      ₿ Bitcointalk Thread
Every month the community picks the best thread and the member who gave the best support on the forum.
And anyone who wants to can thank them with a bitcoin tip.

      https://bitcointalkthread.online

      Hi everyone,

we've all read a brilliantly written thread, a guide that saved our day, or a member patiently answering dozens of newbie questions… and had no easy way to say thank you beyond a merit.

That's why I built Bitcointalk Thread: a small independent site where every month we vote for the people who gave the most to the forum.

      🏆 The two categories
      • Best thread – the most useful, interesting or well-crafted topic of the month. Just paste the link: title and author are fetched automatically.
      • Best support – the member who helps others the most: answers, guides, moderation, patience with newcomers.

      🗳️ How voting works
      • 1 vote per category per month, and you can move it whenever you like.
      • You can't nominate or vote for yourself.
      • On the 1st of every month voting closes and the winners enter the Hall of fame.

✅ Account verification (no clones, no alt farms)
To vote and nominate you need to prove the forum account is really yours:

      • Sign up on the site with the same username you use here (the password is for the site only, don't reuse your forum password).
      • Enter your Bitcointalk ID (the number after u= in your profile link).
      • The site gives you a code like btt-thread-a1b2c3d4e5: put it in your profile's Personal Text, press Verify, then you can remove it.
Each Bitcointalk profile can be linked to one account only.

      ₿ Non-custodial tips
The site never touches any funds. Every verified nominee can link their own Bitcoin address (and optionally a Lightning address):
      • whoever wants to tip sees the address and a QR code and pays straight from their own wallet;
      • optionally they paste the txid and the site verifies it on-chain, so the tip shows up on the recipient's profile;
      • you don't even need an account to send a tip.

      🌍 English and Italian
The site is available in English and Italian (flags in the top right corner).

      How to join right now

      • Go to bitcointalkthread.online and read the How it works page.
      • Sign up and verify your profile.
      • Nominate your favourite thread of the month and the person who helped you the most.
      • Vote!  Smiley

This is the very first month, so the list is empty: you decide the first nominations.

All feedback is welcome: bugs, ideas for new categories, suggestions on the rules. Just reply below.

      This must be a joke.

People will leave the forum for another site and be voting for the best thread. What is the purpose of this forum?

That is completely a joke. It is not even the best topic, it is about the best thread. Probably you should be able to differentiate between topics and threads.

When a topic is posted, people will post under the topic to become a thread.

The website is not secure. However, my opinion is that, if this kind of thing should be done, it's better to have a dedicated thread for it here on the forum instead of going to your website.

The need arises to create an incentive—provided by someone—that encourages the creation of higher-quality content within the various sections. By offering a reward, users are motivated to start high-quality threads, which in turn fosters high-quality discussions and helps to repopulate the forum.
P.S. The certificate is on its way.

The idea is sound, provided it is implemented correctly and the prize amount is not so large that it invites spam, begging, or abuse. The forum could also introduce a new bridge for the winners.

However, the current implementation (and the shift to a different domain for voting) is unacceptable. If a different, trusted member were to propose this idea, it could serve as a good starting point.

Thanks for the support. There are quite a few reliable users who could take the project forward as sponsors—if anyone would like to step up, they’re more than welcome! The project itself stems from the need to repopulate the forum and bring quality content to the Italian section.
Again, if anyone is in a position to support me and sponsor this project, you’re very welcome to—let’s talk about it! Cheesy

People will leave the forum for another site and be voting for the best thread. What is the purpose of this forum?
Just going to this website isn't enough. They will need to signup there and link account with Bitcointalk profile. I don't see people bothering to do it. Yeah, I understand thatsigning up is needed to avoid cheating, but it's a bit too much to do just for leaving vote.

The need arises to create an incentive—provided by someone—that encourages the creation of higher-quality content within the various sections. By offering a reward, users are motivated to start high-quality threads, which in turn fosters high-quality discussions and helps to repopulate the forum.
What reward? You're about appearing on Hall of fame? If yes, I don't see how it encourage to create higer quality content. We have merit for it.

I was expecting criticism from the external domain, but I’m also considering implementing a thread-rating system—perhaps first rolling it out on a separate platform, and then integrating it directly into the forum—somewhat like what *ace* did, though only for individual posts.

Bitcointalk members are already incentivised to provide quality content through signature campaigns, as the better posts you write, the better paying campaign you can get into. So, I don't think your initiative will have impact on the quality of posts on the forum, especially since people have to register on another website verify their account etc.

Its simply too much hassle for it to work and I see no sense in having to visit another website to vote on something related to this one.

