  • Having a defined time-frame for your gambling sessions and not gambling when it is not conducive and ethical
I am happy that you added that it is essential to have a time frame for gambling. Just as we allocate a certain amount for gambling, we should manage our time. I see some gamblers spend so much time gambling that it could have been used for productive activities. Some unemployed people prefer to waste time at physical casinos instead of putting effort into seeking jobs. They don't know that time is also an important resource.

Quote
What about you, do you believe gambling for fun entails absence of desire to make profits?
Nobody wants to waste their money on anything. Even billionaires don't want to lose money on gambling. The reason why people gamble is to win and get some profit. But the difference between gamblers is that some have control over the amount and time they spend, while others are addicts. Secondly, some gamblers don't suffer any form of physical or emotional challenge when they lose, while another set does.

I beleive many people see gambling for fun in their own different perspective. Maybe some people see when they are winning as fun. While some dudes will easily accept any outcome without thinking twice or make any attempts of chasing their lost which I suggest should be the true definition of gamble for fun. However, it still depends on how we see gamble. If as a gambler, all what you see or consider as gambling for fun is only when you are on your winning streak, then you're not being fair to yourself. Why because you will be forced to chase lost when in bad times just to get your own kind of fun, and trust me it can expose you to a more higher lost.
Many players simply refuse to grasp that luck is cyclical, just because we get lucky once, it doesn’t mean that will keep happening indefinitely. Players often construct an ideal scenario in their minds one they cling to until the very end such as the common belief that, after a series of losing bets, things are bound to turn around if they just wait a little longer. For a long time now, I’ve viewed gambling strictly as a form of entertainment one for which I’m only willing to set aside a small, specific amount of money. I understand how the process works, and I have no desire to become yet another player who wagers everything in a desperate attempt to win back what they’ve lost.

I don’t really believe that gambling for fun means the person ain’t interested to make profit. After all, I think the major reason why most people gamble is to make profit. What really matters is how you manage both winning and losses.

When you stick to your budget, avoid chasing losses, control emotions and know when to stop then you can proudly say you’re gambling for fun. The problem start when the desire to make profits start to control you or affect your finances or other area of your life.

Gambling for fun doesn’t prevent people or gamblers from getting addicted, what prevent people from getting addicted into gambling is discipline and understanding.  You can be gambling for fun but you have no gambling limit and you have no understanding of why it is good to give a break in gambling.

It is more preferable for gamblers to gamble for fun than to gamble for profit but it is important not to be carried away to think if you gamble for fun you are free from getting addicted to gambling.  A gambler can change from gambling for to gambling for money but if one have the discipline and understand gambling whatever maybe the reason for gambling you wont get addicted to gambling.

If that gambler is saying he's doing it for fun and doesn't aim to get profits, he's not genuinely saying what he feels.
CMIIW, all gamblers are for the profit regardless of whether they gamble for fun or for profit.
But it differs when we have changed a lot when we can control and manage our emotions when we gamble.
Someone can lose entirely his bankroll in a day without thinking of revenge gambling but, can't remove the fact that he aimed to profit while he's having fun.

Gambling for fun is an addage used to describe a gambling based on responsible gambling practices that wouldn't necessarily lead the gambler into addiction or financial disaster. Such practices might include

  • Gambling with a defined budget which is what you can afford to loose
  • Having a defined time-frame for your gambling sessions and not gambling when it is not conducive and ethical
  • Neither chasing profits mindlessly or chasing your losses when your budgeted bankroll is depleted
  • Ability to control yourself while on the casino and not go beyond your budget

What about you, do you believe gambling for fun entails absence of desire to make profits?
Gambling for fun doesn't mean the absence of the desire to make money by a gambler. But rather, it means making money is not the primary reason why you walk into a casino. Because when an individual gambles for fun/entertainment, he approaches gambling with a different mindset. Knowing fully well that that gambling involves risk, and as such having a specific amount of budget which they are willing to spend that session or day. And gambling for entertainment doesn't mean if an individual happens to get lucky during the process that they won't appreciate it.

What about you, do you believe gambling for fun entails absence of desire to make profits?
Even when someone plays for entertainment purposes, he may have the wish to win or earn some money.  However there is the distinction that when one plays for entertainment he may consider the losses made during the gambling session as the price to pay for fun. But when one starts to increase his bets in order to get back his losses, it is already not an entertaining activity anymore.

