I was recently browsing through posts on a well-known trader's Telegram channel. He often posts screenshots, income statements, links to asset price forecasts, and so on. Interestingly, he spends some of his trading winnings on casino games. His casino winnings are random and generally unprofitable compared to trading. This got me thinking. Many people claim that gambling is wrong for fun; there's always an ulterior motive to get rich. Why do you think traders play casino games in this case?
Experienced traders like to take risks more, which is probably why they like casinos. Traders tend to go to casinos more because they gamble at the end of the day for entertainment after being busy all day. Since there are many similarities between trading and gambling, traders have a high risk mentality, so even though casinos are unprofitable, they gamble almost regularly. It is not just for entertainment or to make money, there is psychological factor involved here.
They walk around the market all day and make profits, so they gamble to make their peace or more profit because in gambling, the more the wagering, the more profit they get. Like they make profits with high leverage in trading, so they come here with interest to play every time. They do not need to put much brain in gambling because there are no graphs here that make it not interesting. When a trader makes profits from the market and also makes profits by coming to gambling, he can understand that he has luck and brain power, so he keeps doing this regularly. While one can make peace for himself or try to make profit for himself from two places. That happens when there is a loss again and again, so before that everyone comes like a normal person.

I agree with several of the previous comments and I think that he does it for the same reason that the rest of us should: for pure entertainment.

Beyond the similar psychological factors between trading and gambling as Alex077 just said, the calculation of the probabilities and all the technical part behind the game and randomness can also be very entertaining for people like the one mentioned who, apparently, enjoy mathematical analysis.

For me, a trader is also a gambler because he's gambling with the price wave of the market and that will make them gamble easily because of one same reason which is for the sake of profit. He is trying his luck in all angles to see the one that will favour him most. However, it might be that he's gambling for fun to clear his head after a long day trade. Just my thoughts.

Why do you think traders play casino games in this case?

Perhaps, he is seeking entertainment on gambling because he like taking risk but this time in pure random basis. Trading risk can be calculated through better analysis so he might be seeking more fun on unknown.

Many successful businessman that gain huge profit but still gamble for fun like Dana White with his good blackjack sessions. If we will use gambling the way it was designed, even a billionaire can still gamble if they find gambling a form of entertainment.

Some people are willing to take the risk of gamble. Some trader are willing to take risk on trading. They have their own risk. As trader they will try to study and learn how to come up with some trading strategy also try to apply the risk management. Gambler they will take the risk. But even when they are successful trader or businessman they still can be a gambler for fun. Not for money or success. But rather can he/she tell the difference between calculated risk or chance? Gambling is a type of recreation. That is moderate when not trying to offset loss or win money.

There are many cases where people become successful and wealthy through businesses they worked hard to build, only to end up ruining themselves through gambling. This is not about blaming gambling, but rather about a greedy mindset that always wants more and the belief that gambling can double their savings. So, casinos are clearly not to blame because gambling is supposed to be fun. If someone suffers huge losses and spends all their money, it means they have misunderstood how gambling works.

Someone might be successful as a trader or a business man, and engage in gambling as a fun or even as a means of making more money. However, not every wealthy person gamble for fun, but see gambling as a way of multiplying their money. There are several cases where people who were doing well financially eventually became weak financially because of gambling, and that is because they they attached so much interest to gambling thinking they could make more money from their . Not everyone are disciplined, some of us who ventured into playing of these casino games never entered it as a means of making money, but as fun, but went out of control and spend more money than necessary, and now see it as an alternative to generate more money.

I don't see anything wrong with a successful trader being a gambler, trading is a profession which is the same as other professions which the professionals are gamblers, gambling should mostly be a part-time hustle or entertainment for them. But ideally gambling shouldn't be taking as a job because they are luck based games which shouldn't be relied on for survival, if you're depending on gambling as a source of income you'd end up addicted to it if you're not lucky to be winning often. Considering the house edge that the casinos have over gamblers I believe that it is better to depend on your job to pay your bills and gamble for entertainment or a soft side hustle without too much expectations for profits.

It is also possible that the trader has been gambling since before but did not bother showing that side of his life to his trading channel for whatever reason.
Because if the reason is only because the traders are more likely to gamble because they find themselves comfortable taking risks, then you mean to say that all experienced traders was like that even without data. It's not because they are comfortable with taking risks doesn't mean they are interested in gambling. Since traders often spend a long time learning how to manage risk and they understand that without a clear strategy can lead to losses. Wherein, I find it really different in gambling because of the odds that is structured in favor of the house.

Even real traders gamble at times, not every time though.. and I’m not referring to the new age gamblers using trading as cover up Grin. So when you ask why , I guess some are used to just seeing that portfolio grow fast or get reduced fast..

Depending on the Casino games he’s playing though, some aren’t pure random where you can just loose that deposit anyhow.. At the end, it’s still all about making more profit.

I think there is no particular reason behind it because he does like to gamble nothing else.
Everyone can do anything in their life including for a trader because they are also free to gamble if indeed they want to gamble.

Even for athletes or influencers like Neymar or Drake just doing gambling regardless of the Drake problem that is currently happening it proves that anyone can do gambling.
So in this case is not it a natural situation (for now) when seeing someone spend their time and money in gambling after they get it because indeed most gamblers do this for now even though there will always be gamblers who know the limits in terms of time and finance in gambling but others even most people sometimes are still not aware of this.

It is even logical and it is easy to point out why it is easier for a trader to play casino since he is exposed to risk and can afford to bear it. what about the regular guy that is not that exposed to risk? truth is that gambling is a choice and regardless of what you are doing for a living, if you are interested in gambling, you can still do it without being judged. it is left for them to decide whether they are actually gambling for the sake of fun or just gambling as a means through which they can generate additional revenue. that you are a trader does not mean that you have everything all figured out and that you are not looking for more money. human wants they say is insatiable.

