theymos appreciation post

Pre-note: I hope we have been through enough 'break' to not warrant another scolding :sweats:

So, this is appreciation post for theymos as title says. Cause, since theymos banned mixers, they moved to ALTT (ICYDK: https://www.altcoinstalks.com/) to promote themselves which allowed users to have a new source of income, so even if on Bitcointalk BMs don't hire 'em or are sigbanned, they still have another chance to put food on their dining table, or on floor if you eat on floor... on plate of course.

theymos looking for welfare of Bitcointalk users since time immemorial (I understand it was unintended consequence nonetheless I would like to credit theymos).

Theymos did the forum a very good thing about mixers, but I do not think you should create another topic for it. You could have posted this on the Mixer restrictions thread.

The other forum was like dead before what theymos did and there are many people on this forum that teleported their account their to earn more bitcoin which is a very good thing.

When mixers were banned in this forum, I was not happy about it then because I felt doing that was at variance with the principles upon which bitcoin was built. I couldn't just accept the fact that censorship was winning but over time I have come to realized that it was the best decision Theymos would have taken as at that time. I may not know what he had to deal with behind the scenes to keep the forum up and running but it was obvious that there was so much attention to this forum following several stolen funds linked to mixers and the only way to douse tension was the decision he took. Although I still want to see mixers back to this forum someday, when it becomes obvious that the forum will be protected. Theymos deserve to be appreciated just like the post says.

I have to wholeheartedly disagree with you here.  That lie was a narrative pushed by people trying to force support for mixers on this website.  There is absolutely nothing about Bitcoin that even hints that you should trust a 3rd party service with your personal information in order to obtain financial privacy.  It is actually the opposite.  If this community wants financial privacy for their Bitcoin, they need to develop it into the software so everyone can enjoy it.  Not limit it to fake privacy for whoever wants to trust a honeypot so spammers can profit.

Oh! It did not occur to me, I am at mercy of my brain to tell me what to do, and in this case it didn't. You make sense though, I could have, now we gonna have topic, because it's posted.

Someone with a bit more brains might have thought to mention his defence of freedom of expression, the exquisite way he deals with complaints, or the ideas he's implemented over the years to improve the forum – such as the merit system or the trust system – but your birdbrain just can’t manage any more than that.

If people need privacy, there are many means that it can be achieved without mixers. Example are the swap exchanges that support privacy coin. But for people that like mixers, mixers that are good make the work done for them. Bitcoin is not a complete privacy coin and that can not change for now or probably also in the future. That makes the mixers to be useful, but why are you calling them spammers as if they are not useful? Or you mean they are scammers?

Also he single-handedly spawned the privacy directory industry with that decision, whereas before we basically had just KYCnot.me and Monerica.

Whatever people think about him, to me this is just one of several legendary achievements of his.

Yeah I posted 3000 plus posts there and make a few bucks a week.

If anyone wants to praise theymos it should be for holding over 1100 btc on two addresses for the last 11 years.

No matter what you do, some will appreciate your effort while some will go against it; this is human nature because we see things differently.

The forum is better left in such a way that does not attribute it to promoting anything that will tarnish its image as part of what constitutes the incident of scamming or harboring hackers. Mixers may have nothing to do with hacks, but the moment some fraudulent activities are being staged, they run under the use of mixers to clean their coins, and this is what the forum will not join in promoting.

It was actually good for him to have ban mixers here, there are other site that allows mixers on their platform but here it is already shutdown. I don't think there is any possibility for the thing to be reversed back, of course you are right he should made it that section to reduce how often the topic would be raised here.

But that's how it works.

When mixers were active here, iirc they were hiring a few quality users and pay 'em well, but since mixers got banned and spawned on ALTT to promote themselves, average users are also hired and they are able to put food on their dining table. So, imo, It's good for overall welfare of bitcointalk users; quality users can still get a good deals here anyhow (unrelated to mixers).