If I am to be honest, gambling only becomes real fun when you are also making significant profits. It keeps our interest to stay responsible gambling and not to chase losses not just because we are in consistent profits, but also because this is what gambling looks like, fun and profitable at the same time.

But we can't deny that gambling has higher chances to make us lose than win and that's normal in a business like gambling. The reason why we have to bet on the amount we are comfortable of losing, and stay out of greed since it will only push us to acquire bigger losses in the long run.

When it comes down to it we can just make use of the word risk to reward. Sure, it's a game but that doesn’t change the fact that your money is still on the line. Best to say either using money you can afford to lose or not. When you lose as a gambler, you will often have this mindset of, if I had known ,or something similar, as a matter of fact everyone has that one thing they tell themselves when their bet goes against them. Personally the term fun is just a word that gamblers use so they can avoid facing the casino head on with no limitations. Even if there are limitations that does not change anything, as the word helps control emotions after a loss. So perhaps those who don't even see gambling as a game are no different from those who do because at the end of the day, every gambler is after the profits. That's all.....

Gambling for fun is a term used by many people here in the gambling section, but I feel most times it is misunderstood as gambling without the desire to make profits which I think it's a conflict of understanding because no one ever goes into gambling without the aim of making profits

I guess we all have different definitions of the word "fun". If I have to start observing all these in the name of "fun", I don't think it will be much fun to me.

Every gambler comes to the casino to attempt making more money and can aim at 2X, 3X or any more or less profit target. What makes it gambling for fun is your reaction when you do or don't meet your target, if you can control your emotions better and make rational decisions, then it can be called fun gambling. If your gambling activity doesn't in any way become problematic to you, affect your finances negatively, or make you less productive, it could still be gambling for fun.

What about you, do you believe gambling for fun entails absence of desire to make profits?

You're just describing a casual/responsible gambling habit: gambling without much emotion and expectations attached to it—just trying out your luck, or flexing your prediction skill and see where it lands.

What about you, do you believe gambling for fun entails absence of desire to make profits?

If you are having fun losing in gambling then that is the right definition as seeking profit might not make you happy. lol

Seriously, who would gamble without aiming for profit, that profit for me is the definition of fun.
Hahahah this is just so hilarious. In other words, it's same as saying, um..."I'm gambling for profit" hahaha. Although, I like your straightforwardness.

I am 100% in on gambling for fun, I talked about it alot on this forum and here is the catch...

My own meaning of gambling for fun is using $2 to have all the fun I want and if I win like $20 I still make something, I am not the one that used $200 to gamble hoping to wil $20,000, I don't do it.

We all love money but I find my own money elsewhere, I prefer sweating to get the money than playing the lottery, if I want to do anything that's close to lottery it will be me trying to solve atleast 1 Bitcoin block.

As you can see, using my $2 is an act of buying a ticket at the cinema to have the great time, it doesn't mean if I win something I will turn my back on it, this is the max I can go.
So...um if you actually do enjoy the activity that much, why assign just $2 to it? You know golf is a very expensive game right? But you see a whole lot of people spending a lot of money just to play it, moving around a big field, hitting the ball, smoking and making jokes just for the fun of it. That's what fun is, you spend your time, money, energy, and resources doing it because it's fun. Not just $2 and say it's "fun".

I'm very sure that quote shouldn't be misunderstood anymore. Even if it is, the idea remains the same..it's an emotional reminder to help us avoid getting carried away by the money involved in gambling. The main reason many of us gamble is to make some money from our prediction skills, but we try not to make that the main focus. The moment you accept that gambling isn't a means of getting rich but a form of entertainment, it becomes much easier to accept the losses that come along the way. As long as you never risk more than you can afford to lose, you can enjoy it without putting yourself under unnecessary financial pressure.
This is much more logical, because I still can't wrap my head around the idea of fun in gambling—especially when you're just losing money constantly. The only time I think gambling can be fun—I've found myself in such situation—is when you're winning.

I remember how we use to bet while playing street football. At that point, we're no longer playing for fun—even when football itself is so much a fun game—we're now playing for the money. We're now being aggressive, and very serious; you go home all sore and reminiscing on what you could've have done better, and at the same time, even after losing, anticipating for the next time we'll gamble again.

