AI has made human work much easier and many tasks that are difficult and time-consuming for humans are being done accurately by AI in a short time, but that does not mean that all human tasks can be done by AI. No matter what you say about football, volleyball or cricket, I think there is definitely a need for a physical referee or umpire. Yes, referees or umpires can make maximum use of AI to make decisions accurately, but it does not mean that an entire match will be conducted by AI without any human.
A few days ago, I saw a video where a robot was put on a running track and I saw that the robot was losing control while taking turns. So in terms of decisions, I think AI can be used to help but AI cannot be completely relied on.
There is no way artificial intelligence will completely role out the use of humans present from our various sport activities, is not possible. Yes, Ai can be pretty accurate in spotting out some errors made by humans. But there are also some important reasons why I think the present of a human referrees are needed to spice up the whole gaming experience. Moreover, there is nothing made by man that don't has its disadvantages, it definitely has and there is the fact. So at this point this is where human intelligence is actually needed to fill in the vacuum.

Thats not to say that referees should not be around for the final call though. Fouls in particular can be tricky, as two seemingly identical challenges could look very different based on the position or speed of players. In those situations a referee judgement can still be useful. In situations where facts are clear, like whether a ball has gone over the line or someone is offside, AI would be much better.
One other important consideration is what happens if the AI makes an error. Human referees arent perfect but at least its clear how a decision can be questioned, whereas AI wouldnt necessarily have that. Given the rise of sports betting, a wrong decision could have significant implications as it could potentially be match decisive. On balance then using AI for some aspects of refereeing but leaving others to humans seems like the best option.

Will AI need us or will we need AI? Because AI knows everything that has happened or been written in this world or things that have become a story. Although even before AI, humans used to do their work, but there was definitely a little difficulty with it because if you want to get an answer to a single question, it requires a whole search, but AI is already ready for that. Therefore, I think that humans will have to work together with AI, that too for their own benefit, because what good will we do with AI, it is made for people like us. Now, in the same way, AI is becoming more useful in Joy, it is fitting everywhere because it makes the work of humans faster and cleaner, so now more and more AI is being used.

So my questions is, if AI could reduce incorrect calls and make decision more consistent, wouldn't that make sports betting and the sports itself fairer? What you guys think?
There are constant improvement on sports officiating and one of the key element has always been the use of technology as an aid that helps in making better decisions when it comes to giving accurate verdict on a particular act. AI in sports cant work independent of humans and that is why with the introduction of goal line technology an other technology that gives accurate offside judgement, referee and the VAR still stands as a means through which some of those things are put into check for a modest balance. As long as AI and technology don't over interfere in these games and makes it boring, it addition is still a good plus to the game.

If I am not mistaken, AI are already beting used in some sports such as tennis for line calls and football for offside decisions withe the help of VAR. Right now, I realized that replacing a human referees are not completely possible. Instead, AI could work alongside them. For instance, calling a foul in basketball or other contact sports, giving penalty due to the behaviour of the player, etc. requires human judgement and AI alone won't be able to determine something like that.

Too much perfections kills the fun of sports. Hope you know that ever since they introduced VAR, the football used to be in the early 2000s is not the same today, a lot has changed. There is advantage to it, many footballers has lied and wrongs has been made but I think it's fair of you let VAR alone do the job than introduce AI. I'm telling if they allowed AI to be introduced with refree, it will take decades for many players to adjust to the style of AI. You must have seen the latest ball they did during the world cub that has a special technology inside, that alone cause havoc within the football federation but they just had to do it since world cup is a general tournament that involves many countries. If AI are introduced for referees, only few leagues will take it and I'm sure alot of people are going to over react to the decision. Okay, I surely can with you... It is not like playing football is meant for making everything perfect. VR has already revolutionized things to an extent, and with the addition of AI into it, things could become even more complicated... While I am fully aware of how technology helps in making better decisions, yet somewhere down the line we might end up losing the fun element of the game. There have always been controversial decisions, mistakes and arguments in football and that is what makes it a fun sport for us all. We do not require it to be a complete package in order to enjoy football, IMHO.

This AI thing is really getting out of hand, i don't know how you guys stay in the pro AI mood. I prefer that a human makes mistakes in good faith, rather than a machine that allows no margin for error. At this point we also add robot footballers and that's it.

If you look back into the era when there was no VAR for football matches, there were lot of wrong decisions made by referee that affected the outcome of some games and that's why human isn't perfect because we are bound to make errors. But after the new development of using VAR, it has really helped a lot to make final decisions by the referee without being biased. I have watched matches that the referee with make a wrong call and after review by VAR, he corrects himself. VAR has made football matches fairer since it was introduced in matches.
Yes, it was quite difficult back then to identify some errors; they were just playing blindly. Immediately the referee made a decision, it was final. Weather good or bad, nobody would entervene. But right now, referees can never decide something or go against any team without scrutiny, because VAR are always active and watching. So VAR has actually make things easier for us. Sometimes I feel for those leagues that are not using VAR, because referees are not always perfect.

AI have a place in sports in generally just as you have noted that they are used in VAR. With time other areas they can be deployed will be known to improve officiating and make the game fair and enjoyable. But I do not think that AI is going to replace the human referees. In other words, the final decision will always be left to the human referees, it is safer this way because it makes it easier to hold someone accountable for anu mistake.

