Why we shouldn't laugh when a country's economy is bad.

When we were growing up, our parents used to teach us to always share our food and never laugh at people that doesn't have. But when I look at the Internet today, I see adults making fun of whole countries just because their money isn't worth much anymore. That's a wrong mentality for this generation. They make jokes about big numbers on price tags. They make funny memes about people not being able to buy bread. But this isn't funny. Why the mockery?

A country is not just a line on a map or a number on a screen. A country is made up of people with blood and flesh, it is made up of father who works until their hands hurts, it is made up of mothers who wake up early to cook, take care of the house chores and prepare the kids for school, it is made up of children who just want to play, learn, have big dreams and achieve it. When a country's economy goes bad, we should stop saying the people are lazy. It usually means the leaders made bad choices, or something had happened that nobody could stop.

The innocent citizens that are suffering didn't ask to be in such a position or situation, they didn't ask for the price to go up, they didn't ask that their savings should disappear. A little girl in a rural or poor country did not choose where she was born. A father trying to buy food items for his family did not cause the inflation.

When we make fun of a country's bad economy, we are laughing at people's sadness, especially the poor people, we are laughing at families that has less food at night, we are laughing at young person who worked hard in school but cannot find a job.

No one knows what the next day brings to your country, today your country might have lot of money, but things can really change fast.  A Storm can come, or Price can go up unexpectedly everywhere. If your house burns down, you would not want your neighbors to stand outside and laugh at you. You would want them to bring you a mattress or just say, "I am sorry for what happened to you."

It cost you nothing to be kind, if you cannot help a country fix it's money problem, the least we can do is keep our heart clean and quiet, or better still give them some words of encouragement. We should stop laughing at people who are already hurting, because under our clothes and behind our different languages, we are just human beings trying our best to live and survive, because that's why we are here on earth.

If a country's economy is bad, it is not something people should begin to jubilate because it is of no use to do that . The major source of bad economy is wrong leadership, when bad policies are made to favour the politicians or people of high class rather than the general masses. When the economy of any country is bad sometimes it doesn't affect that particular country alone, it extends to some other countries with close relationship with them. Sometimes, their could be a kind of relationship between two or more countries, it could be in terms of trade or some other raw materials, so when their is instability in any of those countries, the rest of them are affected in one way or the other. So, this is not what anyone should be happy about instead the right thing to think about is how economy will be fixed so that economic stability can be maintained.

Mass poverty is the consequence of various factors, all of which ultimately stem from greed. In reality, there are opportunities for people to change their economic status, it is a matter of choice, but greedy individuals are often better positioned to exploit such situations. Ignorance and money politics together contribute to why a nation remains trapped in poverty.

I do not laugh at poverty itself; however, when I hear people consciously state that they will vote for a leader simply because that leader pays them, that is what compels me to laugh.

Thanks for reminding us OP. Sometimes we forget about humanity, just because we have a good life, we think others are beneath us. We fail to see that there's a bigger part of the world that suffers from hunger, and I really admire those people who find ways to help especially financially to feed the hungry. Some countries have reached this point because of government corruption but we should not just keep blaming others, we should move forward and recognize the problem and find a solution.

Charities like UNICEF have made it their mission to help those in need, if there's a way we can help by donating let's do so.

But I don't see anything funny about a country having poor people or struggling economically. If there is anything that can be funny in countries like this, it is the kind of leaders they have. I don't see why, in a country where leaders are stealing public funds to buy expensive houses and cars while their country is poor and the people are poor, this is amusing.

When you see a country that has a bad economy the major cause is poor leadership structure, in most of these countries you have corrupt leaders controlling the system and all they do is take public funds and invest in other countries but nothing goes back to their own country. This causes recession and a poor condition of living for the citizens living in that country and laughing at them is pointless because that can happen in any country. I would say people that are living better than others especially in the western countries are fortunate because similar things can happen in any country. Lastly, inflation also affects a country"s economy as well, no matter how the citizens work hard to provide for theirself and family it's always going to be a struggle.

O don't think people laugh when things get this bad, we have seen these scenarios with Zimbabwe, Venezuela and the latest  to the list Ukraine now because of the war and as humans the most likely outcome is humanitarian effort to try cushion the impact.. and if it's possible a deal can be reached with the likes of IMF despite people saying these are usually bad.

