A question for everyone: what will happen when 10% of the world's population shows an interest in acquiring it?
If 10 percent of the population of the world trying to accumulate more and more bitcoins then the competition will be happened between the existing holders and the people who want to buy bitcoins because if 95 percent of supply is mined then it definitely depends on the existing holders that for how much quantity of bitcoin are they willing to sell also there are a lot of chances that it boost the price of bitcoin because it is a whole game of demand and supply and hype.

Thanks for adding the link, it's necessary to verify where that information came from. This "more than 95% of the total potential supply of Bitcoin has already been mined" I would agree with as we all know it's a fact, however, this one "only 5% of the world's population holds Bitcoin worth at least $1", I think it also needs a supporting source explaining how the research was conducted.

5% of the world population are holders? 400 million people hold Bitcoin? I'm not so good at maths but that absolutely doesn't make sense.
I'm in a fairly sophisticated country technology wise and 1 in 20 people hold Bitcoin seems a high number even for me.
Idk how accurate the 400M figure is, since I have not spent time looking into it. But I don't think you can use Bitcoin adoption in your own country to gauge the ownership rate worldwide. Demand for using and holding it is totally different from region to region. Besides, you don't need to be particularly tech savvy to own Bitcoin. For many people, BTC is mainly a financial asset or investment. They're not necessarily interested in the tech behind it. So a country's level of technological development doesn't necessarily reflect how widely Bitcoin is held there. Your experience in one country just can't represent the whole world.

This is the calculation. = [World population] 8,320,000,000 × 0.05 = 416,000,000 But still that 5% may not be accurate since it hard to estimate the total number of holders based on wallets created alone since one per could create more than one wallet.

It doesn't automatically convert to demand because it's just a theory that they're interested in acquiring bitcoin. So no money has moved and therefore, we don't conclude that it results to higher demand. But let's say that they've bought and 10% of total world's population holds it, the lesser the supply in circulation means that the more people will look at it and still translates into higher demand. The price will be higher but I think before telling these percentages, it's better to back up that with actual stats.

~snip~ There are only 50,232,294 addresses with more than $1 worth of Bitcoin. Even assuming one address per person, which is obviously false as most have at least two or three, that is 0.625% of the world population.
It just shows how much people actually care about anything decentralized, let alone decentralized currency. Centuries (or perhaps even millennia) of rule over people by lords of great titles and immense power have taken their toll. When someone says that AI will make people even less human than they once were, I say that you can hardly make a robot into a bigger robot. On the other hand, it's nice to be among the less than 1% of the world's population that has recognized Bitcoin as something unique and, above all, necessary in today's world.

If the percentage you mentioned is accurate it is still a huge number of users for Bitcoin. Isn't it obvious that when the demand for something increases its price also increases. The same goes for Bitcoin its price will increase. How much it would increase is nothing but speculation. You said yourself that only 5% of the world population holds atleast $1 worth of Bitcoin, what about those who hold atleast $5, $10, $50?
Op actually include them as well because he said "At least $1" but looks like the data itself is not accurate.

I don't think we have to think about this question. If the demand for Bitcoin is doubled, it is very obvious that the value of Bitcoin will increase, as for the price, it depends on how desperate the additional 5% of the population is for Bitcoin. It can double or quadrouple or even more. But the obvious is that the government will take this opportunity to milk the Bitcoin economy by implementing regulations to profit from Bitcoin trades.

What did you expect? There will definitely be an increase in the demand for Bitcoin, which will lead to an increase in its price, as Bitcoin has a total supply of only 21 million coins. But let’s understand what will really increase the price of Bitcoin significantly: it is the number of people who are determined to own a certain amount of Bitcoin. Even if just 10% of the population decides to own Bitcoin, the impact on its price may not be that significant if everyone is only interested in owning a very small amount. So, what will determine a significant increase in Bitcoin’s price is the level of investment from those who want to buy large amounts of Bitcoin. This is what we may witness in the market sometimes. One investor can come in and accumulate an amount of Bitcoin equivalent to what 500 people own. So, even if just 100 big investors enter the market now, the price of Bitcoin could increase significantly.