I say no to this kind of idea. I do love how referees decide on their calls and I think we should keep the human interaction when it comes to contract sports or other types of sports. Referees are professionals too and it's the experience which they have that is the most important of all when it comes to making decision calls.
Alongside? Nah, I don't think so too. There could be conflict between the two and it can cause some problems on who will decide which will be followed.

Not even VAR has been competent ever since it was created I have no business with the infusion of AI into stuffs like this but they have to look for a way forward to make them fair and competent like long-term lasting. But AI like robots on thie pitch with humans is not something I'd completely rule out, maybe not now but in the future, we could see it experimented. It will also be beautiful to try to regulate AI so as not to see it affect and take too many jobs of humans. AI is fast and efficient but it can never give you beautiful poetry the way Peter Drury goes about it effortlessly.

Of course, no matter how much we try to change it, football was never meant to be perfect. And its imperfection make it fun, so trying to make the game 100% accurate can make people lose interest. AI can be helpful in many ways, such as assisting VAR with decisions, but it should serve as an assistant rather than take over completely. That way, the game can benefit from technology without making the fans lose interest.

Yes i can remember those eras when there is no VAR in football and also in any other related games that involves ball, those eras both referees and ast man don't give accurate recordings in terms of giving the rights decision on any offense committed by the players and in those eras, i have seen the majority of the players that used offside to score so many of their goals but in this era, it is believe and seen that VAR has taken over to make sure that anything that a referees and last man could not see beyond, at least with the assist of VAR check, it can enable referees make a right decision in field.

I've been watching local volleyball and there's a scenario where the a referee made a wrong call. It got me thinking, now that AI is everywhere, is it possible for AI to replace human referees to reduce bias and avoid questionable or wrong calls? For regular fans, it's frustrating to see a questionable calls but for most bettors, one wrong call could mean losing money.

Why asked for replacement? while they can actually work together. Also for me its not good to rely only on technology, since even how good they are working on some aspects. They are also not safe for committing mistakes. Ai have flaws to so, better not to rely on their judgement. Players or coaches can protest with those miss calls. They can review it, to overturn the results.

I really think it is some of the incorrect decision and calls that bring about decision about football that makes it interesting to watch or listen and what Var has done is taking that away from us and if more AI is added to what we have already then we might lose the game we love because it will not be interesting again to watch since the rhe game will be cut every few minutes to make s review. I notice goals now are hot being celebratedad much as they use to be because you do not know if it will be cancelled for something that had no impact on the goal happening. Human referee imperfection is the reason why the game use to be interesting most times and that is begining to leave the then we might not just enjoy the games anymore.

Of course, that would be fairer for bettors. But we might also have to examine how great the risk of mistakes that AI can make is. This is certainly not a new thing, we have already seen how sports also evolve and follow technology. The use of some devices in matches is intended to present a fair game.

Initially, as AI is being tested and gradually introduced to officiate matches, it will inevitably make mistakes. Nevertheless, I am almost certain that, over time, AI will replace human referees. This doesn’t mean that matches without an AI referee those officiated by humans will disappear entirely they will still exist, but only as a way to look back at the past and indulge in a bit of nostalgia nothing more. People, too, will simply grow accustomed to this shift over time. Another interesting aspect is that football players will no longer be able to swarm the referee the whole team rushing over, waving their arms, and shouting because an AI simply won’t be affected by any of that. I’m really looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

This is a perfectly reasonable idea, because the AI will be unbiased. Perhaps there should be some kind of commission that will confirm that this model was trained on neutral matches, without any attempt to judge anyone. And you know what else? I think we should not tell such an AI which team is which before the match. What difference does it make? This will make it like a judge for whom one team is white and the other black (like in chess), without regard to labels and names. This will make such an AI judge as fair as possible, because justice should be blind to all names. For it, there should be: Team 1 and Team 2.

There is certainly some merit to what you’re saying, but I believe AI will approach officiating a match in a more comprehensive way. It will have access to data about the competing teams, allowing it to display statistics and current standings during halftime. Furthermore, I wonder if the AI could be programmed to favor one side though, on balance, I suspect that’s unlikely. It’s also possible that organized crime syndicates might oppose the integration of AI into sports, as it wouldn’t be in their interest.

So my questions is, if AI could reduce incorrect calls and make decision more consistent, wouldn't that make sports betting and the sports itself fairer? What you guys think?
Very possible and I will also support in this kind of combination whereby we make use of both human referees and AI in making the fairness of any game or sports activities, one thing I like about AI is their quick ability to detect for something even than human, but the advantage we have over them is to make the final judgment to know whether if the condition is done intentional or has any unseen and undictated motive, that is why human can finalize on the verdict while the AI can detect for any abnormal situation that transpired.

Reducing the number of erroneous decisions with the help of AI will make sports betting more successful, as it seems, but also the fairness in sports will have to depend on how the conditions and availability of these technologies will be regulated and how competition rules will be recommended. Without proper regulation and ensuring equal access to AI tools, all these "tech solutions" can lead to new forms of inequality rather than genuine justice.
