To the market woman who doesn't listen to international news or the okada rider who is busy thinking about how to make a living super el nino to them and every other misinformed nigerian is just another season of heat.

This is what we should know about El Nino the consequences and steps and how to survive it.

Super El Nino in a mad heat wave, very massive with unpredictable rainfall.

Dangers of El nino:

1. It can lead to death of humans especially among young children and aged people because they are most times incapable of taking care of themselves. So make sure they are taking enough water and provide ors for little children.

2. It can cause increase in the price of food and scarcity.

3. It can lead to high mortality of poultry birds like chickens, turkeys etc

4. It can increase terminal diseases like kidney problem and the likes because you need to stay hydrated.

How to manage El Nino in Nigeria:

1. Stay hydrated which means drink a lot of water this period. Do not wait until you are thirsty to before you take water.

2. Stay in a properly ventilated environment.

3. Check up on younger children and elderly ones ensure they are hydrated and in well ventilated environment.

How I wished there is 24hr electricity supply.  At least It would help when people put on their Fans and Ac to cool themselves during this period of extreme heat. The rich wont have issues with this , since they are always under Air conditioner everyday. The people that government should be concerned about are the poor and average citizens who doesn't have light, cant afford any means of cooling themselves. We are already battling with bad government, now a heat pandemic that could cause famine , and death. Food cost  will surge drastically. I wonder what initiatives the government are preparing to help we the citizens. Imagine people who are hustling by hawking under the sun, I am not sure they will be able to do that anymore.  This is where the usefulness  of Solar comes in, ..

Thanks for sharing this important update regarding the new global climatic condition called "Super El Nino", which is meant to be a period of extreme climatic condition on the planet. And according to report, this is said to start this October 2026, and its possible we have started experience this climatic condition, but in a moderate rate, and this "Super El Nino" kind of hand same similarities with the harmatan seaon, when the temperature is also very hot, but just that this climatic condition is said to last longer than the usual harmatan. While this is also the best time to invest in solar generations appliances, be it either car, generator or e.t.c,

It will help frankly but you all know you can not be walking on the roads and streets with fans and air conditioner in hand neither can the government install airconditioners on the streets to help cool the outside environment.

You'll need to protect yourself by not staying in an overcrowded places for long

Always drink more water as much as possible.

Wear air-penetrating clothes not thick woolly.

Do not windup park car with kids inside under the sun.

Avoid stay under the sunlight for too long.

Do your exercise routine very early in the morning when the sun is not out yet, you can reduce your activity time till the heat wave period is over.

If you no feat afford solar panel for constant electricity, go buy rechargeable fan keep for house weh you go dey use for night or day when heat done high.

Na God go help us for this country. I have come across the news on social media.
Many people thinks this  El Nino is joke due to the upcoming elections, thinking the government want to take advantage. Government needs to do something about it, doing this season the government should give 24hours electricity supply’s, the children and old people cannot take care of themselves many of them don’t listen to news .

This part about food price and poultry is true. If farmers are not careful or do not harvest well , food will become more expensive in the market.
I really appreciate you for this information. We all need to stay hydrated.

I think you are mistaking harmattan period for dry season because during harmattan season the weather is cold, windy, dusty and dry very dry. But nowadays i don't know how the climate changed especially for those of us in the southern part of Nigerian, harmattan that i grew up seeing as cold and dry season became very hot.

Well in Northern parts of Nigeria like Kaduna and Jos by November to Early February there is harmattan which comes with cold and dryness

Sorry to say but the government can't provide 24 hours electricity supply within this short period of time. It could realistically take Nigeria 10-15 years to be able have a stable 24 hours supply, that is we when to create more ways of generating power, Transmission, distribution , metering, etc.  This El Nino will affect alot of especially our farmers (mostly northern part) , they won't be able to work effectively of the heat is draining all their energy and they have no way to cool themselves. We could start having flood shortages within this period of heat and it's expected to end in February that's almost 4 good months of extreme heat. I was unable to take a walk in my street , because of the sun. This stuff came when we didn't expect it and people aren't get prepared for it. The crazy thing there is that the people that knows about this El Nino are up to 50% of our population. Most people will just think that it's normal dry/hot season.

Gratitude for sharing because I'm just hearing about this now that you posted it, and there are ways this would have been averted via the precautionary measures that you have listed which is taking lots of water and having enough ventilation in our various habitat. The government should do well to help Nigerians to fight the El Nino by providing constant light so people who couldn't afford Air conditioners and Generators will be able to have access to light in their houses in other to stay cool.

This El Nino we are talking about is going to cause alot of damages to the environment and plants not just only humans because crops will die due to lack of water and it will lead to famine in the country, I just pray it's not severe the way it has been said to be so we can survive. There are a lot of people who don't know about this and even when they are experiencing it they will think it's just mere dry season, i think the government needs to sensitize the people on it and ways to prevent themselves in other not to be affected.

Even if there is constant power supply, what about others that are doing business that does not allow them to get access to power? like those doing transportation business or the regular business woman that is just halking on the street? what about the aspect of flooding that has not yet come yet some abi most part of our nation is already flooded?

We are just a fortunate people that have not experienced key natural disaster if not with the way things are porous in the country, we would have been badly affected because there is no singular system that is capable of protecting us if such occurrence happens.

From my best of knowledge, we refer harmattan to dry season, they are one and the same thing. During the harmattan season, the weather is usually hot, dry and dusty because rain doesn't fall often. There are some places that don't experience chilling atmosphere during the harmattan season most especially cities.

Some places in Jos, Kaduna and taraba usually experiences very cold weather whether in harmattan or rainy season. The atmosphere there is usually cold and becomes very cold during the harmattan season. People who lives in those remote areas don't have any thing to worry about the El heat waves since their weather there is cold most of the time.

People doing transportation business or hawkers can find a place to cool themselves after a long haul of working under the sun. The major prevention of this El nino is to always find a way to cool yourself (by drinking enough water and finding a cool place to rest ) and having constant electrical supply will be a game changer. I don't understand what you meant by flooding.  We are already at the dry season, so there shouldn't be any fear of flood for now , except an unexpected heavy storm happens.  This is why Nigeria is a lucky country, no earth quake, no hurricane and others. Our only disaster is our bad government.  I agree with you if any natural disaster happens now,  it will cost us alot since we don't have right system in place to counter them.
