When people say about Bitcoin the discussion often focuses on the price adoption and volatility therefore another interest area is the amount of value that goes through the Bitcoin network compared with the traditional payment network such as visa and MasterCard.
‎Some reports have claimed that Bitcoin transactions volume had surpassed the process by visa or MasterCard during certain times but before accepting such a claim we have to know what exactly is being compared.

‎Bitcion is purposely a settlement network where transactions are recorded on a public block chain visa and MasterCard on the other hand are Master and, on the other hand are payment networks that process transactions between customers merchants, banks and other financial institutions.

‎However, comparing them directly can sometimes be misleading for Nigeria this and interesting topic because digital payment is getting an important part of everyday life plenty Nigeria use bank transfers card, mobile payment and crypto currency envy for separate purpose Bitcoin also get another type of transfer value without all your mind on a traditional banking system.

‎If Bitcoin can move a big amount of the value through on a decentralized network raise an important question: how far can Bitcoin role in global payments and settlement get big in the same time Bitcoin still has problems such as transactions fees, confirmation time, scalability and users intelligence cultural payments network also have importance because they are broadly and process big numbers of everyday transactions so better than simply saying Bitcoin is simpler than visa or MasterCard I think it more useful to examine what each system is created to do and what is your thoughts can Bitcoin latter becomes a major global payment and settlement network.

If your reference for comparison is Nigeria, then I'll say NO, traditional finance is still prevalent in terms of local transactions since most people don't use Bitcoin for local transaction, they use more of stable coins or even fiat when transferring value among themselves. Most of my Bitcoin is held, I no fit use am pay person for anything now because of the price decline.

Most traditional payment platforms don't have Bitcoin payment options, but have option for cards, even as simple as purchasing a service from the play store requires your card, so Bitcoin has not yet surpassed credit card payment volume, although there's no verifiable medium to check credit card transaction volume yourself.

For global payments, Bitcoin is a better option especially as the fees have remained low over time. What is the main problem is the payment platforms accepting Bitcoin. If more institutions accepts Bitcoin payments, I believe more people would be naturally inclined to use that option, but until then, the cards see higher transaction volume from my experience

I think we need to understand something here that Bitcoin and visa or master cards are different entities that are designed to serve different purposes, so making comparisons in their transactions volume alone may not necessarily give us the full picture.
Bitcoin is a decentralised network as we all know which can make transactions without any third parties involvement, while Visa and the master cards Mainly connects customers, merchants, banks and other financial institutions to process payment. So a larger transaction volume on bitcoin will not necessarily mean that bitcoin is used for more everyday payments or purchases. Let also remember that bitcoin on chain transactions can also translate to exchange transfer, wallet movements and other activities that are not directly payment for good and services.

However, I believe that bitcoin can actually become a major global settlement network, especially for the cross border transactions or cases where people want to move value within depending on their traditional financial institutions due to personal reasons. But there are many other factors that may also not let it happen. I mean the scalability and ease of use has always been being one of the challenges for bitcoin’s used in the everyday payments, even though the second layer solution like the lighting network helped in addressing some of the issues they also have their trade off.

I think rather than asking whether bitcoin will replace visa or master cards, I think it’s better to just consider whether bitcoin can serve as an alternative settlement system while traditional payment methods continue to handle many everyday transactions

Visa and MasterCard are Master of what?

Just know that if Nigeria or any other countries have fight against US, US owns all these card companies. You can see what Starlink did to Ukraine recently by not letting Ukraine to access Starlink network which is probably an order from Trump. Expect something like that from the US because I am very sure they will block all the payment processors from Nigerians to access. If Nigeriens like, they should not have their own payment processors.

But bitcoin is not censored. It is censorship resistant.

The topic read "Bitcoin Recorded higher transactions volume than visa and MasterCard... I clicked open to come see a link or verifiable chart where it was reported but saw lines of explanations that ended up not adding any official report confirming where it was "recorded". If possible, Op point us to the direction of where the title of your topic emanated from please?

I'm not surprised to see this, because Bitcoin has always been increasing in adoption. Also, its performance has increased more than many other assets worldwide, and we're getting closer to that because Bitcoin has the potential to help everyone achieve their financial goals and runs on a decentralized network with vast opportunities that support profitability.

From my understanding, the comparison of Bitcoin to Visa or MasterCard isn't logical because while Bitcoin is responsible for providing global settlement and is uncensored, it acts as digital gold as we know and more as a reserve asset which by far differs from Visa and MasterCard which bears the responsibility of retail transactions on the go.

Bitcoin is in another league and as we currently see, it can't be used for everyday transactions without incurring heavy taxes on it, but that's what Visa and MasterCard is for.

I think I myself is really trying hard to understand the actual agenda of this thread….

When we talk about the bitcoin adoption has increased in some ways that is very correct in the global economy about 640M$ people are holding onto crypto, in total even most public companies have hold close to 194M$…

https://bitcoinethereumnews.com/bitcoin/194-public-companies-now-hold-bitcoin-as-adoption-expands/

And when we also talk about the transaction volume which is incredible increasing on a daily basis which is good but it very noisy, In 2026 this year close or $33trillion transaction in blockchain,

https://adbytes.media/blog/bitcoin-transaction-count-hits-fourth-highest-level-as-microtransactions-skew-activity-data

Payment with bitcoin  globally had also grown to some extent of higher volume for stable coin volume which crossed up to $27.4 trillion annually which is doing well….
