Protect Your Life, Not Just Your Bitcoin.

I'm bringing this up because it seem we have neglected it or talk less about it. I have seen many threads discussing wallets, hardware/software security, seed phrase backup, private keys, and phishing attacks, which shows that we are more focused on protecting our coins. Mind you, there are other side of security we should be talking about more often as a community that we are, especially here in Nigeria.

I would like to ask, how much attention do we pay to protecting ourselves?

Imagine spending years accumulating Bitcoins, carefully protecting your seed phrase and avoiding every possible online scam, only to expose yourself because someone discovers that you own a significant amount of Bitcoin. So, what's the point of securing your Bitcoin if you neglect your personal safety?

We can never know or predict the intentions of people around us, they may appear friendly today, tomorrow they might become interested in our finances. But should we be live in fear or suspect everyone around us? I don't think so, it's best we understand the importance of discretion.

You are right. We often forget about our own security. Even though we are careful about keeping Bitcoin safe, we often discuss our holdings or how long we have been investing in Bitcoin publicly. As a result, we can easily become targets of others, which can cause us harm later. Many of us are also active on social media. We should be careful there too. I have seen many people buy large amounts of Bitcoin and publish it on social media. These things can increase the risk of physical attacks on them.

Bitcoin related issues can be discussed with people who are familiar with , who are trustworthy. But you should never talk about your holdings or investments. And if you do not feel safe, there is no need to discuss any Bitcoin related issue with anyone. Maintaining confidentiality will reduce the risk. Because if someone does not know that I know about Bitcoin, then they will not be able to suspect me.

This is actually true we talk less about this part of protecting our lives. Many of us are more concerned about the security of coins, we even go as far as investing in expensive security system to protect our coins, yet we pay little attention to our lives, our health and personal safety which is kind of ironic. I notice people who have enough money to live the best life are often the ones who fall sick or develop some health challenges, I have been wondering why is that, few days ago I heard people discussion and they mentioned rich man's sickness during their discussion so that got me, and I realize that those people who have Bitcoin and other assets in possession try really hard to secure it or protect it with everything in them, some of them work very hard to acquire more asset, but in all this huddles they neglect their own safety and health because they are more focused on acquiring more wealth and protecting the ones in their possession, forgetting that health is the main wealth they need most to be able the achieve others.

There are indeed many investors who take the necessary precautions to keep their holdings safe but I have noticed that they discuss their large amounts of Bitcoin or cryptocurrency with outsiders discuss the large amount of bitcoins or cryptocurrencies they own with outsiders, thereby becoming a target for attackers and they also buy bitcoins and publish them on social media.

Also important is the fact that users' sensitive information has been leaked from the Trezor hardware wallet and from hardware wallet maker Keystone, allowing abusers to physically attack with this information. So it is clear that if one wants to keep their Bitcoin investments safe as well as themselves in Nigeria, one should remain anonymous, as privacy will reduce the risk. At this point it is clear that even if someone has a large amount of Bitcoin, they should rather store their Bitcoin holdings safely than engage in discussions about them.

I took time to imagine all you have just said and I saw reasons with you. However, most of us here has forgotten that "who wey dey alive na dey own coin". There is no way you can gather all the coin in the world or even to enjoy it in future to come when we can't protect our life first. Just like you suggested, friends nowadays isn't trust worthy. Someone can pretend to be very friendly and caring but have another dangerous interior motive. It's good to keep your bitcoin involvement secrete and don't claim to know it all because during that process, you might leak out sensitive information about yourself. Live a humble life and don't brag about your bitcoin holdings because you don't know who's your enemy of progress that can wipe you out of the earth. The safety of every investment begins from the owner. If the investor is safe, possibly your investment can be safe too. We are all making sure that our Bitcoin investment is not tampered by keeping our wallet security details secured, well of course that is what every investor ought to do, but at the same time do not compromise your personal safety. Wrench attacks aren’t that common in Nigeria but it’s still necessary for an investor to protect his safety by keeping his investments private.

