OP the best advice I'll give you is DYOR, whether it's a new thread or old one, there's no guarantee that the information there is factually correct or up to date, not minding the quantity of merit it carries as well. It's largely your responsibility to verify the authenticity of information you consume here in the forum. The OP(topic starter) can update it if they're motivated to, but that's not a yardstick to cling on. Before you utilize any piece of information, please validate it through your own independence research, this is why it's mostly preached here that you should NOT TRUST BUT VERIFY.
Doing personal research is very important, although some people might not bother to do any fact checking when they come across old informations because they assume that everything posted on the forum is correct, well not every but most people. Not every information that one might come across is hundred percent correct, that's why personal research is important just like you said.

An old trend is almost outdated, you can read it to acquire knowledge and then update that knowledge so that you will be current with the latest information that will keep you going and buy ever opportunity make sure you still read to get and update yourself.
Corrections are being made by anyone both old or new members in as much as you understand it more better, we learn every day, when an author produces a book, that book must have gone through series of corrections before publishing because at time, the author might not see his mistakes but the reader does and when being corrected verify it, make research to be sure, in that way you learn more, all that matters is that you should be open to correction

It is never right to trust everyone's information and it is never a good decision to proceed based on the information of one person. Choose a person and see how many of his videos are spreading propaganda and how many reliable information there are. If a person makes reliable videos, then you can proceed by watching that person's video, but you have to verify from all other places. Another thing to note is how many likes his videos have received and what kind of comments everyone has made in the comments.
The internet is now worse than ever. You know that people are getting incentives now to post now, it's now like more than half of internet users are monetise to get money for posting videos, articles and reels. If you enter YouTube, it's full of AI content that are not worth any information. Facebook is even the worse, just hope that you don't have an elderly person that is on that app, the things they post are too fake, you can barely see real information on the app. On top of this, there are scammers that are parading everywhere because the internet is full of people that does not understand the internet. Some understand but they are ignorant of how it works. Some people don't believe the way the outside is dangerous the internet can also be dangerous.

This forum is always and often times filled with correct and updated information from co-members. The moment as an OP you make a blunder in your post or even in a reply, you will possibly that same day the post was made or within same hour get corrected (if a nice person see's it first) or bombarded if a no nonsense person see's it first.
If you don't go to search for posts made years back, you will definitely not see a post of two years at the top of any section around the forum. Except those Mega threads flowing with steady discussion.

Moreover posts with recent informations are always on the front page of any board while the old ones very far so chances of stumbling on old informations in front page is rare except the person opens older pages to get old informations about certain things that's when the person can be misinformed about that particular thing. However. I don't expect that someone would just believe any information they see here wothout doing research themselves to be sure about the information the come across, people shouldn't be that careless.

Try to focus on the first page of a board for updated information. You should not start a thread from the bottom of a board at the beginning. If you cannot find the information in the first few pages of the relevant board, use the search button. If you cannot find updated information on the subject and the old information does not seem reliable, do not hesitate to ask questions on the relevant board.
Do not forget to do research before believing any information and also carefully research the source from which you are receiving information. Not all information and sources are acceptable.

Any information both old and new should be subject to confirmation before you can rely on them. Information provides insights which is still on you to validate the contents of that thread. The information in a definite thread might have become outdated as at the time you're reading it. I doesn't make what the OP stated wrong since it provided value as at the time it was published. You should be intentional about verifying if the information you encountered still applies to current standards.

Yes, this is what actually happens, if many people comment on a topic, then we first go to the last page of that topic and see what comments have been made recently, that is, we do not see the old ones, but we see the new ones that have been posted. Similarly, with the improvement of technology, people are getting used to that new technology, before there was no ChatGBT, it took a lot of time to solve any math or any other problem, but now it is much faster, so now people will give ChatGBT more priority than other sites. I hope you understand that new people are more interested in the new than the old.

With time we are facing new content. The point you have raised is very important. But the person who raised a topic 3 years ago may not know about the new topic immediately, most of the time we see that these changes are not made. But whenever something is changed especially something related to Bitcoin, many people create a new thread. So I would say that it is necessary to read not only the old thread but also the new threads along with the old thread. Because when he reads both, he will understand both and he will also understand which is right and which is wrong.
As the days go by, we will be able to learn new things, but if a new person comes to the forum and wants to learn from three years old posts, then of course he will have some misconceptions. Because many things change over time, so every new person needs to know these things first, it is important for them, there are also new things around the old things and they can also learn about them. However, in Bitcoin, whenever we see any changes, new posts are created and people discuss them, if someone wants to search for something according to the old posts, many times they do not find them for changes. However, after reading the old contents, it should be noted whether any new contents have been discussed related to that later. If someone can read the old and new contents well, then they will definitely understand very easily, so it is important for new people to note both.

Which old information are you referring to that have changed over time, Bitcoin is not science that knowledge is said to be outdated based on recent findings. To me as a newbie that's looking for knowledge and information every piece of work or thread that you can read to improve your knowledge is good. You don't necessarily need to reply to such thread, this is one mistake that most newbies do they don't take their time to study and understand enough before replying to post. It's important that newbies take time to read especially the rules that guides the forum especially on posting.
But , if you are talking about information that is changing about Bitcoin, it technology and how it works I don't think that much information about Bitcoin changes over time.
There are some post by some op that’s actually not 100% accurate both old and new but I believe if those kind of threads are old and still active, if someone is a newbie to the forum, before you reply or take any information, first you check the date when the op created that thread after reading the OP’s point, then you go to the most recent post on that thread by other members before replying or taking that information as accurate. If the op’s point has changed or not absolutely accurate, there will be recent or other post by other members debunking it. As a newbie both recent and old threads, you don’t just read the op’s post alone but also other members post before replying or taking any information because it will actually help you with the information you need to know and it also helps broaden your knowledge the more and not just relying on one persons idea.

