Wow had no idea this was happening,,, or even that Filipinos were good at pool! Seems such a long time ago to me when I remember Chinese were hardly in the sports and now they are completely dominating.
Actually even Im a Filipino never heard this tournament off my feed on social media or been on the news channel I just heard this when I see this OP. You arent familiar with Efren Bata Reyes? He is not just a Filipino into billiards/pool game but also recognized worldwide cause of his skills on this game. He is called the Magician cause of the superb tricks he shown and done on tournaments.

I have this in my feed and happy to see that all Filipinos are going to fight until the end. There are also other participants from other countries in the beginning but, it just made the situation even better. I tried to look if bitz has got their match up but it seems they don't support billiards so, I'll just follow the progress of this tournament.

And again, if we talk about billiards or pool, we have the one and only GOAT, Efren "Bata" Reyes. That's why this sports is very popular not just in the Philippines but in Asia as well.
Bata is a legend but there's this other pool guy which is also one of us who's saying that he's not the goat but Shane Van Booeing. The guy who said it was Jose Parica. He's got his reasons and comparisons, but I don't understand why this guy is trying to pull that argument, oh I'll add that he was also a pro Filipino pool player.

Thanks for those who have replied on this thread, I can't go on one by one to answer you.

But someone already posted that Johan Chua already won the title against Anton Raga. I'm not surprised that he won as he is more experience and well rounded 9 ball player. So it's good that we've seen a local won the Roobet Philippines Open Pool Championship.

This is becoming a famous tournament for sure, as other Filipino said, we have the GOAT Efren "Bata" Reyes and that's why Matchroom was inspired to host this tournament. Although the prize money is not that big as compare to other tournaments. But still winning this is somewhat a validation that you really make it to the highest rank.

Almost all of the top rank players are in this tournament, for those who don't know. As for the 9 ball world rankings, here are the list,

https://worldnineballtour.com/rankings/

And we have a lot of potential player, including "Wonder Boy" AJ Manas. JB Sucal could be one of them too, he has a lot of potential, but he decided to go money playing tournament around the country and has flaws that he need to address.

@bhadz - Amang Parica was once the GOAT of Philippine pool as both him and Efren and Rodolfo Luat and later Django Bustamante travelled in the US in the late 70's to hustle. So for a brief moment he won tournaments and even beat Efren. But he didn't go to this full potential, same as Luat. While Efren continue to win.

Trivia: When Efren did go to the US to campaign and hustle there, he uses a monicker "Cesar Morales", so that no one will question him as his name is becoming famous already. For those who are interested you can read everything here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Efren_Reyes

Or watch Reyes famous Z-shot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6G_RnPh1yw

I know some of those names because we had a old billiard tables in Manila wherein some of this OG names used to played in the 70's to 80's. Until it closes down in 89. I was not able to see this player though as obviously I'm not born yet but I will hear stories from my Father (RIP), as he knows this player and from my uncles. That's why I fell in love with this sports.  Smiley

In any case, I will lock this  thread and thanks everyone.
