So tell me, is it greed, or is it just human nature? Why do people get upset over a bet they cashed out successfully, just because they would have won more?
I would say it's mainly about human psychology and greed, If a person cashed out for $4,000 to $18,000, he would have a guaranteed profit of $14,000. However when the game ends they realize that they have a sure thing and begin to think of the remaining $12,000 as lost. In fact sports betting websites have developed the cashout option to take advantage of the gamblers' fear and greed. The bookmaker always quotes the odds below the true odds to ensure that they make a profit. But in gambling, it is always a good idea to cash out a guaranteed profit. This is exactly what will cause them to take additional risks on the next try and lose them all.

I want to ask something very common about sports betting. Let’s say you stake $4000 to win $30,000, and while the matches are still going on, they offer you $18,000 to cash out. You decide to take it because you don’t want to risk losing everything. Now imagine you cash out and later all the remaining matches win, instead of being happy that you made a good decision and secured your money, you start saying, “Ahh, if I had waited, I would have won $30,000”.

I've been in this situation but the more often I bet I don't pay too much attention to it now because when the victory is enough and we want to Cash out then if later the remaining matches become a victory I don't feel this will be a regret because I am satisfied enough with the victory that we have cashed out before.

Regret (when I was at the beginning I was in sportsbetting) has indeed happened but on the one hand I know that the decisions that have been taken should not need to be regretted because from the beginning our mentality is not too good even though the opportunity is still there (before cashing out) so in this case decision making should be one of the things that must be considered from the beginning so as not to get after we make a decision to do something but regret afterwards.

Greed is a human nature and the answer is both. Personally, I will feel the same way of regret if this happened to me since I have an opportunity to win the whole 30K.

This is why I rarely take a cashout because I want to see the end result of my bet regardless of whether I win or lose. The only time I will take this cashout offer is when I suddenly needed that fund for emergency purposes while I don’t have remaining cash on my bank.

Greed is one of the biggest problems that I believe a lot of gamblers have, they are not contented with their wins, they are either using it to gamble to increase wins, chasing loses when they lose and blaming themselves if they cashed out and the game played to their prediction. Any gamblers who doesn't have self control will always unnecessarily be angry and frustrated if the games that they played didn't go exactly as they planned but it's not supposed to be so because we don't have any controls except our bankroll. As for cashing out I think that if you you decide to cash out you should move on from that bet, whatever happens doesn't concern you anymore, getting yourself involved would be problem for you if you would have won without the cash out.

There is no straightforward answer to this question.
It actually depends on the individual. A person who stakes a bet with $4k is probably a rich person. If he is a person who $18k doesn't mean much, then he is well within his right to get angry if he cashed out. He could have taken the risk for a bigger win.
If he is a person who $18k is very big money, then there is no need to be sad or angry about it. He has already gotten almost 5x his stake.
But the truth is, it's easy for us to sit here and say "he should be grateful for what he has got". It's human nature to wish for the best. If I cash out and all the remaining games win, I would be happy I got something tangible out of my bet, but I would still wish I had won it all.
The only time I can cash out is if the money that I'm being given is actually money that makes sense to win, and it's a lot compared to the potential win.

I really can't say if it's any of these two that you have mentioned. Because we all have the right to choice in how we choose to do things at every point in time. But personally, I do not like cashing out my games regardless. I prefer to enjoy it till the end of the game. Furthermore, the reason I am able to achieve this is because I always used an amount I can afford to lose so that even if I lose I wouldn't be worried.

OP, the $4k you used, I don't know, maybe it's was an example or whatever. Because if it was to be real, I suggest it is way high and that is most of the reasons people do use the cash option. Hence I see gamble as a game we should enjoy till the end unless an important need to do so arise.

There is no point in waiting, take profit while you can, it's just like trading, many people wait till the trade is over and it goes against them right after, a smart trader will use take profit auto feature and if they lose later on they have already secured few profits.