Yes, it is the original author's responsibility to correct any old post if it needs to be updated with new information as there are many old threads on this Bitcoin forum that are still active. Basically my opinion those posts are updated from time to time by the original authors to match the new information so that the new members of this bitcoin forum can also learn about the new content from there. An example of which is this thread Buy the DIP, and HODL! it was updated in 2026, also OP, you should take a look this thread about MicroStrategy Buys $250M in Bitcoin, Calling the Crypto ‘Superior to Cash’ was updated three years after its creation mainly to add new information. So the OP should do his own research after getting any information from old posts and check with different sources to verify them so that you can find different solutions to the posts you doubt the authenticity of.

This is the point where most newbies get it all wrong, they believe that since information they need is online they have no need to start doing their own personal research before doing anything that's exactly why some of them get scammed both on the forum here and other places where they get information. The forum gives first hand information concerning any crypto related activities and things about Bitcoin but forum members shouldn't rely on the information they get here they should make out time to verify before they apply it to what they do. Scammers are everywhere if they know the weakest of a particular person they will capitalize on their to scam them that's why newbies needs to do more of research instead of being lazy to believe everything they come across.

First, what kind of Information are you guys talking about? It is true that we need to check any information thoroughly before we conclude or chose to make use of those information. Honestly, I don't think or see any information as invalid in Bitcoin investment or any cryptocurrency and if there is a change it's not much. Just like in trading, there are people who believe or think supply and demand doesn't work in trading but it's not true because it does.

Exactly, there is almost zero possibility that information posted here in the forum is invalid because there would always be room for corrections and modifications under the thread to pass the right information. Old information does not make it less valuable or accurate, but some information could be modified as time goes by, and that's a result of technology and security advancement. There are some pinned posts in the local board created years ago but still remain accurate and relevant till date, only that it could be modified from time to time to keep it updated to the newest version. Above all, personal research is one important factor that can never be underestimated, it beats whatever random information you could see online.

Unless you are visiting a pinned thread I don't see how you are planning on stumbling across a post from three years ago, if the thread was somehow still active then maybe you would think to read through some of it's most recent posts or even some or the post under the OP because if someone posted a wrong information here then still within the first page you are very likely to see someone else debunking so if you were actually looking to learn then you wouldn't just read the OP and leave the thread. Again, if it's not a pinned thread then most of the threads here are recent (unless you visit a mega thread) so the chances of you even opening a thread from 3 years ago is very low unless you were intentionally looking for a 3 years old thread.
The chances is very slim because most if the first page threads are the must active threads, the only thread that can be old are the in threads. Apart from in threads, then follow by mega active threads which the discussion is going on always which I don’t even think we have one here in the local board. And most of our newbies are not even used to the use of the search bottom here that can lead them to old threads of the relevant thread is not been created recently. Therefore, for someone to bump into an old thread that have stayed that long, the user might have gone back to maybe last 20 pages or so if we have then go to the inactive thread to pump which should be consider as a spam.

You mean ChatGPT or a new chatbot altogether? ChatGPT isn't a very reliable source of information, it's still good to take the details of information gotten from chatbots for further verification or at least ask for the sources of it's information and go read from the sites yourself. I do this most times and I see lots of inconsistencies with what the chatbot composes. People commenting on the last page can be anybody, from spammers to those that don't even understand the topic, so verification of any information is very important.

Personal research is the best way to navigate without any mistakes, because most of the bad experiences that many people have had are sometimes the result of not doing their own research. How you would just believe on someone else's information? It doesn't make any sense at all, because most of them don't usually tell the real truth and you won't know until you cross-check it very well.

I fear internet more than anything. The internet is becoming more dangerous than before. You know that if you see a video with more likes and comments before, you could easily believe that the information the video contained was true and that’s why people were engaging in it because they trusted the information. But unlike now, even if the video is fake people will take it as cruise. We have easy ways to make your videos to look real and even generate likes and comments by yourself. With these kind if things being used to get more likes and comments, you should know that many people who are lazy to do their own research and only believe what they see on the internet can easily fall into the trap. Many of these influencers use these websites to boost their videos and followers on the internet. We need to be careful.

Op please, can you show any old information that are now invalid, so I can possibly keen to understanding you more clearly.
You can start knowing when an old post about a wallet is invalid when possibly you try to apply the information on a wallet creation and then the steps had changed entirely, or the process of saving seed phrase is no longer 12 or 24 but now 32.
Using the old information on an app will tell if it's still valid or not.

There some certain example of old advice that if follow you can actually lose your money. An example of let a thread of 2018 might recommend a wallet which is safe as of then, but now it has being hacked and abandoned. You now see that if a newbie now follow the advice their funds will be no here to be fund. We should note that Bitcoin core rules does not change but when it come to security risks, network and software conditions changes most of all the time. That why you should double check Old advice.
