very important that one should keep updating himself with every information associated with this very forum, and with Bitcoin investing as well, and you can do that through proper research. However, when it comes to forum information, in many cases topic that have stayed for a very long time or seems not to have much relevance are usually locked, and therefore members will always bring updated information confirming to Bitcoin investment, and other areas of interest. It is true that information can change, but many if the members here are always updating themselves, enabling most of the information given here to be very reliable.

You are absolutely right. Bitcoin no longer works the way it used to, its entire ecosystem has changed in terms of pricing and other things.
Pricing does not change the ecosystem of bitcoin, I don’t know where you all are learning all these from. Bitcoin price has never remained static since it was invented. Bitcoin is a volatile assets, price changing shouldn’t be surprising to anyone. Bitcoin ecosystem hasn’t changed everything is just the way it has been. The supply is the same, bitcoin has remained a decentralized currency. So I don’t know what ecosystem change you talking about. In the past, the price of Bitcoin used to fluctuate in a cyclical manner, but in the present day, a lot has changed. Perhaps as more people adopt Bitcoin, the previous charts will become more random.
institutional investors are now investing in bitcoin, governments included. These institutional investors and governments buy large quantities of bitcoins and they don’t sell as frequently as individual investors used to do in the past, that’s why the price of bitcoin don’t fluctuate as much as it used to do in the early years.

I think it should be a shared responsibility on both sides but majorly the responsibility of the individual seeking information to verify whether it's still valid or not. We know that change is a constant so it's possible that an information could be outdated but this doesn't mean an old post is totally useless. They could still guide you in the direction you're looking to go but have few updates that will serve you better like policies and security practices. It's very important to stay updated so if you come across an information that you think needs to be updated then you could report to the moderator or something.

No information is useless, every information is very vital and important. The old information you see is a prerequisite for the new information you longed for. However, a constant follow up and research could help one be updated with things going on as information gives ideas on how things evolve entirely.
It is also good to always be updated because it would give you clues on the current trends and how to go about your activities in the society and also to get along with modern events and happenings surrounding areas you have dream of accomplishing. Having knowledge of the old keeps you abreast of the possible updates to encounter in the course of searching for valid information to help you in your endeavours.
With respect to updating a thread with old information to a new one, it is possible but the date would look discouraged. However, it would be nice you create a thread and tag the old thread calling attention of the readers to it so they too can do their own research about the information the sort for on the thread.

I seconded on this verifying of information. I was going through Twitter when an influencer posted that Satoshi wallet is just 12 seed phrase and his wallet has never been hack and the followers were doing the same thing, having the same discussion that is wrong. Satoshi wallets were bot created from 12 seed words, they are from his old Bitcoin wallet. The reply was given engagement vibes rather than making awareness, they were only spreading false information. The internet is so big that any person can lie, they can form things because the more you reply them and the have views, the more money they make. Some platforms that is paying this influencers are not helping. They pay without verying information posted unless when community notes are added in the comments section and still verify before they disengage the post.

It is never right to trust everyone's information and it is never a good decision to proceed based on the information of one person. Choose a person and see how many of his videos are spreading propaganda and how many reliable information there are. If a person makes reliable videos, then you can proceed by watching that person's video, but you have to verify from all other places. Another thing to note is how many likes his videos have received and what kind of comments everyone has made in the comments.

I don't thinks it's necessary to report to any moderator if one notice a change or update in any topic on any thread, it's can easily be adjusted or updated by the person that noticed the said update instead. Most of the moderators usually lock any thread that are being too spammed, so if such post should needs update it's won't be possible to update same. Also one of the Bitcoin related information that is always changing is it's value, and most of the people into Bitcoin are mostly always aware of any change in value, and doesn't necessarily needs to be updated.

Now my question to you, is it the responsibility of the original author to correct the information in an old post if it has changed, or should those who read the information later verify it themselves? Have you ever come across any old information that was once correct but is no longer valid? Nobody owns you anything, knew that and have peace then you'll be more careful of the information you feed your mind thereby verifying every information before you accepted them as truth. it's your responsibility and not that of anyone's because we speak, reason and write from the information we have and that mightn't be accurate but it could've been when we had the information. You can then inform the OP to update his threads with the new information and if he doesn't then you can call the attention of the moderators or create a more updated thread with more accurate information because like it or not, everybody is entitled to their own option on the internet. it might just be an oversight by the OP most times so always call their attention when you see threads like that, even AI do have information wrong some times.
