We all know what's happening in the country at the moment, politicians are stealing public funds and the money that are being generated by most of the natural resources that are being exported to other countries. Before dangote's refinery Started working quite well Nigeria kept on producing crude oil and then expecting America and other countries to refine it, this was actually disappointing. Nigeria has a syndrome of putting what they have into the hands of their slave masters, with such a mentality they are always going to be below other foreign countries.

We have refeneries that need serious repairs and the cost of fixing them are peanuts to the government but they don't want it fixed because their means of making money would be affected. The reason why we have vast minerals resources and are still poor is because black man doesn't have the capacity to rule and manage resources.  South Africa for example, when the white was  ruling, south Africa was developed. There were jobs, security and businesses thrive but when the white left and Nelson Mandela became president.  After Mandela tenure ended, when the next president came into power, south Africa went bad, everything the white built has crumble to the ground. The problem with Nigeria is the Africa mentality and greed for power.

There's a need to change that leader to uplift the Nigerians with how they're being seen from before and to the new generation. With these corrupt politicians, Nigeria and other countries that have them will not make its people prosper. They'll take the money, the fame and the power and that's a cycle that's hard to beat. But if there will be some aspiring young leaders who have genuine love for the people, they'll uplift the spirits of the people and show what they deserve and it' Nigeria for its people, and not for the oligarchs, corrupt politicians and countries that always take advantage of its natural resources.

When a country has abundant crude oil resources, economic therapy and the people are still in poverty, it is called the "natural resource curse." Such a situation is very ironic, the curse was created by themselves.
one Thing that I have always believed is the words of the the greatest philosopher "those that makes worse use of their time, are the first people to complain of it's gravity" Alexander the great.

The leadership of the country Nigeria have no interest of the country at heart. All they believe is to go to another man's country and develop there, abandoning there own country.

We as Nigerians we have crude oil but our country is still poor and going backward on a daily. And the question is, is it suppose to be so as an oil producing country, states, LGA's and communities?

When you travel and log in to our local communities in the villages as SPDC Shell host communities that has now been taking over by Renaissance, you see that there's nothing to write home about.

The local content agreement has it that they will bring development to the Shell host communities, things like,
1. Electricity.
2. Good roads.
3. Scholarships.
4. Borehole's water.
5. Youths empowerments.
6. Employment in their companies.
7. Monthly stipends for old men/women
etc

But none of these is being carried out.
Apart from Total E&P I don’t think I’ve seen any other oil companies in Nigeria whose exploration has been that beneficial to its host areas or communities. I think part of the problem is from the leaders or those who are actually representing the host communities in those oil companies. I wouldn’t be surprised to know that the people representing those host communities are actually the ones embezzling the funds meant to provide the communities with Electricity, Good roads, Scholarships and all of that. Instead of allowing the companies to carry out all this community developmental projects they prefer to convert it to cash so they will share it among themselves. What a greedy set of individuals we have in our nation and communities.

At some point too I blame the company for giving those people representing the host communities so much trust, am saying this because if those companies can give out such projects or such huge amount of money, they are meant to ensure that the project or the money they gave out was actually used for the purpose of which it was given for, to make my point clearer what am saying is that companies should supervised those projects on their own and if things are not the way it is supposed to be they take the appropriate action, this should be there concern for things to be better and for the common man in those host communities, people are suffering even when they have what could have better their life from nature.

They're still exporting refine fuel from Brazil and other countries because dangote sell at a very high price than than then ones they bought from Brazil,  Nigeria is in a wrong hand, nothing is working and the rate of poverty is very high because of poor management by our leaders, Nigeria is very rich in mineral resources yet poor is the other of the day,  a country can have oil and still be poor,  some can have little and still be rich, depending on quality of leaders.until Nigeria have leaders that have passion for this country nothing will change , we lack quality leaders in Nigeria, we have four refineries and none is working that's sad reality.

