My Church Started Accepting Bitcoin Offering
3 Old Women Asked Me What a Wallet Is

Something interesting happened last month. My local church added a Bitcoin QR code next to the offering basket.

Pastor said Some of our youth abroad want to give, but bank charges are high.

First Sunday it was $0
Second Sunday Someone sent $5 worth
Third Sunday An old mama came to me after service, My son in Canada said he sent offering through that picture. Did God receive it?

We laughed, but it got me thinking

- The youth abroad actually prefer it. They send $10-$20 instantly, no Western Union $12 fee.

- The elders don't trust it. How will we count it on Sunday if it's in the phone?

- The treasurer now has to learn what a confirmation is.

It's been 1 month, total ∼$68 in BTC. Not much, but more than we expected.

- Has anyone seen a church, mosque, temple accepting Bitcoin as offering or tithe regularly?

 Does it work long term?
- How would you handle volatility?
If someone gives $100 in BTC on Sunday and it's $85 on Monday,
who takes the loss?

- Should the church convert instantly to fiat or keep it as church treasury? Our pastor asked me this and I didn't have a good answer.

What do you think?

This is first time that I hard of that chiurch accepts Bitcoin. It really surprised me, because I cant imagine a church acepting BTC in my country. Maybe the example that you presented will set up a trend and more churches will start accepting donations in BTC.

Also to answer your question if I would be a priest and if I received BTC donation I would just hold in on the wallet (as Iexpect for BTC price to rise), and sold it just if there is a big need for it.

I haven't but if tithing is done on this, the pastor should also be transparent on the future plans of that. Because if it's for expenses of the church, they need to sell it then to cover everything including the bills.

That's it, they'll have to sell it right away if they want to stick with the value at the current time when it was sent.

Church needs liquid funds and not investment because the interest will change from pastor, to treasurer and other staff members who take care of the funds. And that's why IMO, it should be liquid and sold to keep it in fiat or stable coins.

Most religious houses own their own form of cryptocurrency and would prefer that instead of Bitcoin. Although they might not reject Bitcoin, but they would need a knowledge of it and a wallet and also a good market value.
Bitcoin is still a currency and will be a good use for having a great name and status in the congregation.

Could you explain this in a bit more detail?  Like... where are you actually seeing this?  Are you referring to a specific religious group or an actual crypto project you came across?  Because tbvh this sounds completely made up.

Another achievement for bitcoin I guess. This is the first time I have heard bitcoin as a mass offer or donation, as majority are only accepting fiat.

Now, on the issue of volatility, I think this is the time where the priest or the accounting in charge there should also learn how to hold their coins. Bitcoin becomes more useful if they try to save and hold it longer, regardless of the volatility issue. They should spend their fiat first and when they run out of funds already, that's the time they will convert their bitcoin into cash, only when its badly needed. And depending how much they need, they can just sell a small portion of bitcoin and just hold the remaining balance.

Nah...this isn't a real story, and in fact it is AI  generated. I don't think a church will do that, if they wanted to receive money from their international members, they'd send them the address or bar code in this scenario, and not display it for offering.

Although, I do find the story funny, but it was obviously AI generated.

This is my first time to hear that a church accept Bitcoin as offering, it is not bad for church to accept it because those that send it are from outside, they can't send it through fiat at that moment or maybe they think sending it in bitcoin is the best option, i haven't heard about this before and this will also bring those who haven't know anything about bitcoin to know about, although some people will not but they can understand Bitcoin and it will clear some doubt they have been having about it. This also doesn't mean that other church or mosque should accept it, I don't think it will happen in mosque because Muslim are not that people collecting offering, they only accept what an individual bring or give and what they give is fiat, but that doesn't mean that they don't know about bitcoin.

I'm shocked as well, this is the first time I’m hearing that many religious houses have their own cryptos, and they prefer it over bitcoin. As religious as my country is, I haven’t heard or seen one religious house that own a crypto of their own. It has not been reported by news outlets, I haven’t come across it on the internet either. This is the first time, I’m hearing it. I’m equally interested to know more from @Alphakilo experience. More details information would be appreciated, because I’m seriously wondering who will reject bitcoin in place of a coin that haven’t been heard of by billions of people.
