There is a famous saying in the Bitcoin world, buy the rumor, sell the news.
I think that's similar to what you stated, and actually that saying is still relevant until now, although currently due to institutional investors, the market is less volatile compared to the past few years. Still, it's good advice to remember so we don't get caught up in the hype and end up selling at a loss, after all in trading, timing is important so we cannot afford to be greedy.
Same with "buy low, sell high"; it's that simple. If some coin ends up getting super high, buying that makes no sense at all. I think the best thing we could do, at least right now, is realise when the bear markets happen and when bull markets happen. If you think that it is a bull period, then you end up doing something regarding that. Right now it is not a full market, but it is still smart to check the market for any coin you want to buy, and if you are doing it properly, then you should not be worried about it. If it is not above ATH yet and is still low, just like Bitcoin, then buying something is not a bad idea just yet. Of course, it could have been better if you bought a little earlier, but it is still better than buying even later.

This should be directed to Altcoins and memecoins since they are driven by mostly hype. When the hype dies down the coin price drops heavily since there are no demands. These kind of coin are not reliable, in the sense that holding them for a long term can be so risky. The owner of those can suddenly dump everything during the hype period. It's the early birds that do make the most profits out of these coins, the best thing is to catch these coins in early wave and sell quickly when you gotten your profits. Bitcoin is different, it doesn't care if there's hype or not, Its value is not dependent on a single person's promotion or a temporary trend. It has a strong foundation that makes people to trust it and want to invest for a long term without the fear of any sudden dump or rugpull. Over the years Bitcoin has proven to be strong through different markets cycle and still continues to attract more investors.

The truism "don't hold hot things" is perfectly intuitive for our bodies, yet in the world of investing, it is all too easily forgotten. When an asset is already the center of attention and heavily hyped, it is the right time to act—not to buy or hold, but to sell.
True, not just any piece of junk makes for a great investment. If that were the case, the investment game would be quite boring—certainly not one of the most exciting human games, as it is today.
But every excellent investment looks like junk. (Bitcoin has once again taught us this ancient lesson)
When it is only about trading, then you can say yes: when the buying pressure is high, you should avoid entering the market at a higher point, from my point of view, because if the trade reverses, you can lose your money in no time. But you need to understand that trading and holding are two different things. If I am in the same place and buying Bitcoin with the intention of long-term holding, I would not focus more on it while purchasing it because I know DCA can help me in the future to bring my average buying price to a lower level. This is my point of view on this, not any financial advice to follow. This is why I recommend DYOR! But I once heard in a video on social media here that a successful trader was saying that when everyone is selling, this is the time to buy. But this quote varies from asset to asset. Getting the point or not? DYOR!

So many asset gets huge purchase when it's at the peak and then leaves many heart broken investors crying when retracing backwards, sometimes takes another couple of months to skyrock again which may not happen.
The reason for this heartbreak is because of your title-Holding hot things.
It's better to be hunting assets when it's still cold, when the hype hadn't happened yet, when it's still a hidden gem. Once the whole industry is aware of it's sudden peak, don't buy it, just watch it retracing way too backwards and then enter to experience the next pump again, no matter how long it takes.

When an asset is already the center of attention and heavily hyped, it is the right time to act—not to buy or hold, but to sell.
Among cryptocurrencies, bitcoin is in the centre of attention which makes it the leading cryptocurrency but, it isn't base on hype as it is with altcoins. This warning or reminder as the case may be is one that should be directed to altcoins profit chasers and definitely not for bitcoiners. You can hold bitcoin for years as per your planned investment timeline and you won't get dumped on. Bitcoin unlike altcoins and tokens that are built on hype, bitcoin has utility value and with a strong ecosystem that has passed through many tests and survived. The best way to get the most results from the market is to look where the crowd isn't looking. It is to ignore chasing after hot assets that is as a result of hype and focus on what really matters when the noise has settled and that's buying assets that no one thinks ever has a future. So when an asset bears a heavily capped downside because of crowd hate, you as an investor may have just found a good value entry point that may eventually pay out well later. That's how so many persons became rich from investing in Bitcoin at the onset and made better returns than as it is today, even though there's still profit made till date and with so much crowd and evolution eating at it from every corner.

Which coins do you mean? If it is in the case of Bitcoin, then it is not right. The longer you hodl Bitcoin, the more profit you can make, which we have seen the proof. So hodl Bitcoin is the best way. However, in the case of altcoins/memecoins, it works differently, here you should take profit at the right time. It is true that in the past everyone saw Bitcoin investment as bad, but now many investors call Bitcoin as digital gold. But remember that no coin can be like Bitcoin. So you should not invest with the expectation that any currency will be like Bitcoin in the future.

