I want to get a very small solo miner and since I am not getting replies from a thread in mining section I think it's best that I create a topic about it.

Thor X1 for example, why is this miner more costly than the Bitaxe/Nerdaxe counterpart?
Is there something about Thor X1 that makes them better?

Also if you have to buy a small solo miner for Bitcoin, durability wise which one will it be?
And if anyone is already running many, which one has proven to be the strongest so far? That's if you are running different brands.

The Thor X1 solo ASIC is more expensive because it features a more modern chip, which offers a higher hashrate and better energy efficiency.

It has a larger display, superior cooling, and is an aesthetically pleasing device compared to the one you’re comparing it against.

It all comes down to your electricity tolerance, Thor X1 and other Thor miners are good at two things, stronger and efficiently, if this company starts to create Asic miners it will likely stands out.

If you are not in a position where your grid bill hurts then go for other cheap brand, the efficiency is there with Bitaxe too, like the ones with 1.5TH taking 18-20watt.

This small miners costs nothing consumption wise, you won't even notice them.
The smaller the better with solo mining, they start to become a headache when you go heavy on solo mining.

Attempting solo mining with a hashrate of 1–4 terahashes right now is a highly optimistic idea, you’d have a better chance of finding buried treasure in the woods with a shovel.
If I were to get into it, I’d do so with a hashrate of 100–200 terahashes, but only at night when electricity is cheapest,I’d shut the equipment down during the day.

It's on this forum that I read about solo mining, and that person said that the smaller the hashrate the better unless you have extremely cheap power.

I am also confused with your answer, what do you mean by power been cheapest at night? Is there some kind of new technology that brings people power in the night? I have never heard about this before.

Someone who wants to run 100 terahash must also consider how much power they will be burning on something that may never solve block for a whole year.

Most electricity consumption occurs during the day, while usage drops at night. To encourage electricity consumption at night, utility companies offer day and night tariff rates. For me, the rate is 6 cents during the day, and 3.5 cents between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
Many people set their washing machines and refrigeration equipment to run their main energy-intensive cycles during the night.
With a low hashrate in solo mining, the chances are practically zero, and if the hashrate is reduced further, mining becomes pointless.

The Thor X1 typically commands a higher price due to its specialized ASIC design, offering superior hash rate efficiency and thermal management compared to the open-source Bitaxe/Nerdaxe platforms. While Bitaxe devices excel in community support and modularity, the Thor X1 is engineered for robust, plug-and-play reliability. For durability and proven long-term stability in solo mining setups, dedicated ASICs like the Thor series generally outperform DIY-focused boards under continuous operation. If prioritizing minimal maintenance and consistent uptime over customization, the Thor X1 is the stronger choice for serious solo miners seeking dependable hardware performance.

There is always two sides to solo mining.

1. You aren't getting anything back until you hit a block, this can take you several years to achieve or never.
2. On the long journey of trying to solve a block you don't want to end up with dead miner.

If you are mining with a profitable miner and you are getting paid everyday then you miner later died I know this is a loss but if you are solo mining and your miner died which will be more painful?

This is why solo mining is more fun when it doesn't cost you a lot of money, but in your opinion it is better to go for reliable brands when it comes to mining, avoid ending up with dead hardware later.