It should be also mentioned that some are artificial causes because of sanctions like they tried with Russia but failed, now trying to do the same with Iran who are now getting the cushion from it's Brics partners, so not really a laughing matter..

Wealth never guarantees happiness. Happiness is not 100 percent tied to wealth. Human dignity and happiness cannot be tied to exchange rates. Those who mock this situation are unaware of this truth.

Furthermore, if the countries of those who mock this situation have acquired their wealth through past colonialism or natural resources, then who should be mocking whom?

There's no point trying to find any reason in the actions of people who are nasty like that, the best thing to do is simply ignore them because they want to see how they make people upset. You should be careful not to intertwine mockery with valid observations though. Let's take Turkiye for example, lots of people love the "strongman" leader of Erdogan even though he has made some pretty disastrous economic moves and even interfered with the independence of the central bank, which is one of the things that will cause foreign buyers to lose trust in a currency. Now people can mock the president of Turkiye and all of his bad moves, but it's not really a reflection of all citizens in that country. Unfortunately they are at his mercy because of the dictatorship he has formed. Not talking about these things just because you might hurt someones feelings is actually dangerous and people should point out wrongdoing in this situation.

No one knows what tomorrow will bring. Anyone who laughs at their fellow being shouldn't forget that the tables turn around; no given situation lasts forever. A family who barely eats today: one of their sons or daughters may be in a good-paying job tomorrow.

Those who think they are rich: their saved money can sustain them above the average shouldn't forget that sickness or misfortunes can strip them of the money they are making mouth with.

Oh dear, in an ideal world we all wish for, no country is supposed to laugh at each other due to some economic circumstances of the other but you should know that when conflict and disagreement becomes a  norm in our society, the likelihood for citizens of rival countries to rejoice over failures of the other becomes inevitable. You wouldn't expect a Ukrainian citizen to be happy if Russia economy is flourishing and vice versa. Or an Iranian citizen to be happy if US economy gets better.

There's absolutely nothing funny about this because the people that struggle in these countries are having a hard time and they are aslo humans like eveyone else. Instead of laughing you should channel your attention in talking about the bad leadership structure of the country because this is the major factor that affects most countries going through this economic problems. Even though we are from different countries we are all humans, The suffering of people in other countries should be everyone's business.

It's the people who are in such dire situation who are laughing of their own misery. They laugh of themselves when they vote for corrupt and lazy politicians. They laugh of themselves when they mock the ones who point the shit the country is, because the priority is to idolize a politician or government. The words in the OP reminded me of the US president when he is about to describe an illusion of victory over Iran. We all remember how he talks about inflation in Iran and the poor economic conditions, like saying, see, Iran, how disastrous it becomes after years of global sanctions and complete exclusion from the global market.

I am not blaming the USA for the economic disaster in Iran because Iranian leaders within the actual regime are more responsible. But the president Trump has no reason to talk about the suffer of people like it's a great victory. That speech of hate reveals how the problem in the White House is to eliminate the Iranian regime. There is nothing to be laughing off with the situation that we're all experiencing badly. Those who are in an unfortunate situation are just trying to survive.

I don't find it amusing to laugh at someone's disaster because I believe in karma, if I laugh at them then I'll be laughed off or even someone from my family in a more terrible situation.

I don't think there is anything to laugh about when a country's economy is bad. A country's economy can be bad in many ways, including geographical reasons and not being able to create enough employment opportunities for the people of that country and not forming the people as the country's assets. Moreover, the government is also responsible for the bad economic situation of a country in many ways. When the government of a country prioritizes its own interests, the economy of that country is greatly hampered and the people face the effects of this bad economy very hard. Or even people might not be so racist in real life but online they can become a 'funny' person and post racist memes all the time. World is very cruel and things are tough. I am very sad to see there are a lot of horrible jokes about economically bad countries. My country was having a bad time too, still is but actually at the same time PPP is increased a lot. People might make fun of us too but we are actually richer than most. It doesn't matter what the internet jerks are saying. Everyone should try their best for their country and humanity in general. One of the best things to do is stopping corruption. I see some news(correct me if it's wrong) that corruption is high in Africa and politicians and elites are super wealthy and people are not doing so good. That is very sad if it's true.
