Firstly, I couldnt give a $hit about either Tesla or Spacex
Secondly, I see this as something resembling the analogy below:
I have two bags, one has 3 pebbles and the other has 5 pebbles, I find it difficult ti keep track
of them so I decided to buy a third bag and just empty the pebbles from the other two bage
into it......I now only gave 1 bag - yay!
Ok O know thats a very simple analogy but to me the article is about Musk juggling his assets
probably in order to make more wealth for himself primarily.
Your analogy is quite funny but hits at the core of what both companies owned by same person is actually doing.
While it's a strategic move to control more Bitcoin on balance sheet like strategy is doing, the difference is that MSTR sells their Bitcoin at some point to offset debt while these companies just accumulate and have to problem with servicing their debts, as far as I know.
It's also a good example to bigger companies that they can hold Bitcoin for long term without it affecting their business and that there's no scare that Bitcoin would crash one day as originally was the scare that I think made Tesla sold some far back a few years.
I know I tried to make it simple!
The merger isnt just about Bitcoin alone though, there are a lot of other assets etc
which are in play.

According to the report he is not directly involved in the merger decision due to a conflict of interest. However if this merger goes through it could really benefit him since he is a major shareholder in both companies, it could also help reduce costs as both companies could share resources and support each other's operations.
Probably no 'officially' but you can be damn sure if he is benefitting from this at all he
would have had some influence somewhere at some level.
There's no need for them to merge since it's owned by the same person. Although a collaboration is very likely since Tesla have launched cars that flip mid-air like what rockets have made by Space X.
Even if both companies are owned by one person, it's still more favorable for both if they merge rather than operate individually especially if both companies can be very helpful to each other. They are tech companies, the demand is high, so if they could reduce costs and speed up their plans, they could achieve their goals on time.
But let's follow the news about this possible merger.
I even think Musk might be purposefully letting those Bitcoins just sit there like assets not be "that valuable", considering the huge valuation of the companies he owns. If he wanted, he could just sell them to buy his kid a fancy mansion.
We will never know, he's been so supportive of Bitcoin and vocal the last time we've heard that Tesla holds and eventually, there's the selling off happened on 2022.
He might sell but I have a feeling he will HODL Bitcoin. And remember the
rumor that he also holds 36 billion Dogecoins, although it was never confirmed that he owns them.
Yea I would say if he has any understanding of the market
in general he would likely
HODL especially if it helps him grow his overall profits in the long term.
