You're the one who've already spent "countless of hours", how's it so far? Speaking particularly of trading, are you in profit? The huge amount of time building, experimenting, evaluating, testing again, and so on and so forth; has it begun to pay off? Did the profit make the time and effort spent all worth it?

As for me, the serious phase has long stopped. I'm still trading until today, in small amounts, but it's not so much for the profit as for the fun. Of course, there's still that ultimate goal to grow my BTC, but trading has developed into a game more than an endeavor to make money. I've learned my lesson.

I'm still interested in Bitcoin, still experimenting, and still learning. But the longer I do this, the more I think about the real cost of the journey — not just money, but time, energy, and opportunities.

For those who've spent years trading or building things in crypto: have you ever wondered whether all the time you've invested will be worth it in the end?

Years? If you are actually doing well in trading, like deep in trading you will be active in one place and that place is X. I have checked trading discussion board, I don't think there are experienced and successful traders left on this forum. There are old threads that teach about trading and are not active, you rarely see threads where people show pnl and charts and all of that. Most of them here hold Bitcoin and it's applications, it's easier and fun than trading.

Don't force yourself on something that is not working. If after spending years on trading and this question is coming from you, it means you are not a successful trader. You should start doing DCA, it will gives you time to invest on other things than sit on your chair and staring at your charts and lose everything you have to other traders.

However, if you had used the time you spent on trading to invest in Bitcoin, you would have definitely been successful, because from the past to the present, there was enough time and opportunity to invest in Bitcoin. Those who are spending time on Bitcoin trading like you may not be able to reconcile their lives,
but those who continue to buy Bitcoin and move forward into the future will definitely find their success. Moreover, in this current situation, Bitcoin investment and long-term investment in Bitcoin are the best, which will definitely fill you with success later.

Yes, I have and at some point I even felt like quitting because of doubt that the goal I'm pursuing might not be worth it and that it's going to be a waste of time and effort seeing no light at the end of the tunnel after years of pushing for it. But I have had encouragement from friends and my experience too which toughened me up. Knowing that trading is not as easy as it seems, experiencing a great success won't be easy too but it is possible as long as one remain discipline and following a realistic plan.

There was a time I felt I hit a road block, I created a topic here and one comment which is still standing as a motivation for me till now is the one I quote below.

Quote
I've definitely had some tough losses in my time, but I think going through those struggles has made me stronger overall.  I've learned how important it is to be patient and stick to your discipline, even when things get hard.  Quitting has crossed my mind a few times, but at the end of the day I don't want to give up on my goals.

It depends what your goal is.  If your goal is only to make money, then you should be focusing on making money and then saving it in Bitcoin.  That has historically been the best way to profit with Bitcoin.  Trading has always been a way to enrich exchanges and nothing else...

If your goal is to learn and grow, then you are on the right path for sure.  Just make sure you that figure out what you're trying to get out of this experience and head down that path.
You gave the perfect response, because everything depends on his goals not on what others think is the best approach. With the look of things he seems more focused on making money from the crypto space through trading, which I believe is not the best way to succeed in the crypto space.

I think it's better he focus on accumulation of Bitcoin and holding it for the long term, rather than spending his money on training with the hope of making it through trading. Just as you said, if he's goal is to learn and grow, then he is on the right path.

I've spent a huge amount of time on crypto trading and development over the years. Countless hours experimenting with ideas, building tools, testing approaches, making mistakes, and starting over.

Sometimes I wonder whether all this time and effort will eventually pay off, or whether I've spent too much of my life trying to figure out something that may never work out the way I hope.

I'm still interested in Bitcoin, still experimenting, and still learning. But the longer I do this, the more I think about the real cost of the journey — not just money, but time, energy, and opportunities.

I tried trading and pailed pretty badly. The best advice I csn give you is DCA (dollar cost averaging) strategy - buying smaller amounts in regular intervals. That way you will buy your BTC for aproximately average cost between minimum and maximum price. Not the best solution but much better than losing all by trading.

Imagine you spent let's say the past 6 years or a decade holding Bitcoin, you would've gained more and recovered your loss overtime compared to trading. Holding Bitcoin has proven to be the best way to of making gains with Bitcoin so maybe you could reconsider buying and holding Bitcoin. I'm not discouraging you from trading but i feel if you were making gains through trading you won't be wondering if or when it would pay off but encourage people towards it.

This is true; bitcoin long-term investment brings you profit one way or another. Not quickly. Some people think crypto is a "get rich quick" method; it is not. You are not going to be rich overnight, but it is still a great way to make money and long-term, slowly, it is probably the best one.

Surely there could be some small stocks here and there that you could make money on; if you told people that Nvidia would make them rich 20 years ago, they would not even understand what you are talking about; it WAS a small stock, or Tesla looked like a loser for a long time; hell, Amazon did not make a profit for many years. So, long story short, maybe you will hit it off with a stock and be richer, but if you do not want to take that risk, bitcoin is good enough.

One thing that needs to be clarified is whether your experimental method is actually appropriate. Many people spend a long time building something, butt they fail to draw any meaningful conclusions about its progress.

