It's only if you sell your bitcoin that you're at loss but if you don't sell when the price is low, you are not at loss because 1btc=1btc. Don't worry about the dip because the price will surely bounce back which is where you are to continue to hodli overtime till when the price has reached your price target to sell. Don't panic because it will lead to wrong decisions that will make you regret. Just hodli and if possible, buy more if you have extra funds.

You mentioned it yourself; they are "long-term investors," by virtue, they are not short-term or medium-term investors, so why the panic? They ought to know what they were signing for. For me, they should continue to hold their Bitcoin. As history would have it, what's happening now is not an isolated case, and Bitcoin always get back higher over time. Patience is advised!

Is this the first time bitcoin is dropping in price, so why will people holding bitcoin panic to sell their bitcoin, everyone who has been holding bitcoin for long now has been used to bitcoin dropping in price, bitcoin is volatile in nature and everyone knows that it will surely drop and rise that’s bitcoin nature and it will continue this way.

I know those who are new to bitcoin investment don’t understand this bitcoin volatile nature very well, and that’s why it’s very important to go through the history of bitcoin growth it will help you have a better understanding as a newbie.

You ask about long term investors, then the answer is very simple "HODL".

A real long term investor does not care about short term fluctuations, they only see the real potential of Bitcoin as based on its historical price we can conclude that overall it's growing, so they should focus on that direction and ignore those short term fluctuations, and if the price dips, it's even a good time to accumulate more.. that's being very positive.

Most are scared? Absolutely not true. The only ones who might be scared (or whose fear I can actually understand) are probably those who bought relatively recently, around the time of the last all time high.

So what are your advice to those long-term investors?
Should they sell their Bitcoin or they should keep holding to it despite the unstable state of Bitcoin price recently?
Bitcoin's price volatility is well known to everyone, especially to those who have been in the market for a long time. It's not like it has been behaving like a stablecoin for years and suddenly started going up and down.

They should stay away from FOMO and trust in long-term investments.

When does FOMO occur? When you do not trust Bitcoin or do not know about its nature. Bitcoin has always been volatile and there are deep periods in every cycle. So there is no need to panic if you see a decline.

You are talking about long-term investors, if they behave like that, they may not have to face losses. But if they behave like traders or short-term investors, they will definitely face losses. Avoid changing goals in the middle of the journey.

Long term investors of bitcoin should not even have any business with flaunting price, and why should Dey also panic when they know that they are not selling now and the price will still correct it self and even gain more profit when they eventually will be ready to sell.

When you consider investing in bitcoin, most especially for the long term plans then there is no need to even look at or worry about the movement of price. Because the price should not move you to sell your holdings since the plan was to keep for longer time and get bigger rewards later.

Since you are talking about the long term, just focus on HODL and try to take advantage of the opportunity to buy at a low price.

Now if your Bitcoin is not lost or hacked, then you will not lose everything just because of the price fluctuation, you just have to be patient and HODL. Look at the past history, the price of Bitcoin has fallen a lot in the past but has recovered again.

Just as I posted on the other forum, you call them long term investors which means they have been holding bitcoin since a long time ago. That means they did not sell their coins when bitcoin price was over $100000. That means they will not be ready to sell their coins this time too, but I think they can buy more.

I do not see any signs that the market is headed for a deep correction; despite the Binance hack and all the negative news surrounding the security of services and hardware wallets, the price has neither collapsed nor undergone a sharp correction.
The sale might be driven by security-related reasons, rather than investment motives or a fear of a price collapse.

Nobody sells his bitcoins as a result of market fluctuations because they are normal since Bitocoin itself is volatile so the price is never stable, the only thing that makes some investors to panic and sell their bitcoins is due to prolonged DIP or when the market is falling continually.

I don't have any advice for a long term investor because for him to hold that long means that he has encountered many market DIP that would have prompted him to sell but he wasn't moved because of the long term target he had. A long-term investor already understands the market so what does he needs my advice for? As a long-term investor you have already conquered many temptation of selling in the past so if you decide to sell your Bitcoins due to a market DIP i see nothing wrong with that inasmuch as you ain't selling at lost.