There, ask around. I don't think there is an oil company in Nigeria that doesn't host scholarships, this is done everywhere and host companies are given priorities before outsiders are given by merits. These companies provide internships and host company's comes before outsider which are later given by merits. If it comes to job opportunities, the host companies with the require certificates are given priority before outside, sometimes outsiders don't have them.

There is many things that are done but until you ask questions. Sometimes, the problem is not these companies that are not doing the job. It's the same host communities that are representing that are not doing a well job for people to benefit.

That is one of the great mistakes that Nigerians make, even Dangote Refinery reduced fuel price for citizens because of taxes. African eaders are the greatest enemies of development in many African nations today. The reason is that they have the power to make good decisions that will improve the economy and development of their nation but instead they choose to be loyal and sell out their natural resources to foreign leaders for their own personal gain.

There are some African countries that have recently cut off many of their ties with such foreigners and I see a better future for them because of that decision. So if African countries can elect good leaders, we will be the richest and most powerful continent in the world.

It isn't about what you have but what you can do with that which you have that makes you stand out and achieve your propose in life and that's what Nigeria is lacking as a whole. We aren't the only ones having this issue of "we have crude oil but are still struggling" countries like Venezuela is in this mess too. Other African countries are also includes so it isn't just a Nigerian problem but a problem of not knowing how to manage the natural resource that has been given to you by nature.

When we allowed our Oli to be extracted then asked for peanut's in reture, what were we expecting to happen? instead of asking for infrastructure to be built, refinery and factors, we asked for food and monthly stipends which shows how uneducated we were and that's affecting us to this Day.

We have to grow as a county and invest into building structures that'll eradicate peoverty from the country through creating if job opportunity as we have the capacity to do that as a country with crude oil but bad govenwmmt won't allow that happen as they're benefitting from our suffering.
I was reading some newspapers, and I saw the incumbent president promising the people of a state so many things as he campaigns for a second tenure. The stadium was filled with poor people who were given peanuts to come. Different support groups sponsored by several politicians were there because of amounts that were less than $3.

The reason I raised this issue is that you mentioned that Africans are uneducated. The worst form of illiteracy is the inability to reason. People go to political campaigns because they are given peanuts by people who steal billions of dollars from them. We should be on the street protesting against these thieves who have conspired with their external partners to deprive us of basic amenities instead of supporting them.

You also mentioned Venezuela. Those who promised to make the country heaven on earth if Nicolás Maduro was removed are now in charge. But we all know that the condition of the country will not change because it was well-suited thieves who took over.

Yes, I agree, because some dishonest types of leaders are addicted to their followers, they sink to their lowest level. They care only about their own share of the profits; they couldn't care less about who stands to lose or gain as a result. It is precisely because of these factors that people fail to achieve success.

Its unfortunate seeing the way poor masses in Nigeria  suffering when the country is blessed richly with various kinds of mineral resources which other nations are praying to have. Nigeria is one of the country that exports mineral resources to get in return refined products when they have three different refineries established for the refining of those resources but because they placed their greedy mindset over everything they choose not to rehabilitate them and spend all in products importation where they know what to get at last while citizens suffer of hardship.
This constant stealing by Nigerian politicians is really a problem and the main reason Nigeria remains among  the poorest countries in the world.

The subject of this topic is just like my country where my country is full of natural gas but my country is facing gas crisis. Just like the title of the topic is why that country will remain poor despite having sufficient amount of crude oil. It is not enough to have only natural gas or crude oil, there should be sufficient electricity for that oil refinery, good roads and government support.
From what you said, the country is quite obvious and it's quite sad that such a country goes through that even with the amount of natural resources that they have. Having crude oil should give them an advantage when it comes to having electricity and other benefits but it turns out that they are the ones that end up having nothing and this is just due to corruption.

Quote
The development of a country does not only depend on natural gas or natural resources but also depends a lot on some geographical location of that country, good developed roads and even manpower.
Relying too much on a particular resource is one of the reasons why a particular country's growth is stunted, if they can take advantage of other resources then that would significantly improve the country's economy, monopolization and greed won't make them think of this.
