Can sportsbooks void a winning bet after the match is over?

I was reading through some sportsbook rules regarding "Palpable Errors" and something seems a bit unfair.

If a bettor enters the wrong stake or clicks the wrong team by mistake, customer support will simply tell you: "All bets are final once confirmed."

Yet many sportsbooks reserve the right to cancel bets even after the event has finished if they claim the odds were incorrect.

I understand if someone gets odds of 20.0 instead of 2.00. That's obviously a mistake.

But what happens when the odds are just slightly off the market — say 2.20 instead of 1.95? Different sportsbooks offer different odds all the time.

And more importantly, has anyone ever seen a bookmaker void a "palpable error" bet that ended up losing? Or does the mistake only get noticed when the player wins?

Have you ever had a settled, winning bet cancelled retroactively under this rule?

It's a very rare situation, but with the example you've given 2.20 versus 1.95 it's quite possible that a bookmaker would not bother correcting their mistake because the losses are minimal and it's not worth the potential legal trouble or bad feeling by their customers if they were to retrospectively take money back. If a bookmaker is making money from a customer almost every day, it's just bad business sense to annoy them over fairly trivial amounts. What this clause is meant to cover is massive discrepancies or major miscalculations like you describe, they absolutely would void bets if 20 was mistyped when it should have been 2. They have a slight defense and it is similar to retailers who make big pricing errors online which get abused - they then cancel orders on the basis that a customer should have known it was a pricing error which is covered by terms and even the law in many countries. The only similar experience I've had is the US election after Trumps first term where he continued to dispute losing and would not concede, which caused the bet to hang for many weeks, but eventually settled.

With such little odd difference, that is not a mistake but a odd difference from other betting site. If it is a mistake, that is the expected value bet that some bettors are looking for. If won, there is nothing the betting site can do. The odd difference from other bookies is very little and not what will affect the bookie in any way if it is a reputed bookie.

it does not fall under palpable errors, as a palpable error means an obvious mistake, so if the odds are just a little different it should not count since differences do exist, especially since not all bookies have the same odds in the market, that's why arbitrage betting exists.

However if you are a regular gambler you would notice if it's an obvious mistake or not, like if the odds are supposed to be 2x and they offer 10x, that is an obvious mistake, but if you still take it then it's not against the rules, though they should refund the bet whether it wins or loses. That's a fair casino for me.

Some are clearly mistakes as you pointed, and that king is understandable. After all, we are humans, and mistakes are inevitable. But to avoid such ugly cases coming up, gambling sites should be very careful to avoid such awful mistakes, because it doesn't make any sense that someone wins a bet, and they are refusing to pay out the exact amount won due to some unacceptable mistakes by the bookies.

I think it would be ideal of the sport book also took part of the responsibility when comes to errors like those. Instead of refunding all the money of withholding it, they should allow the gambler to keep a percentage of the money as a way to apologize with all the inconvenience.
You know, the whole point of the casino and bookie is keep people coming so they can continue to win money. The moment the bookie starts to disrespect and mistreat their bettors, it is the beginning of the end of the service.

Thankfully, it has never happened to me, but I know it is rather a fairly common occurrence on some bookies, to have one's bet cancelled because of some allegedled mistake by either the bookie or the odds provider.

In most cases they never took responsibility just because they are controlling accounts and all funds of customers; they did as they wanted in crypto. There are enough cases where they freeze accounts, and customers also face other problems due to not having central authority, which can help them get things back to normal.

I read many posts on social media about these cases, while customer bets were voided as sportsbooks were not feeling good and had losses, and they were thinking they had enough power to stop.

Now one sportsbook is already closed; they did the same to me, and I was not able to do anything because they restricted my account, and then I have to withdraw my funds without having winnings in things like these mostly fiat sportsbooks have better solutions, or once a bet is confirmed, they never void it due to having any problem.

Happened to me in some bookies that are also known in the forum.
I don't know what actual reasons why these void bets are happening when I've seen the games played properly without any problems until the end.
Although odds are usually slightly different from each bookie but I think changing that at the end is due to the demand and situation of the game if it's live.
But once bets are finally confirmed and casted, it should remain intact for how much odds we've bet for.
I have no grievance to these changes and voidance because there are also incidents that my bets should lose but they have cancelled it. In my experience, it's just fair.
