Hello everyone,

I wanted to start a fresh thread to discuss a piece from my collection that I have spent over a decade hunting down: a 2011 1g Silver MJB Monetary Metals Bitcoin Round (Series 2), minted by Mick Bruce.

As physical crypto historians know, this specific issue completely predates all funded or redeemable coins. Released on June 28, 2011, this historic 2011 1g Silver MJB round is the absolute first physical Bitcoin-themed design ever minted. It was created and distributed BEFORE any "loaded" cryptocurrency coins even existed, completely predating the launch of:
- Casascius Coins (Mike Caldwell) – Late July 2011
- BitBills (Matt G.) – Late 2011
- Lealana Coins (Noah Luis) – 2013

This historic round is officially cataloged and featured on page 209 of Elias Ahonen's "Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins and Crypto-Currencies."

I recently sent this specimen to NGC, and it returned a stunning grade of MS-67. Looking at the global NGC census, only 20 total coins of this issue have ever been graded in history across all condition tiers. This MS-67 stands in the absolute upper echelon of those ultra-limited survivors.

Back in 2011, almost nobody knew what Bitcoin would become. Because these rounds were minted with only 1 gram of silver, countless numbers of them were simply discarded, thrown away, or lost over the last 15 years. They were treated as worthless tech novelties at the time.

But history always crowns the pioneer. In baseball cards, the Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and especially the T206 Honus Wagner card command astronomical, legendary value purely because they represent the definitive beginning. The first is always the most valuable. To me, this 2011 MJB round is the undisputed "Honus Wagner" of physical crypto collectibles—a certified survivor that shouldn't even exist.

I spent over 10 years searching the market and have only ever seen one single raw specimen change hands. I know there were threads back in 2022 and 2023 of people looking for these, but those threads have gone cold.

Since I am a Newbie on the forum, I cannot embed images directly yet, but you can view the high-resolution photos of my encapsulated NGC MS-67 specimen here:

I would love to open up a discussion with any serious collectors or crypto-historians who have insights into the current market rarity or want to talk about the Mick Bruce lineage.

This would predate your MJB coin...

I’ve got a series 1 and series 2. If the series 2 is worth $3K, what is the series 1 worth?

Mick did my 1oz rounds as well which were directly based on this design… Still have some available.

Its beautiful!!

Minerjones, I was told you were the most knowledgeable user to find here by more than one source. You sent me links to some guy who put bitcoin on a plastic card in May 2011. I thought you would be familiar with MJB Monetary metals and Mick Bruce who designed the first bit coin theme on the MJB Monetary Metals 2011 / 1 gram Silver Series one and two. My statements are accurate. No where did I say This coin was before a plastic card. The whole history regarding funding is a token, round or coin whatever you want to call it.. But what surprises me is you think the first ever coin produced with the Bitcoin symbol used all over the world is worth one gram of silver? My price is $3,000 because in nearly 10 years I was unable to find this coin. Is it worth $10, 100? I will buy all of them if you know who has them.

What you claim was first never had anything that was second because in June 2011 Mick Bruce produced the FIRST PHISCAL BITCOIN SYMBOL.  I state this coin is not funded. I state it was sold before any coins were funded. I never mention a credit card because no one cares.
Your claim of an earlier funded coin is a plastic card>>>>>>
Introduced on May 9, 2011, by a user named "llama" on the Bitcointalk forum, Bitbills looked like standard, credit card-sized plastic cards. Known as the first physical incarnation of Bitcoin, they were designed as physical bearer instruments.

Definetely pretty interesting and cool coin, a beautiful piece to have in a collection. I would agree too that for a lower amount is a "No brain purchase".
I have records of a sale (public) with a coin from 2011 and 2012 that has been gone around for 0,005 btc in February 2024 - 120 USD (that would be around 0,00225 btc each coin).
There are previous sales that have already reached 1000 USD or more?
As a collector I could understand the approach about "a potential value as unique coin" but actually it seems not recognized by the market.

December 30th 2010 was the "FIRST PHYICAL BITCOIN SYMBOL"
