Not always. The government should be helping to foster an environment where businesses can prosper and grow, but there are plenty of countries out there where politicians are more interested in how they can enrich their close circle rather than the millions of people they should be serving. We see it more than ever that politicians are trying to foment anger and divide people, because it distracts from the real problems which can take a long time to fix. It's true there are some lazy people out there who will have a tough time and can be stuck in poverty because of their work ethic, but there are lots of people who will struggle to rise out of poverty even if they are clever or working 12 hour days. If you're in a place where life and labor is cheap then you must have something that will distinguish you, otherwise you have to accept the same suppressed wages while the company owner probably makes a lot more money from your efforts without sharing. Be careful about creating too great a generalization, plenty of people are stuck in poverty with few routes out and it's often not their fault.

Most government make it difficult for their citizens to start something. Most of this people we tag lazy lack enabling ground to thrive. If government can make grants easily accessible and ensure this grants are utilized to its maximum we won't have lazy citizens around neither will we have nations dependent on the government for survival.

Building a business from a poor background requires starting fron zero and we all know in most cases those businesses struggles to stand because of the bulk of load it carries. The government has so much role to play and it all begins with creating that enabling environment

Firstly,I am of the opinion that poverty is caused by laziness, but generalizing it that Nigeria youth are lazy and always go for latest iphone if opportunity is been given is not entirely correct , Nigerian are trying there best just like other country ,infact if you are looking for the most hardworking youth , Nigeria will be definitely be find , after school if job opportunities are not provided by government,many creat job for themselves without depending on government, the truth is that everyone is wired different,some don't really care about working hard,some girls even depends on begging men to survive,while some even work harder than men , if you are waiting for government to give you a descent job and it's not fort coming than you are considered to be the cause of your suffering, you have to help yourself before anyone else could come to help you out .

No youth in a country is lazy. The government should provide them with the right opportunities and watch as they excel in many fields.

The Nigerian youths are among the strongest and amazing people you can find on earth today. They survived the Buhari regime(8 years); they are surviving the Tinubu regime. What about police brutality? You still see them standing strong and making ends meet in a corrupt country with a bad economy. Still, on everything, the government and police force don't want to let them live a peaceful life

Thank you very much, now i know there are people reasoning in same direction with me. If i may ask, why will anyone say youths are lazy when we know their is know opportunities kept for youths to prove their worth.
The absence of opportunities stands as the only reason it looks as if youths are not hardworking, to know how willing youths are in providing for themselves and family, the government should work on the creation of job opportunities so youths will channel all their efforts towards productivity and not on trying with a zero probability of success as it is now.

You're not looking at the issues from a macro perspective, you're drawing the wrong conclusions. If the unemployment rate is %10, you can't accuse %10 of a country's population of being lazy. Undoubtedly there are things the government could do but isn't doing. If, when people are trying to get jobs, the system is based on cronyism and favoritism rather than merit, and if people who are more qualified can't find work while those with connections get the jobs, then of course you'll blame the government. They are the ones who created and perpetuate this system. As long as there is no meritocracy, people will continue to fall into depression and struggle with poverty because they can't find work.