That's where the principle of demand and supply comes into play. Bitcoin is already limited in supply, scarcity with increase alot when all the bitcoin is minted and if in the future a large percentage of the world requires Bitcoin, it will drive it's price. Don't think for once that there will be no more bitcoin for you to buy. Because there will definitely be it's called circulation. Bitcoin will then continue to move from hands to hand, and this will continue to increase it's value. You might think that everyone will hold, but that's not even true. Some investors just want to invest, make profits and sell off at a higher price. They are not into holding on a long term and this is going to keep circulation intact.

Your logic is flawed, considering how many Billionaires and Governments accumulated Bitcoin in the last few years and how little Bitcoin has really grown in between the last cycle percentage wise compared to the rest of cycles.

Yep, 20 million coins have already been mined, but not all of them are available for buying. Millions of bitcoins are lost forever. And a big part of it is in the hands of long-term holders.
Anyway, if we do a little math, 10% becomes 800 million people, and I somewhere read that there are around 700 million people who are involved in crypto.
Not all of them own Bitcoin, but let's say the available supply is 17 million BTC, and we divide the coins among those 800 million people. Each will get 0.02 BTC, but this can't happen now.

I did a short quick research on this as, I’m not very accepting of the stats as it’s provided or we are made to believe on what percentage of the world owns even a fraction of Bitcoin. While it might be very difficult to determine given the nature of Bitcoin, a study from crypto.com in June of, 2026 actually puts that estimate to be about 373 million people from the world’s population and that keeps us at 4.5% if the world’s population which is actually 1 in 22 people by this estimate. It’s not a very huge number but certainly, the more people own Bitcoin, would that make it more scares or even more available…? Of course this would reflect in the market for sure.

Do you know the satoshi Bitcoin that are still held down without being touched in reserve, maybe you could consider the quantity of Bitcoin in that regard and also see how people are showing more interesting adopt Bitcoin over the time, even if we have more than 50% of the entire population with bitcoin adoption, it change nothing than to maintain it increasing value.

We don't yet have widespread adoption of Bitcoin. It's true that some wealthy people have bought a lot of Bitcoin and are holding onto it, while others are selling little by little. Also, the governments of many countries allow their citizens to buy Bitcoin, but this is far from enough. In my opinion, the reason why less than 3% of people own Bitcoin because I don't believe in that 5% figure is that there's still a lack of clarity in the laws of many countries. Until most countries legalize Bitcoin and allow banks, companies, and the population to use it without restrictions buying things with Bitcoin in their countries without converting to fiat currency, paying salaries in Bitcoin we won't see that 5% anytime soon, much less surpass it. Of course, if one day 10% of the population owns Bitcoin, then the price would be much higher than the current price.

We know that there are more than 8 billion people in the world. If Bitcoin is divided equally among these more than 8 billion people, then it will be seen that very few Bitcoins will be received because the total supply of Bitcoin here is 21 million. So imagine how popular and in demand Bitcoin will be if every person has Bitcoin. Not everyone in the world has to have Bitcoin. There will be a time when anyone who wants it will not be able to buy a Bitcoin.

They must have smoked some thing really good to reach that conclusion.BTC users can be determined to some extent by the number of generated public addresses that we could read in this topic, but "crypto" is a much broader term and definitely includes many more people than is the case with BTC. However, even if we take into account all the generated ETH, DOGE and LTC addresses that have been around for a long time and some popular alts that have been around for a few years, we are probably not even close to the number of 700 million users. I think that such numbers are the product of a kind of advertising that comes from various services for cryptocurrencies, primarily CEXs, which may be trying to create a FOMO effect. Such articles have appeared frequently in the past, the OP has probably read something like that.