Honestly speaking, I don't see the need for a trader to jeopardize with his business by playing casino because we all know the dangers of it if he gets addicted in the process and couldn't control his betting habits, it automatically means he will go bankrupt from using his profits from the trading business to fund his casino. No amount of fun and entertainment should make a good trader go into gambling as it's as well risking his business and in no time he might crash from unnecessary funding the casino, so it's never ideal for business owners to use business money to gamble.

I personally think it's out of greed that some of the traders intend to gamble if not why will they gamble taking such risks, I understand that some people gamble to clear their head after taking some risks in their trading but I can only advise they play wisely so it doesn't affect their trading.

Why do people gamble in the first place?
Why do people gamble despite knowing that winning is not guaranteed?
Why do people continue to gamble even if it continues to worsen them financially?

All of those questions are also similar to your question OP. The answer is obvious- gambling is addictive.

Gambling creates this false sense of hope especially with tons of advertisements linking it with winning huge amounts of money in a single night. I am pretty sure you have read some stories about gamblers who have won the jackpot by betting only a relatively small amount of money. Lots of people, including me, dream of experiencing that ultimate joy. However, this hope often clouds our judgement into thinking that we would be able to achieve something similar despite knowing that the chances of that of happening is astronomically low.

If we are talking about a trader, then it is posible he just craves for risk or has a very high risk tolerance, which has made him to become and successful trader, but trading may be not enough for him, so he resorts to gambling and betting on casinos.

We must understand that greed is not something which is exclusive of people who have little money or no means no make money, rich and successful people (like that trader) are also vulnerable to greed, so if he is not gambling for the sake of fun, he could be seeking to get even more money from gambling, so he can retire definitely from trading and live comfortably.

Some people are not gambling because they want to make money from it. Some people are gambling just because they want to have fun.
Making money from trading does not mean he cannot have fun gambling, as long as he’s using only his discretionary income, I see nothing wrong and what he’s doing, I gamble because I want to have fun, I don’t gamble because I want to become rich from gambling and I believe a lot of people are also doing the same thing.
Sometimes we need to understand that some people are much more interested in the fun. Even though we often think that everybody is gambling for profit, there are people who are just after the entertainment because they have been playing the game for a very long time, so no matter how successful they are in their business, they would still want to enjoy the fun and move on.

Of course, that is exactly how I feel about the game too, I don't gamble to become rich overnight because I know that gambling depends on luck.

What i believe is that was a game of thrill and human psychology like in a trading a person is making strategies and doing analysis of a market while in a casino the excitement of instant reward is also available and some people love risk taking and also our brain as well love that what if game so may be that is why he is doing this any ways every one has it's own perspective and opinion on this but this is what i am seeing it from psychological perspective may be he want a big jackpot as well.

If that is true, there is no other reasons than he is looking for more money if he is using high amount of money to gamble. But if he is using little amount of money to gamble, he may be gambling just for fun.
Yes that's true, if he's using huge amount of money to gamble then he's actually looking for more money but if he's using small amount of money which is what he can afford to lose then he might be having fun, gambling is about these two things is either you are gambling in order to make money or to become rich or you are gamble because you want to have fun.
Whether you are gambling to make money from gambling or you are just gambling because you want to have fun make sure the money you are using to do that is money that you can afford.

Maybe, the traders are aiming for more tangible entertainment. Trading can be more tedious due to the amount of analysis required, and that is different from gambling in a casino. Casino games are clearly more entertaining, especially with the variety of game themes. By the way, you mentioned using some of the trading winnings for casino games. So, I think they are using it as a way to manage money; that can afford to lose, and maybe that is part of their risk management.

I think this is more like diversification and entertainment, most likely like what I do most of the time. What I earn from trading was usually distributed to a lot of savings and investing, and that includes gambling as well. I mean it wasn't all totally going all to gambling for sure, since there was no point if something is what anyone would do that wouldn't make any sense, unlike it was all for the sake of entertainment. That's basically the same thing if you are risking your money on trading and gambling, but gambling was just more entertaining since it was a game in the first place compared to trading, where you usually want to be patient.

If you're going to ask me whether trading would give you a higher chance of winning or getting rich than gambling, then if the user just wanted to get rich, it would probably be better to risk it all on trading than gambling.

Because it's almost similar to it. The difference is the speed of getting money. The winning part. But sometimes they forget about the losing part of gambling.

I traded before, and I got bored because the money was really slow. Worse, it required sleepless nights and endless analysis to make something. I think a trader may choose to play at a casino in the expectation of getting profits the faster way. A successful trader may be making money out of trading but sometimes it could get boring and there are stressful times because it feels like a job. It doesn't feel like that when you are gambling.

I honestly was about to say otherwise but after reading your reply completely I can't help but support your point, to make money from trading requires time and patience, it's also very stressful glueing your eyes to the monitor is not that easy.

This is why I only trade once in a week unless something big is happening in the market that's bringing in alot of opportunities, if not I would rather do something else.

Gambling on the other hand is wait and get, your result is instantly and fun at the same time, isn't this why majority of people lose their heads in gambling?

I think there will be no consensus on why traders gamble. Everyone has a variety of reasons, but the first thing that comes to mind is stress relief. Gambling can't have any analytics that are present in trading, or maybe traders are testing themselves on the ability to control their patience. Gambling and trading are different things, although many people try to combine them, but still, there is a good adrenaline rush in both, which makes a person behave in a certain way, especially when large sums are at stake.
