Sometimes I just dey reason say everyone believes say Bitcoin dey decentralized, and I thought of this , what if say Bitcoin is controlled by the government ? One day , We go just hear say person way guide and way dey powerful don secretly influence how it works and do it to his own test.
‎
‎Now I come dey reason three things:
‎ What if government controls Bitcoin: it will get to an extent were be say most people  might lose  some of their financial freedom they don't even know expect to lose. Now let's break down this statement for clearly understanding.
‎
‎   1.  Your Assets could be monitored   seriously : When this happens the government go really dey put eyes for all your transactions and most times if dey see say huge amount of money enters your account they might even freeze the account and identify the sender.
‎
‎2.Transactions could be restricted: The government go just wake up one morning say no body is allow to use Bitcoin for means of payments again, and when you try to ask the reasons why, they will say it now their new policy.
‎
‎3. Prices might be affected
:
‎Because of their rules and regulations,  just like fuel now in Nigeria, the price will seriously not be stable, today it will be at this range, tomorrow it rises to another level  which will really affect users.
‎
‎In conclusion

‎ Financial freedom could decrease:
‎Most people go really lose interest because of it service, Due to it lack of independence.
‎
‎Take note

‎Bitcoin is designed to gives users freedom over their assets, but if government controls it, the freedom might be limited and restricted to an extent.
What do you think?

Where all these conspiracy theories and thinking dey come from?  Grin

Bitcoin is decentralized, that’s a fact and no be say nah just mere “believe” and one powerful person “wey guide” no fit just secretly influence or change how bitcoin works.

Though it is possible to change how bitcoin works but that can only happen through consensus and if the majority agree, it can’t be some secret influence.

If you dey reason like this why you still dey, I think this thing na like FUD something you just write. The way Bitcoin is built you go no say it is not understand the control of any government that is why it is decentralized.

Decentralized is not a gimmick or acting it's a nature, and that's the nature Bitcoin was built, there would never be a time where a government will rise up and claim to be the owner of Bitcoin and then be in custody of your Bitcoin.

It is never possible for an individual to completely control Bitcoin, even if the government wants to, it will not be able to control Bitcoin because Bitcoin is decentralized.

It is not right to forget the purpose of creating Bitcoin, that a person can free himself from all the hassles of banking and can independently exchange his money without having to depend on third man, can completely independently purchase Bitcoin and keep it under his own control and maintain financial independence.

Bitcoin is completely decentralized It is never possible for the government to control it, it is not right to have such a mentality about Bitcoin. We must think realistically.

When this happens, bitcoin becomes a name of another Fiat and exactly all things that happen to fiats set in. If government begins to control bitcoin, then it will no longer be a store of value because it will experience continuous inflation until there's no where safe again.

Bitcoin as a decentralised token is the reason it's experiencing such level of trust and investment. I could have doubted the possibility of government controlling bitcoin but then I remember there's nothing very impossible for government to do. Same way they're going into exchange monitoring and possible P2P transaction taxes and charges, it will eventually happen if they wish so.

If people continue thinking in this direction, one day we will wake to see bitcoin losing its freedom and that becomes the end of decentralisation.

You dey make mistake dey treat bitcoin the same way you dey treat our own fiat because no naira our government fit control, no be bitcoin so unless say they want come talk say them don ban bitcoin for Nigeria (which won't happen) then just saying make we no dey buy and sell with bitcoin no go really do anything, after all how many people dey actually buy and sell with bitcoin for Nigeria right now.
No dey overthink this thing, no government fit wake up tomorrow come say na them dey control bitcoin, e no fit happen, restricting the use of bitcoin and maybe banning it's use completely isn't the same thing as controlling it.

What do you think?

They can not simply control Bitcoin, what government does is to control those centralized platforms (exchange, banks, institutions) that some plebs are using to invest and store their Bitcoin. ‎Anyone that prioritise self custody and privacy will not have their Bitcoin being controlled by government or any centralized platform.

The government can not restrict Bitcoin p2p transaction, but they can ask the centralized that you are using to freeze your account and deprive you on transacting.

Government cannot directly control Bitcoin, they can only fix rules which will affect individual use cases.

Scrap everything you've said, even your what if scenarios don't look possible. Why hasn't the government corrupt Bitcoin already?

Bitcoin relies on miners, nodes, Buy/Sell from those who believe in what Satoshi created. The government, whether part of it or against Bitcoin, can only impact certain areas of the market, but is incapable of breaking the protocol that keeps Bitcoin alive.

Yet another what if concerning Bitcoin, well if Bitcoin was controlled by the government it would've lots it’s credibility,  probably turn into a pump and dump cause the fixed supply would've been scraped and more Bitcoin's printed, the level of adoption would've been more poor than this due to centralisation.

Hopefully the government would never control Bitcoin in the future cause that would be the end of Bitcoin, i can't imagine a centralized form of Bitcoin, no self custody, strict government regulations and so.

