When we talk about Bitcoin security, decentralization. And self custody. We don't often consider what we are doing to be ready for a long period of an Internet outage. Normally, Bitcoin transactions need to connect with the network to be broadcasted and confirmed. People without internet access for several days may find it difficult to. Access reliable information or to manage their wallet and/or check transactions. However if a user on the Bitcoin network goes offline. That doesn't mean the Bitcoin network ceases operations other users are still connected and able to keep the network going. Users should know, however. What they can do without causing harm while they await a re establishment of connectivity. It is crucial to keep private keys safe. But it is also essential to know the methods of wallet recovery and checking transaction status. Did you ever think about what you'd do if the internet went down for a long time?

There are some ways to send Bitcoin offline, but you must do your search on which type to use based on the area you are, but I don't think you are all about making a transaction. If your Bitcoin is offline in your wallet, except your wallet has been compromised like someone has accessed it somewhere else your Bitcoin is safe.

It is not unusual to have network interruptions or glitches, and sometimes it could happen because of network issues with your area, it could also be from the site you are trying to connect. Now in such case, you cannot access your wallet at that very moment, and you have to wait patiently pending when network will be restored, then you can make your transactions. This is a situation you cannot help, except is as a result of poor network, then you can choose to move to an area of stronger network so that you can engage in your transactions with ease. Sometimes network do fail, but it is not something to panic because your Bitcoin asset is not affected in anyway.

what i'll do if the internet goes down for a long period of time is to look for alternatives like starlink, however you can still create and sign bitcoin transaction completely offline by using an air gaped device, hardware wallet or even offline software wallet like the electrum to create and sign the transaction with just your private key without connecting to the internet. since the transaction is fully signed, it will sit dormant on the offline device until you connect back to the internet before the data is sent and transaction will be confirmed.

There are some ways to send Bitcoin offline,
For all the methods I know, the person still needs a device with an internet connection before the signed transactions can be send to the network and included in a block, the transaction won't be confirmed on the blockchain until it reaches the network and included in a block. But, it's possible for the person to prepare and sign their Bitcoin transaction in an offline device and then transfer it to someone or a device with internet access which will then broadcast the transaction by sending it to the Bitcoin network.

It seems like this will be like doomsday. Right now I understand how bitcoin works and everything related to it. At this moment I can still explain to others what I know about bitcoin before the internet goes down. It's like I become a dictionary that I can pass on to others. But when the internet goes down, certainly I won't be able to monitor the market, the latest information regarding bitcoin, including wallets. So in the end, I won't be able to update information because currently the internet is my main access to verify information. Even though I use Electrum which I can use to transact offline. However, it will be useless because there are other aspects related to this issue. In the end, I will just resign myself to the situation and hope the internet can be used again. When I am offline and not doing anything, it should be safe, except if there is indeed a bug in the programming language. When online I must immediately update and transfer to a secure wallet. CMIIW

Even without internet access you can access some reliable information and you can manage your wallet without much hassle so far you have the understanding of how to do it and you have the “bitcoin knowledge”.. Though you can’t access or check live transactions on block explorers because you need the internet to do so, and you can’t broadcast your transactions without the internet connection also.

Normally, Bitcoin transactions need to connect with the network to be broadcasted and confirmed. Bitcoin transaction only require the blockchain network and not the internet before it could be broadcasted, there are two different things here, the internet operates under a central server and controlled by the government and other institutions while the blockchain technology is an independent decentralized network upon which bitcoin is built to operate. People without internet access for several days may find it difficult to. It depends on you the kind of wallet you are using, someone with a paper wallet or hardware wallet be no need to borther on all this. Access reliable information or to manage their wallet and/or check transactions.
It is very possible that we perform a transaction without the use of internet, check the internet to learn more about this or the forum as it has been discussed before. Access to information may not be that effective because if we don't have the internet, things we goes low and we may not easily get them as adequate and being enough on time.

I'd say different technologies are suitable for different generations. We can't go back to stone age and expect bitcoin to still be useful. Because during those era, their were no infrastructure to execute such technology, so it is impossible for bitcoin to exist then. Its definitely the same now, if you do not have access to the Internet then the technology won't be useful enough to you until your Internet connection is restored. There was a period @pooya87 wasn't active in the forum due to the war in Iran because their government restricted Internet access temporarily, I guess he is in the best position to answer this question.

Even with an offline service, you could still have access to your bitcoin using a connected hardware wallet with your seed phrase. The only process that would require an internet connection is broadcasting the transaction on the bitcoin network, afterwards it has to be placed in a block for its first confirmation.
There is a reason this forum was created, there should be useful information here that would provide answers to your question. Bitcoin activity can be operated offline but transactions would require online services, that should be the simplest explanation.

