This has been on my mind for some time now, I really think it's a good idea, the "like and dislike" won't really count for anything its just a kind of check as to how reasonable people find your opinions.

Sorry but it’s a shitty idea, we already have the best way to appreciate a post and it’s the merits which to me is still a better idea. The merit is very well better than just the like you see on social media, the fact that the merit is also a factor to grow in rank is actually a great idea although there have many cases of it not be perfect but still it doesn’t makes it less better than a like As for dislike they have been discussions around Demerit button too but admin doesn’t seems to like the idea right now and would only add it when this doesn’t works anymore There is currently no such thing as a "demerit". I'm hoping that the positive merits alone will be fine. I could add demerits pretty easily later on if necessary, though.

Good, there is no need complicating the system some more. This idea has been raised before and didn't gain traction. If you like someone's post, give some merit, at least the quantity of merit you give should demonstrate your level of appreciation for that post and how much the contribution is helpful to you. Bitcointalk isn't social media. I don't see any reason for that like/dislike feature.

Can I start by not liking your idea? Really nothing good can come of this idea, implementing it would not help the forum at all. Go play on Facebook if you are looking to like something.

We already have something of that nature in this forum, if you see a post that you like, to show that you like that post you merit the post. Another way to show that you like or dislike a post is by replying.
So with this two ways, is there still any reason why the forum should create a like and dislike function? The answer is no because it has other ways by which someone can like or dislike a post, if we had no other way then your opinion would have made sense.
From my comment on this your thread it’s clear that I dislike your post or disagree with you, so why do i need a dislike function to express my dislike on a particular post while i can express my dislike or like very well on writing.

The merit system is enough than to be introducing what are not necessary just like the 'like and dislike' that you want the forum to implement. I do not know the reason many of you want some thing that is on Altcoinstalks to be brought to this forum but when the quality posters on the forum are Bitcointalk members. I am referring to those Bitcointalk members that teleported their accounts to the other forum.

OP, if we could evaluate the usefulness of creating your theme now, you would see many dislikes. It's unpleasant, isn't it? Instead of hunting for merit, creating several alternative accounts, and spamming with AI, you should work on the quality of your posts yourself. Otherwise, even without dislikes, you will receive another negative tag very soon. (See her tags.)

Like or dislike, it's personal feeling and you don't need to show it to other forum members. There is merit system and smerit that you can send to posts you like but "like" should be for the post quality and contribution to forum community. There are posts were "liked" with merit but don't have good post quality but it's not how smerit is recommended to use by admins. Merit & new rank requirements. I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by: - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc. - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.
While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

"like and dislike" won't really count for anything its just a kind of check as to how reasonable people find your opinions.
Then what is the merit system for? If you like the quality of a post you simply merit it which is similar to like and if you think the quality is poor you hit the report to moderator button which is similar to dislike. First, "like and dislike" gives this social media vibe and secondly, I can merit a post even if the post contradicts with my idea (So long as the post is constructive enough). So I don't see any need for this.

About demerit I don't see it as something that is necessary and it will cause a lot of problems if it's developed in this forum. Just imagine someone posting what is not educative to you and you demerit the person meanwhile it is educative to others and they are meriting the post, it will cause confusion and as time goes on if you have issues with someone they will always demerit your post, even if it is handled by some set of people they can still use it against someone they have issues with or they don't like. The merit system is okay the way it is, theymos just need to appoint more merit source especially the one's that will put more attention to those boards lacking merit.

its just a kind of check as to how reasonable people find your opinions.
Reasonable people or …reasonable, people… You can easily figure that out from the post engagement and merit. If someone find your opinions quite reasonable they will give you some merits or reply to it.. and from the replies, you should be able to tell if it is something “people find reasonable” or not. If you don’t like what someone posts, walk away or counter it or put the person on ignore, it shouldn’t be that hard.. is it?

Lol, I was thinking if op was mistaken bitcointalk forum for a social media platform, probably Facebook or Instagram. However, the merit system is still very active as we speak and it's serving what it was meant for and we are super cool with it. Therefore, I find this thread not that useful, and maybe locking it up will make more sense than when it's open. Cheer up man and think of something better..

What is the purpose of "like" is it to ensure topic appears first, to keep a reply/thread visible for a longer period, or something else? On social media, a "like" serves as a metric for engagement, but it is easily manipulated through bots; therefore, a forum is a better environment for fostering unbiased discussions.

Every suggestion is welcome, but when it's intended to discredit the concept once created for the betterment and quality posting on this forum, people intend to disapprove of it. I personally disagree with your suggestion because the merit system isn't just a vanity metric like a Facebook/Twitter like. It actually has weight due to how it contributes to rank, and how it shows that the person who gives out the merit like what was contributed to a discussion. I believe people generally think twice before giving it because it costs them something from their limited smerit pool. I believe the like/dislike button you suggested would turn the forum into vote brigading and a noise platform.

Your idea gives a social media kind of vibe where someone can like or dislike a post but this is a Bitcoin discussion forum and not a social media platform. This your idea also reminds me of the altcointalk forum where you can give karma to a good post and also give a negative karma to a bad post. However, every forum or platform have their unique style and as for this forum, what is used to appreciate or like a good post is merit, I can see you already have 6 merits.

The forum will get uglier if like and dislike is introduced, remember that we can't all be perfect, even if you have the best answer for something or a problem there will always be people who will not like the idea, imagine getting dislike because of this?
It's a very bad idea., I have the right to drop my opinion even if I don't like what you are saying and I believe this is more than enough, it's now left for you to either take my opinion as an advice or ignore it.
It's just like asking if one wife is good or if two wives is good, it's going to be both sides been right because a wife has advantages and disadvantages, while two wives also have advantages and disadvantages.

Are you not tired of dumb scrolling and liking things which you obviously don’t have need for or if rewatched or revisited would not like?

Many people prefer to spend time on bitcointalk, rather than on social media, you don't want to give them that same feeling here, do you. If you don't like a post, just ignore it. If a user makes too many posts/threads that you do not like, just put them on your ignore list. And if you come across spam that you think should not be allowed here, just report it. As for the posts you think deserves a "reward", just send a merit or more to them. Case closed!