The gambling added more seriousness to what is already fun. The gambling itself isn't fun—especially if you lost—but it will always bring us back to keep gambling. If you lose, you'll want to come back to recover; if you win, you'll want to come back to keep winning. And it's so addictive because it's all within your strength.

A lot of people claim to gamble for fun but they actually have interest in making profit, one thing that they fail to realize is that there's actually nothing wrong in gambling to make profit as long as you are gambling responsibly then there's nothing wrong in gambling to make profit. Gambling for fun doesn't automatically mean that you are not gambling reasonably, it all depends on how you run your gambling activities. It is possible to be entertained and also be interested in making profit as well.

I think I have seen many thread about gambling for fun, it's still going to be similar to the one you created and this is what I expected from this thread, some people would not agree that you can gamble for fun they are the business minded people and they see them staking as an investment made and there are those who don't see their staking as anything they just see it as the price they pay for the fun they are about to get, both have their reasons for gambling for fun or gambling for business purposes.

Gambling should be done with the expectation of unexpected outcomes, because if you are chasing the winning, meaning the money to be won, you may have to bet an amount that is higher than expected. After all, at that point you have your profit in mind as a target.

Gambling for fun is all about gambling with the amount that you can lose or win and not feel bored with the outcome of your games, be it losses or wins.

The two things you just mentioned about one gambling for fun and the other gambling for business. They are not that seperate as you have pointed out. See, some people if you agree with me, can gamble and expect to win money even though he or she has tagged this bet to be fun. There is a conscious behaviour towards the bet placed to win money back. Same as someone who just want money from the start. They point it out plainly and yet still engage in whatever fun the sport game has to offer. So, they are not that seperate like that.

The desire to make profit in gambling is always part of what we say "gamble for fun". However, to truly incorporate those saying to your gambling sessions, one must allow himself to establish a threshold on how much, how long, and how frequent you should be doing it. Going beyond the threshold could become a habit, and lossing could become more serious, that it could start creating problem financially, and that is not fun anymore.

It is not the desire of gambling without making profit, it should be for gamblers with low expectations in any game they play and should be a gambler who doesn’t gamble regularly but occasionally if maybe weekends when the have free time, they will decide to have fun by using their gambling skills to play a bet with either his friends and have fun. They are also willing to make profit, but there is no respiration in their actions and the know the risks involved and also take responsibility of anything that will happen.
Unlike regular gamblers who gamble every day to make money, the regular gamblers use almost all the have, thinking they can make money from gambling until they get addicted and blame themselves after the damage is done.

This is wrong,
People still gamble for fun, I can use myself as an example I gamble every weekend not because I want some extra money but there is a dopamine release when I bet on my team for a win, sometimes I use significant amount of money just because of hard I love the team, and appart or this context or loving ones team, there are so many other resons individuals gambling other than money.

CMIIW, all gamblers are for the profit regardless of whether they gamble for fun or for profit.

I don’t think having desire for profit is problem. But if you make profit your primary motivation, that’s a problem. It is natural that gamblers would want to win when they go to any casino. But that does not mean that primary objective of every gambler is to earn money.

When I sat down to play poker with my friends. Then naturally I'll want to win the pot. But for me, spending time with friends, using strategy and enjoying game are also important.

On the other hand, some of my friends might view gambling as regular source of income. So both of us want to make profit, but our motivation are not same.

I believe that those that gamble for fun don't see gambling as a source of income and their aim of gambling isn't to make profit. They are gambling just to have fun and that's the reason why they won't feel disappointed or to chase after loses whenever they happen to encounter a loss. If someone is gambling to make profit their reaction during a loss will be quite different from someone that is gambling for fun. Also those who is gambling to make profit may often not be able to stake with what they can afford to lose and the chances of trying to recover what they have lost is always there. Therefore those that gamble for fun see gambling as means of entertainment and not a place to make money.

Gambling for fun simply means that you shouldn't see gambling as a means of income or put all your hope on gambling. It's another way to let you know that gambling can make you run at a big loss if your sole purpose of gambling is for profits. Even if I'm gambling for fun, it doesn't mean that I wouldn't make my research and analysis before placing my bet. Profits make it more fun because nobody wants to be a loser.
Fun means it should be done and happiness should be derived from it, and it should also be an activity that's done when someone is free and not something that makes the person lose themselves in that game, before we now talk about responsible gambling and how not to allow ourselves to spend too much while trying to chase a life changing profit that might never come.