Conducting experiments sounds like professional work, so ensure your approach is as professional as possible. I believe that the more money someone deals with, the more seriously they manage it.

Its important to find after spending time and money in trading that whether you can handle the wildfire of trading or not. If you are not getting success in trading then its better to switch to long term investment to avoid further loss of money. The risk factor is much less in long term investment as compared to trading this is also one prime reason why most people are opting the long term investment plan. There are very few who got profit from trading and the reason for their success is that they don't choose it to become rich overnight.

So you are trading and also building trading tools and apps, is that it?

TBH, if nothing has yielded any meaningful results you can take it that its not profitable and
the chances are you would be better off doing something COMPLETELY different.

I would imagine anything to do with trading is going to be very competitive with most people
'not making it'

Trading bitcoin is considered as a gamble by many people that's the reason why they prefer to invest in bitcoin. It is possible to spend a lot of years trading and not have any positive results from it. You failed to mention what your experience has been like so far, if you have been trading for a while your results would determine what the outcome would be. What you have to do is to be consistent and if trading doesn't work for you then it means you can do something else.

Bitcoin trading is risky and a lot of people spend months to years coming up with a strategy, this just tells you how difficult trading is.

I saw one word in the OP to tell me why you haven’t made it. Not many people get rich in crypto from trading.

Bitcoin is get rich slow technology. You need a lot of patience now but it will pay off if you’re committed to buying as regularly as possible over a long period.

Trading Bitcoin can be stressful, especially for those who rely on tools rather than their own skills and experience.

Now that you are here, why don't you begin to DCA instead of trading? Trading can keep you stuck in mental stress, and if you aren't making profits, it can lead to a more difficult situation.

DCA is the foundation, but there are also local price movements that can be captured along the way.

Now, if you think that you are smart enough, and you shouldn't have taken this much time to learn and implement your knowledge to get fruitful results, but things are still not working out, then maybe you are wasting your time and energy in the wrong place. Trading can be profitable, but that doesn't mean it is for everyone. A lot of people can't actually make much out of it despite being very smart. If you think you know a lot but still not able to get the desired results, then either your approach is wrong, or trading might not be the thing for you.

That's absolutely right.

3 part plan and if you can not follow it oh well.

1)dca and hodl pick the number $10 a week $20 a week

I dca and hodl 0.001 btc a day about 0.365 btc a year.

you have to do a dca and hodl

2)you can also buy the dip and hodl    optional if you do 1)

3) fuck around trading also optional if you do 1 or 2

but if you can not do 1) you will be a loser.

I can't say much about BTC or trading in crypto, but I think I can relate my decisions in other matters to this. I spent too much time figuring out something that could only benefit me in the long run, and that was the biggest mistake. It wasn't just that I was selfless, but that I didn't even know at that time that I shouldn't have spent too much time on it. It's the same as someone being unserious about a serious job, which no one tolerates. The thing I hate most is when people around me with unserious jobs try to be serious.

Anyway, if you are not good at trading, then hold. Don't force yourself to be someone you can't be, even if you want to. Everyone wants to be a trader and earn money, but if you think you can't, then find something else you are good at, because we are all good at something. We just don't realize it because we are good at it haha.

Trading is not something you should rush into as said and you should not depend on signals and apps that promises guaranteed profits direction those are just targeting your money, and also waste your time, stop trading if you don't really understand it and try to make some changes along the way.

You can shift your focus to holding and lucking your investments for a long period of time, you will have more relaxed mindset at that time, than the current pressure you are getting from trading.

There is nothing wrong with trading if it is done with the right approach and strategy.
The main problem that traders often experience is their failure to control emotions, even greed tends to make them erase all profits to all their capital. Trading is also profitable, but it must be done with good planning, but it is very impossible to avoid possible losses due to price fluctuations. You are right about investing, of course it can minimize more psychological burden due to monitoring market movements all the time. But in the end I have to agree that long-term investing is the best way to get a worth it return.

For those who've spent years trading or building things in crypto: have you ever wondered whether all the time you've invested will be worth it in the end?
It's worth it for me. I'm not a very active trader, I only do it occasionally when I think something will happen in the market. With my trading style, I don't spend a lot of time investing and don't waste time either. I focus more on buying slowly and selling slowly. Because holding bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency with low risk, I choose not to rush.

Since you've been trading crypto for years, I think you're in a best position to answer the question yourself. If trading hasn't been profitable, simply quit and buy and hold Bitcoin. That way you don't have to worry about losing your funds to trading, and DCA is a good way to start.

This statement alone shows that you clearly don't know where you stand with trading and you said it may not work out the way you hope and my advice I can give you In regards to that statement is for you to reduce your expectations, don't assume that getting rich from trading is going to be easy because it's difficult but it gets easier with time.

Trading isn't easy, it is going to cost you money, time and energy but the results that you get in the long run all depends on your input and also the way you trade. If you have been trading for a long time and still haven't made any positive results then it's time to reevaluate your trading strategies.

I think OP is still confused, he is at that point where he feels like he might be close to a breakthrough and quitting might make him waste his efforts but your advice is actually a fact that he needs to consider, if he hasn't gained anything so far then he needs to quit.
