Has anyone here experienced the BTC/USD trade pair? Is this USD a new pair, or has it long been in existence on the Bybit platform because I never experienced it before? I was helping a friend to execute a trade, which is the BTC USDT trade, but I noticed it wasn't what we expected it to be. It wasn't clear to us till we progressed to the Bybit P2P; that was when we noticed that it wasn't a USDT pair but rather a USD, which was very difficult to trade on the P2P services. It really gave us a tough time, though, because we checked the P2P trade options, and we could not see USD but rather USDT, so we had to go back to the trading pairs to trade the USD for USDT before we could be able to get it right, and that was how we were able to trade his USDT on the P2P platform for the local fiat.
Could this be a bug or what? Because I have never had this experience before, so I had to share it here to hear from the community and see if anyone has encountered such before.

When Nigerian government has not started attacking the exchanges few years ago, you will see USDT/NGN on the exchanges which you can trade or use it to know the spot market price of naira on Bybit. But Bybit later removed it because of the naira depreciation issue the government had with the exchanges.

You will also see other pairs like GBP, EUR and few other fiat pairs on Bybit.

It is not a bug, BTC usually have different pairs in an exchange. It is you the seller that will choose the pair that you want to sell your bitcoin to. There are different issuers of stablecoins, and most of these stablecoins are paired with BTC/(different stablecoins) if the display USD and you want to trade to usdt, you will have to select usdt pair and your bitcoin will sell to the selected stablecoin.

There's a difference between BTC/USD and BTC/USDT. may seem exactly the same if you are a day trader or swing trader but closely within candle sticks of smaller time frames you can actually tell the difference. There's a small spread between USD and USDT even if USDT is pegged to USD.

NGN on the other hand is too volatile and unstable and because of our high importation in contrast to exportation valuation of the Naira actually depends too much on the dollar so it's too volatile.

I haven't really noticed USD on BYBiT, but you were proactive in swapping to USDT on time because that's what is easily acceptable to trade for local cash on that exchange. I don't know about others.

BTC/USD cannot directly be bought or sold by merchants and more because it is a derivatives contract unlike USDT which is pegged to the dollar.

I don't think so. USDT is default trade. Check the home page, the spots trades are arranged specific in USDT pairs. My guess is OP search for usd instead of USDT. There nothing wrong with USD though, it's just that you can't swap it to local NGN fiat just like he expressed his frustration.

I think the mistake was from him. He traded BTC or another coin for usd and that's not USDT or USDC that is supported in NGN p2p market. He has his balance in another coin and he was trying to sell a different coin that was why it was difficult for him until he went back and convert the USD to USDT and that was how he was able to complete the trade. I'm not sure if OP is new to p2p or this is first time seeing a USD balance.

It is you who refused to change the trade pair to BTC/USDT because you thought it's all the same. Most times we take small things for granted thinking it's all the same especially as USD can easily be seen as USDT.

It is not difficult to identify. It's just like choosing BTC/USDC and expecting to get the same result as USDT.

I was once helping a friend to run a P2P trade and realise that he had traded his bitcoin to USDC and had to go back to trade to USDT before going for the P2P. Bybit even has USDE also, So we should be careful and not take any of these little details for granted.

Not a bug, has been there since 2018 or at most 2019

USD is not the default trade pair, it's only in p2p platforms that USD used to be a default fiat currency but when you do KYC verification it will automatically switch to NGN (Nigerian Naira)

~Snip~
The reason why you people found it difficult to trade USD is because it is a fiat currency and not a cryptocurrency. Before you trade on P2P platforms you will need to convert your crypto to a stable coin but the one you guys did was like a direct trade from BTC to USD which is the reason why it didn't appear in the p2p. I haven't really seen trade pair of BTC/USD, the regular trade pair always BTC/USDT or BTC/USDC.

The exchange offers some local currency pairs with bitcoin, which helps you gauge the exchange rate and the exact value of your bitcoin when you trade that pair. USDT is a stablecoin pegged to the USD value, and that is why you should experience not much difference from the reference price that will be offered to you by either of them.

You and your friend made the wrong selection while trying to trading it. It's not a bug the pair BTC/USD is there if you search it.

I guess this is all about spot wallet and yes with that pair, you will get a USD which can't be selected under Bypit P2P . The P2P on Bybit only allows: BTC, ETH , USDT and USDC so if your assets isn't converted to any of those, you can trade it on Bybit.

This is not a big deal or a bug, but it's a new feature that Bybit has implemented since April 30, 2026. Just a few people have noticed this so far.
Check their Announcement here:
https://www.bybit.com/ed-ED/press/post/bybit-launches-usd-trading-pairs-simplifying-usd-on-ramp-for-traders-blt8cdc9184fde4695e?utm_source

https://announcements.bybit.com/en/article/exciting-news-new-usd-trading-pairs-coming-to-bybit--blt72cc4995312a1805/?utm_source

However, this shouldn't be a problem at all; what you need to do is convert BTC to USD, then USD to USDT before you trade it to fiat currency

It’s not abnormal for these trade pairs to exist. When certain exchanger services accept or offer fiat currency nominations based on jurisdiction for which their services extends, they do have these trade pairs to allow nationals and foreign nations access these trading pairs. Where it becomes an issue is, when you as an individual don’t know what to do with it afterwards. It’s a personal issue though.
Seems you the OP discovered that through some trier and error but, it’s cool you could revert and have things sorted out. More still, don’t be quick to click as, one can easily mistake USD/USDC for USDT with one quick glance, memory finger stuff.

As a Nigerian, when you select NGN as your preferred fiat currency, you can only trade BTC, ETH, USDT, and USDC against NGN, so the reason you found it difficult to trade USD against NGN is because USD is a fiat currency which you can't trade against NGN. So next time if you are trading on Bybit P2P as a Nigerian ensure you are trading with either BTC, ETH, USDT, or USDC if you want to a smooth trade.

Maybe we were too quick to click the trade bottons without properly looking at the pairs as it was the  USD I first saw which made me went ahead to trade it not knowing that such pairs exist and after much scrutiny I discovered it wasn't the usdt so  I had to transfer it back then traded it for usdt which I explained it to him after much careful look into the situation at hand. Maybe we were in a haste to trade which resulted to the confusion we had then.