I think it's a very good thing that gamblers can take their win while a game is still on, I prefer this idea over waiting for the final whistle to blow, it safes time and it makes you secure some money, once a game is over you have no power anymore.

But I bet that some people won't like it, they always want to wait for the bigger prize and most of the times they ended up losing everything, sometimes as a gambler all you need is satisfaction.

Honestly, I feel some people focus too much on what they could have won instead of appreciating what they actually got.
In several threads, I often say that anyone who respects money and appreciates every win has a mature mindset as a bettor. Gamblers like that rarely express regret, regardless of how much money they could have won.

That's just human nature. Everyone wants a bigger win. But just because he says that doesn't mean he's greedy. Sometimes, people just say stuff like that without really meaning it. Deep down, he's happy that he turned $4k into $18k.

However cashing out in every optimal instance cannot be universal strategy. This is because bookmaker provide cash out offer based on current potential value of our open bet. And they have margin on that offer. simply cashing out when you see any profit does not guarantee that you are getting best possible price.

Suppose if I win my bet then total return will be $1000. And cash out offer is $700. Now according to my own calculation if fair probability of winning the bet is 80% then estimated expected gross return would be $800. In that case cashing out $700 reduces risk but it might not be best decision in terms of expected value. No matter how precisely we calculate probability, possibility of error always remains. Moreover cost of eliminating uncertainty is significant.

So, I don’t view cashing out merely as matter of fear or greed. I will consider how fair offer is, what remaining exposure is and whether taking that risk is reasonable for my bankroll.
Am not saying that i cash out at every instance rather i said at every ‘best instance’ in quote, definitely why will a bettor place a bet only for him to rush and make cash-out? that would definitely be a wrong strategy because he would always be on the losing side, but when you made a sports booking consisting of 10 games for example, and your stake was $500 and it is remaining 2 games left for the ticket to play and they show you a cash-out of $2100 to me i will cash out immediately even though i know that my final win would have been higher than the cash-out value but yet i would prefer to cash-out due to how uncertain gambling can be.

Another instance is if i made a sports booking with a stake of $1000 and after 85mins into the game the outcome isn’t going as i predicted and the sports book gives me a cash-out value of $200 obviously i have made some huge loss but instead of me to lose my entire stake completely it will be safer to accept the cash-out value, especially when the outcome is obviously not going my way.

But why are you angry? You chose to cash out because you were scared of losing, right? What if you had waited and one match spoiled the whole bet? Wouldn’t you be wishing you had taken the cash out?
Honestly, I feel some people focus too much on what they could have won instead of appreciating what they actually got.

So tell me, is it greed, or is it just human nature? Why do people get upset over a bet they cashed out successfully, just because they would have won more?

$18,000 won using 4k is a lot of money already, it's a massive win, taking the risk of waiting till the match is over is not a smart thing to do, what if it goes side ways and you lose the match? You will then start to feel like a stupid person for not taking the $18,000? Every win should be celebrated and this one is a massive win I would rather have that $18,000 than wait for that $30,000 finish line, this is the major problem with gamblers, they are too greedy with everything, knowing fully well that this is gambling space, it's a wild wild west.

Whether you call it greed or not, I think it is normal to regret cashing out early and then the remaining game eventually plays out. That doesn't mean the person is not happy for the $18k he got. He can be happy with it and still regret missing out on the main potential winning.

Also in cases where a person refuse to take cashout and then the remaining games ruin everything. That decision will make him regret too, especially if the partial cashout was very reasonable.

So the regret go both ways, it is because we know opportunity like that may or may not come again for a while.

No, this is not greed, it's human psychology. When you wish you had wait for a risk that later turned out better. If the outcome was the other way round, the same person that is angry will not be angry again, that's just how human brain is wire and function.

I think all human has greed to some extent but when it becomes too much, that's an extreme one to watch out. A regular person will be angry and the next minute will see as nothing and go there usual day. An extremely greedy person will want to risk the money next time and won't cashout, that's how they loss golden opportunities.

