But wait a minute! Is being stingy really a problem, weakness, or is it a sign of someone who knows how to manage public funds?
Nigeria doesn’t necessarily need a leader who spends money anyhow. Nigerians need a leader who doesn't spend money unnecessarily on things that don't benefit the citizens, someone who understands the value of every naira and puts the people's welfare first.
The real question is, should a leader be judged by how much money he spends or by how responsibly he manages it?
Nigerians, let's hear your thoughts! Is being careful with public funds a weakness or a strength in leadership?

I don’t see anything wrong in any leader who is trying to be careful with how he/she spend handles public money. In a country like this where we have a lot of people who struggle to put food on d table, we need leaders who understands that government money is not their personal money to just spend anyhow. This has nothing to do with whether someone is stingy or not. If he’s stingy there’s no way he would allow his but acquire the bag which was rumored to be very expensive. Who knows he might even be the one that got that bag for his wife. What really matters is how he manages public funds.
Sometimes spending less is a good thing but most times spending on the right this is what that is really important. Everyday we complain about bad road, cost of living, insecurity and so on. We can’t keep talking about how much money a leader has saved when an ordinary Nigerian is still finding it very difficult to survive.

In a civilized society, being careful with managing public funds is sign of good leaders. Those are the kind of leaders that are fit to occupy public offices. But due to how corrupt our politicians are and how poor the citizens are, they dislike leaders with such qualities. The classes of politicians we have now, their only occupation is politics. They don’t have other jobs outside politics, so if a leader who doesn’t lavish money on them want to contest in elections, those corrupt politicians are always at the forefront to prevent him from getting to that office.
That is how I know that the FCT minister is just blabbing. Any reasonable person that listens to him will know that he is not normal.

From the records of Peter Obi over the years he has been in politics shows that he spends public funds prudently not like Nyesom Wike that lavishes money anyhow, and the most important thing that the country needs is to have a leader that can manage the resources at his disposal prudently without being wasteful and Peter Obi exhibits that character. Wike doesn't have anything that can be used against him and that the only thing I see he can use against him is by calling him stingy which is not bad from what Peter Obi has done. During the administration of Nyesom Wike as Rivers State Governor he was just donating money everywhere as if he was spending his own personal money not knowing it's a public funds that needs to be accounted for. I love Obi because he is very careful when it comes to managing public funds and those are the kind of leaders that Nigeria needs at this very critical moment who can help us manage and make use of public funds for the development of the country effectively.

At first I don't take anything that comes out from the fct minister serious. Because he has never be serious for once or take anything that doesn't profits him serious. All what he cares about is what profits him and his master Tinubu. So what were you expecting from such person. And secondly, were you expecting him to speak good of his opponent or someone that is not in his gangs of evil doer's. He is just trying to tanish the image of Peter Obi just to please his master for more benefit's.
That being said. Talking about someone who is stingy isn't qualified to be a leader? Offcourse that would be quite thoughtful and perhaps help in terms of managing the nation resources. Over the years we have experience set of bad and curupt leaders that has embezzled our nation resources which contributed in landing us where we are today. Therefore if having a stingy president in this next coming election will give us the better Nigeria we have been praying for then so be it. I know they all have their shortcomings but I hate when someone is trying to be an hypocrite.

This is a complete propaganda and a way of making the public doubt that Peter Obi is capable of leading the country, but the question we should ask ourselves is "how well has the country being under the extravagant and lavish spending president?" Tinubu has borrowed trillions of naira with nothing to account for it, putting the country in more debt and affecting the economy standard.
Peter Obi is the best option for the presidential position but I fear that it would not be a free and fair election as it has mostly being that way.

Nigerians, let's hear your thoughts! Is being careful with public funds a weakness or a strength in leadership?
The word careful there explains it all. Carefulness isn't a bad thing right? It's a good thing and must be emulated. Why do we need to waste public resources? That's one of our greatest problems in this country. We see our presidents don't take treatment here in Nigeria. They fly abroad to take care of themselves, and all these expenses on national treasury. Living flamboyant lives, spending extravagantly anytime anyday. When they finish spending, the they are at liberty to borrow again, after all, they control the Senate, they have majority there, and so it doesn't worry them. Form the previous records of the major candidates of next year's general elections, peter obi's records are speaking for itself. At this time when the economy is at doom, everything melting down, with much debts, we need someone who can handle our financial carefi, reduce expenditures and increase our productivity. We don't need gallivanting leaders.

Wike was just discrediting Peter Obi to the ruling class. The message he is sending across is that the ruling class shouldn't support Peter Obi otherwise they won't be any money to share at Abuja and regularly looting will stop. That message wasn't for the common man on the streets. What concerns the common man with Peter Obi being stingy? Our major demands from him are transparency, accountability, security and employments, the rest is up to the ruling class to debate and then decide what they want from him. Peter Obi can't be president without their supporters which is why wike was warning them that Peter is stingy and there won't be any national cakes to share under him.

Better someone is stingy than greedy. Wike is a greedy politician that wants almost everything to himself while giving those who supports him some peanuts to shut their mouth. Not being stingy leads to excessive spending even on things that are not needed so if someone is labeled as stingy, it's not a bad compliment because it shows that such a person can handle resources very well without mismanagement. Those who claims that they are not stingy has mismanaged state funds and crippled the economy of the country so it is better to have a president that is financially wise than a reckless spender all in the name of being free with money.

You made very valid points, i know that Wike’s speech was actually in context and was highly political, this politicians always know how to coin words to favor their interests, however, let’s look at it from another angle, the thing is i have seen occasions were Peter Obi made huge donations of about 10m to some nurses, i have also seen when he visited and gave certain relief materials to some victims using his own personal money, what that means is that Obi actually gives just that he prefers to give only to meaningful projects that will impact people’s life rather than throw money around that will be of no benefits to the people.

He is stingy, but that is better than thieves and squanderers who hide under pretenses. Obi's past as governor of anambra state is enough to make us know that a stingy man cannot be a problem. What baffles me about the current Nigeria is that the leader generated lots of revenue, they will not use it to do anything tangible and yet you will still hear of how Nigeria went and borrowed from world Bank or from another country, so where are all this revenue and tax government collect going to huh? It can be one person who is just leaking all this money into their own purse and after they are done there will no be any evidence to even show that money even came in.
We need someone like Obi to help us manage or money and use it for something good so we can completely avoid the issue to borrowing and seeking financial help from others.

In my many years in this country Nigerian I have never seen were a government like to be transparent and staying accountable for proper management of how the public funds are spent, and why you see after their years of service you see how EFCC invested them and all this politicians are found of doing do, but as for Peter obi you has been the only governor who was transparent and honest with what you had done for this people, you see as the election keep getting closer you see being to see headlines news of different storyline about Peter obi… Were in a normal system like other countries like you rightfully said prudence with public funds should be the basic qualification for office and a good leader with good heart should be able to account for every naira, why would some criminal who call he or her self leader see public funds as treasury or personal money or family wealth…