Not only in bitcoin investment but also in other investments, it is necessary that someone doesn’t expose his personal financial information to just anyone because you consider them as friends. A bad habit of humans is not being able to keep their secrets to themselves. There are very few people who can keep their secrets to themselves. I think hiding everything is also harmful, because we are not eternal in this world. So we have to take care that our hard-earned wealth does not get buried with us. We can discuss everything with a trusted person. The main question arises here, are we really able to choose a trusted person?

There are even many who keep showing off their hidden wealth in front of people to prove themselves smart or to show off their capabilities. I always try to keep my safety above all else and I try to take whatever steps are necessary for my own safety. However, we often make many mistakes unknowingly and that mistake can put us in danger and to protect ourselves from this danger, it is better to take some separate measures.

One of the things i have learned about bitcoin that I will never take for granted is it privacy, this is very important because you don't have to allow everyone to know what you do or even have an idea to your worth in cryptocurrency.

For some of us that think coming to the public to share about our assets and what we do is a way of getting fame and drawing attention to ourselves, then we had better be more careful and also look at the risk involved in doing all this because people will definitely set you as part of their target for physical assault, this is how wrench attack is more common and drawing these days because those hackers do not have to take their time any longer hacking, when the can quickly attack and you are left to no choice than to save your life in place of your Bitcoin.

This is one topic that has been discussed in this forum on different board, especially in gambling thread how this or that person was attacked because he exposes him or herself too much, but regardless of that, our safety is in our hands, and we do that by keeping shut, not by behaving like a parrot and be telling people how much we are worth and the asset we posses, that is too dangerous to our finances and to our lives, since we don't know who is who, and the heart of those around us.

For the fact that we have been hearing many incidents of wrench attacks on crypto holders is enough reason for us to keep our Bitcoin private, no need to flaunt about how much we have in public or disclosing it with everybody that is close to us. If not for the fact that we don't know tomorrow and if we become sick or incapable to communicate maybe due to accident or illness or worse dead our Bitcoin will be gone forever, we shouldn't tell anyone about it. We take utmost care to keep our wallet safe, so that our wealth does not get lost or fall into the hands of others, only we think about wealth the most. Wealth will help us properly when we are safe, if our wealth creates a risk to our life then that wealth will do more harm than good to us.

That's the whole truth. Protecting my life and not just bitcoin is very vital and compulsory for me. Because no matter how much bitcoin I build up, no digital asset is ever worth risking my physical safety or my life. And also, I didn't used to show my wallet balances or tie my online identity to my real life is also a defense line for me. And to wrap it up, true sovereignty is about myself first, because I know that I can always earn back lost wealth, but I only get one life, so I have to protect my life as well.

I believe one other point every investor needs to really understand is that privacy isn't just about concealing the amount of Bitcoin we have. Privacy also has to do with you taking precautions with the kind of information we share and who we let in our personal lives.

It makes no sense when you always like bragging about your earnings, showing off expensive lifestyle on social media or talking about your investment plans with those who don't need to know that kind of information, doing all these can attract the wrong people into your life. See the bitter truth is that not everyone around you needs to know your financial situation, even if you have nothing to hide.

Is not everyone that smiles with your actually wants you to make it in life, some cover their hatred with fake smiles. But this doesn’t mean that you have to live in fear or even trying to suspect everyone around us. All what I’m saying is about setting boundaries and also understanding that some type information is better to stay private.

With the current security situation in the country it's expected that we should live our lives in such a way as no to appear to people as though we have millions on our accounts. Every day we hear about kidnapping for Ramson, people getting robbed on Broad day light, we should live with wisdom because wisdom is profitable to  in living a peaceful Life. We should always be cautious of those around us especially the type of persons that we exposes our secrets and what we do to, because the hearts of man is desperately wicked.