You're right,  it's better to cash out than to allow one game to ruin everything you have predicted,  I know it will hurt you for cashout out then the game later play,  then imagine not cashing out and you miss to cashout,  it's a two ways things,  this how gambling works every predictions are not sure when you see cash out it's good to get it even if the game later play its better then losing all. $18k is something to be proud off, you never work for it, you just gamble and it pay off. Even if the potential win I high but $18k is still better than nothing.  Betting is a dynamic I nature,  you can't Teel the next result.

In recent time have been getting cut one in my games because I refused to cash,  at the end it will cut and have been in regret for not cashing out, this one part of gambling that's hard to forget, have learnt my lesson, once I see 3x of my bet amount I'm cashing out, without waiting for the last game.  The regret of not cashing out and losing at the end is much than cashing out and wining your last game.  The feelings are difference.

Gambling isn't like holding Bitcoin where you are confident that you will be rewarded as long as you hold it, this is gambling when you take the risk and opportunity presnsts itself you are to take it, most people have lost money waiting around.

It's not a must to place bet on a match with the ability of taking profits while the game is still on, I have waited till many games are over but my point is why wait when you are in profits and can take the profit out?

Remember that odds is why many gamblers got lost, they did the math and they wanted the better reward so greed is a part of it too, as a gambler you need to know that it's you against prediction, no one really has any power over anything here.

This $4k bet with the potential to win $30k was very tempting. I think it would be fairer to take the $18k offer during the game, even though I could have gotten another $30k by waiting until the end of the match, I would still prefer to take a better decision than to take the risk.

As you said, many people do not value the presence of winning and in reality, because of the greedy nature of us, we have high expectations and do not want to miss the tempting opportunity of winning big.

Many gamblers will vote for $30k and that is also fair because they were betting to earn and no one will neglect this opportunity for a short time. It may be human nature or greed, it is fair however you evaluate it.

It works both ways, early cashing out would mean you walk out with a profit and not risk it for the rest of the game, but the casino knows how the human brain functions, they know the common person will not do this but wait the biggest possible win, only then will that person be carrying the risk for the longer period and in gambling - the more you leave the money at play the more the odds are that you are going to lose it all.

I do feel early cash out is tactical option to take for those who have had rough days. Small wins like these make the profit gradually go up and eventually the person reaches their goal for the week.

This decision may be either right or wrong. If it is impossible to decide how to act, then one should rely on folk wisdom; for example, a proverb: "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". Of course, you can regret the missed opportunity to earn $30,000, but a person’s entire life consists of missed opportunities. And should you regret everything? Ask any person whether they regret anything from their past, and they’ll say yes.

When you cash out you never cry, cash out today and regret it in the future say those who trade bitcoin (I read every now and then in the forum and in the chat) obviously it always makes me smile because i do the complete opposite, i am a person who is thinking about his old age.
However, don't think about it anymore, you have cashed in, be happy about it.

I think it's not so much about greed, but more about basic human psychology. People tend to judge their decisions based on how things turned out, rather than the situation they were in when they made those decisions. If all the remaining matches end up winning, the player starts thinking they made a mistake, even though there was no way to know for sure how those matches would end. After all, just one of the remaining matches going the wrong way would've been enough to lose the entire bet. I think the biggest mistake gamblers make is judging their decisions with hindsight. If someone decided to lock in a profit because they didn't want to take any more risks, then what happened in the remaining matches shouldn't change how they feel about that decision.
Otherwise, they'll end up regretting pretty much any outcome - either missing out on a bigger win or not cashing out when they had the chance. it's more about discipline and how you deal with risk than greed.

If you’re talking about such large amounts, then of course I’d also take an earlier, smaller win and walk away with a very good profit. But if my bet were much smaller, I’d definitely keep waiting and hoping for a bigger payout, so I think it all depends on the size of the bet. On the other hand, it also depends on how wealthy the player is and what that amount means to them. It might be a lot of money to me, but for someone else, it could just be pocket money for the day.