Spot on. Just to clarify, offline here only covers creating and signing the transaction. It doesn't mean the transaction is done and dusted. Once signed, the transaction still has to be broadcast to the Bitcoin network and relayed by nodes before it can be confirmed on chain. Without way to get it onto the network, transaction remain un confirmed , balance recorded on blockchain won't change. Bitcoin is digital asset. So electricity and internet access are essential if you wanna actually use it IRL.

With the world now mostly operating online and not just financially I think we should not be worried about losing internet access. The facts you need to know have already been mentioned in the past posts, so I would just like to assure you that the internet will remain online 99% of the time, it will only be lost if something like a world war happens.

That's only necessary if the funds are in a cold storage device (air-gapped wallet), and needs to be transferred to a device that can establish an Internet connection within a node. Moreover, there are still alternative ways to send and receive Bitcoin if your cellular network was out. It's some kind of intermediary gateway and most of them support SMS and USSD. They basically just use the LN integration to broadcast your transactions for you. But, it's possible for the person to prepare and sign their Bitcoin transaction in an offline device and then transfer it to someone or a device with internet access which will then broadcast the transaction by sending it to the Bitcoin network.
Assuming it's a regional thing, this is not feasible.

We talk a lot about taking control of our money away from banks, but we don’t always think about what happens if the power goes out and the internet stops working. I hope a war doesn't teach a bitter lesson.
It’s good to know that the network can keep running globally but being prepared on our own matters just as much. Knowing how to recover your wallet offline and finding other ways to connect, like mesh networks, radio, or satellite, should be part of the conversation around self-custody. That sounds like much preparation.

I suppose your Bitcoin knowledge stays. I'm sure they aren't stored online. If the internet is gone for a long time and not only in your locality, region, or country but the entire world, your Bitcoin wouldn't be at the top of your worries. The world would collapse to a great extent. The entire civilization right now is largely built on the internet. Have you experienced when a certain bank goes offline for hours? Or when a city office loses internet for just a while? It's chaotic. Imagine if that happens to everything everywhere. Society would go crazy. And you'd forget about your Bitcoin.

I know it, because I have encountered an internet outage as well for some reason. I wasn’t afraid at all about my Bitcoin but was unable to handle my Bitcoin and other crypto activities like trading and checking balance due to an internet outage. When the internet was back then, everything was fine. I do not have to do much if the outage affects every citizen. Because I am not a day trader, I hold most of the time, and an internet outage won’t hurt my holdings anyway. I know the Lightning Network would help to transfer your Bitcoins even during the outage, but you can’t proceed with other crypto activities. So it doesn’t make much sense to use the lighting network only during an internet outage.

Maybe he didn't intentionally mean the knowledge. Because actually no one can take that and also internet disruption won't probably wipe out the knowledge of people about Bitcoin. Also there's nothing to worry about if there's power outage, since as long as the wallet they have used is reliable. For sure it will stay there, then they can also retrieve it back once internet is back in their locality. If he want to transact offline, maybe he should search some information like this https://blog.upay.com/cryptocurrency-offline-transactions to learn on how to do it.

I agree, Interbet outage won't affect your bitcoin in any ways you don't need to be online to safe guide your bitcoin, that's not our duty, many people had never checked their wallet for years, they just buy and hold for long, checking everyday won't change anything except you're a daily trader and you want to keep eyes on the market. I serious trader will make a provision for solar energy to be able to be online always, bitcoin is very secure when no one have access yo your security codes, Op there is nothing to be scared of bitcoin investment doesn't require daily transactions check, it's a long-term plan investment, one can actually buy and never check till a certain years. It's only only a bet you have to monitor to know when you cash out.

The internet is a means to an end for Bitcoin. It has absolutely nothing to do with Bitcoin and is not required for Bitcoin. But it is the data exchange infrastructure we humans have built on this tiny blue planet over the last decades. So, currently the internet is the only viable option for using Bitcoin. But as many other posters have told you on this thread, OP, there is no reason to worry. If we really wanted to, we could find a way to use and transact Bitcoin without the internet. But that would be a massive undertaking in creating new technology.

That's right, and I think we've already discussed this once. If there is a global shutdown, then OP, you will be worried about other problems. But even though there have been cases in history where the government has intentionally turned off the Internet for the safety of their country, people have been patient, and then everything has been restored. There are a lot of wars going on in the world right now, and unfortunately, people have to live without the Internet from time to time, but we can at least try to change our lives by changing our place of residence, although of course this is a very difficult step.