Those who call themselves investors are those who build themselves not by wealth but with a long-term mindset. They don't sell just because of the price correction. Instead, they will buy more. They prefer to hold and collect rather than be afraid.

For them, losing happens when you are panicking. That is why they don't use their emotions. Instead, they remain patient and disciplined. But this can only be achieved if you also have the mindset of an investor.

Honestly, no advice from me. My point is, anyone who consider themselves a long term investor should already know what they need to do.

If few market swing are enough to scare them into panic selling, then they were never long term investors to begin with. For people like that, issue is not whether they should sell their BTC or keep holding it.

They need to take good look at themselves first. If you can't stomach the volatility, do not rush to throw your money into market. Take the time to learn instead, build up your knowledge and really understand what this market is about before you put any money in.

The fluctuations of Bitcoin's price are nothing new, and as a beginner investor, you just have to get used to it. Volatility is always constant, and if you are disturbed by it, you can never hodl Bitcoin.

The reason why investors panic due to the fluctuations of Bitcoin's price is that they do not understand the volatility of Bitcoin, and they may not be holding for the long term; it is possible they have a specific time frame in which they want to make a profit from Bitcoin. If you understand Bitcoin's volatility and make up your mind to hodl for the long term, I don't see why one should be bothered about the volatility of Bitcoin.

Keep calm, and don't panic. If you're investing for long term especially yearly basis, there's no reason to sell your bitcoin at discounted price because it's a stupid idea. Bitcoin's price is gonna appreciating steadily due to the its scarce supply. If you have more money, then DCA is the best while you're also waiting for the bullish to come.

People invested in bitcoin because it can be used to hedge against the inflation and it's the advantage of bitcoin's volatility. If bitcoin was a stable asset, people would not take it as hedging asset.

Be smart and don't feel to the FUD.  Wink

Should they sell their Bitcoin or they should keep holding to it despite the unstable state of Bitcoin price recently?

First they have to understand that when There’s decrease in market prices , it doesn’t affect their bitcoin holdings only affect the value of their bitcoin stashes . As long as an individual continues holding, regardless of how much the price drops, they haven’t actually realised a loss unless they eventually sell at a lower price. The other way they can lose all their assets is through poor management which can lead to scammers getting access to their assets .

So as a long term investor, is quite easier to handle dip compare to short term investors . Because your focus already is on longterm so you’re aware that the market usually under goes correction before prices rally or push further to any direction the market heading to (uptrend or downtrend).  So your focus for now especially as a low coiner or a no coiner , is accumulating as much as you can . Knowing are to take advantage of any market conditions.

What they normally do is of course hold.

They are here for long term holding so definitely they have witnessed and experienced the big dumps every year and since they survived those, it means they will continue to hold. Bitcoin price dumps are normal, even without bad news in the market, the price still dumps so what is happening now is nothing new and although we witnessed a dump, it's not like the massive dumps we witnessed in the past, this hack was not even able to bring Bitcoin down by 10%.

Check the history.. long term holders survive this.

If any long term holder is scared of Bitcoin price action I am sure that they lied to you that they are long term holders, it's only a newbie that can behave that way.

A genuine long term holder will have understand the market very well, they would have know that all it takes as a bitcoin holder is to just hold, the time will come where all holders will be paid for holding.

It's only beginners that get scared and always look at the present value of your portfolio every hours of the day, a long term holder means someone who is already familiar with the market behaviour.

Has there ever been a time when bitcoin price was completely stable? isn't the volatility of bitcoin an inherent property of bitcoin that has been that way for as long as we can remember? is there even a possibility that bitcoin will cease to be volatile even in times to come? As a long term investor, one of the things you are supposed to accept early enough is the fact that bitcoin will continue to remain volatile.

If bitcoin gets bearish, it presents an opportunity to buy at a much cheaper rate and if bitcoin price even goes bullish, a long term investor is at ease because it gives a pointer to the fact that his asset is doing well. If the price of bitcoin drops while i am still invested, i will take advantage of the DIP to accumulate more chunk of bitcoin because chances are that such DIP might not come again anytime soon or ever again.