I consider the second one as the "hot stuff" - because it can burn you down. I dont recommend altcoins but quite a few newbies end up buying some shitcoins now and then.
Many beginners are interested in shitcoins because, as you know, they might have a team that quickly spreads news or campaigns that fill most of the crypto groups on social media. This creates hype among shitcoin investors. They understand that not all shitcoins will generate profits, but they will try more shitcoins and believe that perhaps out of 10 shitcoins, there will be at least 1 that covers all their losses.

So are you implying right now that people should not buy bitcoin, but sell it? If that is what you mean, you are wrong. Or you mean that when bitcoin got to $126000, you expected the price to fall and which it did. But bitcoin has falling in price and it later increased to $80000. Bitcoin is consolidating and be expecting the price to later increase further.
I don't understand what the OP is implying, does it lead to Bitcoi or altcoins? Since these are on the trading board we may assume the altcoin in question. Like this,,, maybe we think he is aiming at altcoins instead of BTC. Another ancient lesson What does he mean? But every excellent investment looks like junk. (Bitcoin has once again taught us this ancient lesson)

That depend on how you hodl that hot things. If you know the way, you will not get burn on that but you can use the time to benefit.
Related to trading, you know when to trade, buy, hodl, or sell and not just buy and hodl for the coins. But you will hodl Bitcoin for long term and sell it when you think it is enough to sell.
You learn how to collect the knowledge and benefit from the investment and when releasing from your bag.

I always consider Bitcoin as a lie that later became true. In 2010, I am certain that if Bitcoin was introduced to a million people, 5 persons might hardly assent to it; thinking it's fake, but see it today. Still, Bitcoin might be good, but we should be very careful in comparing it or using it to judge other newly introduced assets. That might be the biggest mistake. I will always consider Bitcoin as a rare "introduction" in this modern era.

This is where so many people are getting it wrong, and they do end up regretting their actions. Buying any coin at its time of hype is good, so that you can also take advantage of the market to make money within short period of time, because once the hype is gone, the coin will dump and if you decide to hold, you lose money. This can be the hot thing OP can be referring to. But at the same time, some project we think cannot make will letter become successful and those who sell early will regret selling early. It is left for us to decide what to do. Taking risk is good because you can actually make money from the risk you took. Early Bitcoin investors that took the risk to trust Bitcoin when it comes have made a very good profit, they took risk to achieve it.

Since the goal of investing is long-term, everything must be approached with a "cold". This starts with using "cold money", capital that you can afford to lose and do not need for immediate expenses. Furthermore, when selecting assets for the long term, you must avoid getting caught up in mere hype. Do not choose "hype coins", especially meme projects or newly released tokens for a long-term portfolio. As these carry an extremely high level of risk. If its bitcoin, hold for long sell for profit if the need is emergency or sell to buyback at a lower level.
Actually, that’s not an issue when it comes to Bitcoin. Bitcoin is suitable and worthwhile for both short-term and long-term holding. As long as we can exercise enough patience, we can wait for it to reach our profit-taking targets. Unless, of course, we need the funds for an emergency. In such a case, we might be forced to sell some of our Bitcoin at a lower price. Which is beyond our control. Nevertheless, we should strive to hold onto our Bitcoin whenever possible. At the same time, it is essential to keep extra funds set aside for emergencies. So that we can avoid having to sell our Bitcoin at a lower price.

Everyone definitely identifies the right time to invest in Bitcoin, but it is much better to buy it regularly, but those who invest in Bitcoin for a long time and reach that point according to their plan can sell Bitcoin. I never hesitate to buy Bitcoin, but there are some investors who buy Altcoin and think of making more money with less money. I never recommend buying this altcoin because once its price drops, the possibility of its price increasing later is very low. Therefore, everyone is attracted to buying Bitcoin and buying regularly and holding it for a long time because Bitcoin investment is very attractive at the present time.

I have no doubts regarding my convictions about the Bitcoin I have invested in all this time. Neither news reports nor any sort of adages or analogies will shake my resolve—unless, perhaps, it concerns the altcoins I happen to hold. Not all "trash" is truly trash; some forms of waste can be processed into something useful for other objects or living beings. Conversely, not every investment is a gem or an asset of great value—some may well turn out to be nothing more than trash. Bitcoin remains the best among all digital investment assets.