OP, I like that you pointed out how bitcoin was made to give it's users freedom over their assets, in order to make this possible Satoshi made sure no one would be able to control bitcoin, not even himself so there is no way any government can control bitcoin, even being able to willingly influence the price movement is near impossible if not completely impossible for them to pull off.
The only control they can have is over CEX where bitcoin owners decide they don't trust themselves enough to hold their own coin so they give control of holding it to others. But governments being able to control or influence themselves exchanges and custodial wallets doesn't mean they can control bitcoin.

Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, but Today is a gift, That is why it is called PRESENT!!!

‎Bitcoin is designed to gives users freedom over their assets, but if government controls it, the freedom might be limited and restricted to an extent.
What do you think?

Bitcoin was originally created to give freedom to every user and to enjoy the benefits of transactions. We know that Bitcoin has a limited supply and no one can control it even if they want to, no government can take control of Bitcoin. However, since you have created such a question, if the government of any country wants to control Bitcoin, Then of course Bitcoin's popularity would decrease and its price would also decrease as its supply increased, but that would never happen. So we don't need to worry about these things because Bitcoin was never created to be controlled, rather the government cannot control it if it wants to. And we know that Bitcoin is an independent currency, by investing in it, every person can protect their privacy. And people like it more because of the limited supply of Bitcoin, and the demand for Bitcoin will increase further in the future, Bitcoin is a reliable place to invest where everyone invests independently.

Bitcoin still dey like that even though say government no dey control am but indirectly dem still dey control price movement sometimes. E get the kind comment wey government go make now e go come cause panic and people go begin sell and na so e go affect the price, dem fit still talk one positive thing about bitcoin or implement something wey go favour bitcoin and e go make people to buy bitcoin.

E just be like dat time wey US SEC been approve Spot Bitcoin ETFs, e been impact positively for the market and as US government make Bitcoin Strategic reserve asset e been also get impact for the market so na just the way wey government dey influence the market.

E get people wey dem dey call whales wey be the big investors for the industry, if dem buy huge amount of bitcoins e dey help the price to increase and when dem sell too e dey make the price to fall so na just the little ways wey dem dey take manipulate the market be that.

Bitcoin is decentralized in nature and the security of the network is by many nodes in different part of the world and mining makes it difficult for anyone to control bitcoin. Government can only control bitcoin users by forcing everyone to use a centralized service and get down every decentralized services like DEX, coinjoin service and mixers so that, they can see how you use your bitcoin and tax you.

VivaMan, Bitcoin is decentralized and you know but while communicating it's important to use tge right words for your communication to be clear and precise. This helps in growth and in general, give more consideration to the words you use. Well done.

Going by the question, what if? So we are only assuming and it’s not like it’s going to be possible or it’s true already. Everything you listed below will happen if it happens that bitcoin is being controlled by the government, as you can see the evident of it through the local currency which is in the control and regulation of the government. And that’s why bitcoin is here to save us from all that government wahala and protocols when we decide to use our own hard earned money.

I think it is not possible for bitcoin to be controlled by the government, though I see the need for your concern. Bitcoin is decentralised in nature and it can not be controlled by any individual or government. However, government can control your bitcoin  if you have then stored in a centralised exchange, they can make rules or restrict the exchange on how they operate in their country. So having your bitcoin stored in a wallets that you control the seed phrase remains the best option,  there is no other party not even the government can control your bitcoin.

If Bitcoin is used corely to its purpose, nothing will be able to stop it. Most of the transactions can't be traced or oversight, and the government will only do much of guesswork, nothing more. But the way Bitcoin is used today raised a lot of questions and fear. But for Bitcoin decentralization, I have no doubt, we should not look towards that angle, but talk about the careless usage by most people. Most transactions are handled by either custodial wallets or centralised system, tell me how the government will not gain power? But it's fair to say they gain the power indirectly, they can't attack the blockchain, ban it, kill it, so they can't attack the core mechanism, manipulate, control Bitcoin's decentralization and integrity. The loopholes created by people through the careless use of Bitcoin is the channel that gives the power. When their overzealous time comes, people will learn through survival instinct and we will resist.

Many people believed that bitcoin is 100% decentralized but it is true, nothing wey man create wey governments no fit try to influence. If government really want to control bitcoin, they fit pressure those big companies wey dey hold plenty BTC.

But for me, I believe that they can not fully control bitcoin code itself because it has it own source and thousands of developers are watching. If anyone tries to change the rule secretly the community will notice and reject it.
If one powerful person or government get too much power for bitcoin, then the whole idea of decentralized money don fail be that.

‎
‎In conclusion

‎ Financial freedom could decrease:
‎Most people go really lose interest because of it service, Due to it lack of independence.
‎

My own conclusion be say the incumbent government go use am as political tool to dey wicked oppositions both for election time. You know bitcoin na cross border digital currency, so they will close access to foreign aids using bitcoin and you can't receive nor transfer. Even for the country itself, they will restrict its usage off and on. You know say eye service too much for the country plus nepotism and favouritism. So it will be a big gag to the progress of the country financially as courts are not even independent incase someone took the bold step to sue government in power. This particular kind of thing happen during president Buhari regime when cash usage was restricted. So if it can happen to cash that frustrated masses then you can imagine if government controls bitcoin and blockchain.