What reward? You're about appearing on Hall of fame? If yes, I don't see how it encourage to create higer quality content. We have merit for it.

Users themselves will do the voting and awarding of prizes; the real incentive is the cash prize, which will always be optional—a measure to prevent spam and ensure that people don’t just rush to churn out low-quality content.

Ok, cash. Maybe I'm missing something, but from where exactly you're going to take funds? As I understand we're not talking about big money, but still, sponsor would be needed for it. And I already see how difficult it would be to find sponsor for such kind of project because it's not business, more like some kind of charity.
Idea isn't bad itself, but from what I see now it's flawed.

All these ideas are only nice and interesting in theory, in practice it isn't really necessary and creates extra work for the admin. On what basis would new threads be scored, and what about posts in threads, will those be scored too?

I strongly believe in the axiom that says: "don't fix what's not broken". The merit system works well for all of these you are suggesting, until it proves insufficient, i don't think anything needs to be changed or even added.

This is quite similar to the Bitcointalk community award that's comes up so far every year.
Though that's done in the forum.

      Quote
That's why I built Bitcointalk Thread: a small independent site where every month we vote for the people who gave the most to the forum.
      Well subjective imo
There are lots of people that have helped and helps the forum in different ways
Whether in information, fixing or making the forum usage relatively easier, combating spam
      Among others.

      Quote
the member who helps others the most: answers, guides, moderation, patience with newcomers.
Bias would always creep in but that's by the way
Are these in categories or aggregated?

By offering a reward, users are motivated to start high-quality threads, which in turn fosters high-quality discussions and helps to repopulate the forum.
The reward is currently merit which will help users to rank up and also help to get a higher chance of consideration for a signature campaign if they wish to join any.. otherwise just include an address on your profile and anyone who would like to tip you for your contribution can easily cpopy the address and send some token.

That’s it ?? Are unknown alts linked to only one account before? AFAIK, all these won’t prevent your visitors and site users from voting with their alts. So definitely, you will have a rigged voting nmw, but that depends on price for being the top voted thread.

This will in no way act as an anti-farm or alt-account filter. Because if a farm has 3 or 4 accounts on Bitcointalk, they can just as well use those accounts individually to vote.
To limit the problem, you should save the IP addresses of all the profiles generated, but even that is easy to bypass with a little care.

The idea is not bad anyway, but I would do it differently, without using external sites, maybe using a browser extension and take data like red trust to exclude alt farms

That is completely a joke. It is not even the best topic, it is about the best thread. Probably you should be able to differentiate between topics and threads.
When a topic is posted, people will post under the topic to become a thread.
Let's not get started on English aye... Anyways I personally see this whole stuff as a fine initiative but I think it's pretty much gonna be abused. If multiple account farmers rig this possibly with alt accounts, how will the OP be able to straight up tell?

Instead of an external site I strongly suggest this whole stuff is conducted in a separate thread directly on the forum it makes more sense that way and actually seems more transparent first hand plus the chances of an actual abuse that way is pretty slimmer.

        • You can't nominate or vote for yourself.
This would be easily abused by gangs or account farmers, they've all it takes to place themselves at the leading position. How do you plan to combat against this?
Do you have systems in place to expose anyone who tries to cheat in the nomination and/or voting process?

        Quote
        • On the 1st of every month voting closes and the winners enter the Hall of fame.
A better approach would've been for voting to start from 1st to 8th of every month, then results announced on the 10th, so you can allow people to vote based on their experience for the past month. A definite voting window should be established to allow people limited but enough time to cast their votes.

My main interest was to gather ideas, and in fact, having this discussion immediately sparked another one—perhaps implementing a scoring system for threads—which I think is a nice idea.

Nice initiative.  I generally support anything that is built for the benefits of the bitcointalk community.

A couple things I think would make this idea better:

        - Totally public and transparent voting.  Like we have in the Bitcointalk Community Awards.  It still wont fully address manipulation and voting with alt accounts, but its the closest we can get to at this point.

        - Minimize the use of personal data.  Certain use of data is unavoidable - IP addresses, for example - but I think it would be better if you dont have the ability to link those IP addresses to known user accounts on the forum.

        - Monthly ranked lists.  Rather than selecting only one winner, I prefer to have all of the submitted entries ranked for each month (or at least the top 10).  It often turns out that the second-best is just as good, if not better than the winner.

That’s exactly the idea—to create something along those lines. It started as a way to gather ideas, but now it’s evolving into something like a script that you can "wear" [use/apply] to support the forum.

Thank you all for the interest shown; I hope to improve and create something that truly provides support for Bitcointalk.
