Ive noticed something that is common in Nigeria. Which is the habit of using violence and aggression to solve problems that could be settled with dialogue and peaceful conversation. People could go to the length of destroying someone's years of effort to show wickedness. The way people respond to disagreement is not right. Violence isn't the only way to settle dispute.

Few days ago, a young business man who sells cars lost his car dealer office through wildfire. From investigation, it was said that the act was carried out by someone. The person is not yet known though. Total cars lost in the fire, cost around 1 Billion naira. He lost everything he has worked hard for years. Which maybe due to an argument, or conflict with someone.

I am calling this a pandemic because this behavior is found in most Nigerians. It is widely associated in adults, almost like a disease.

I no dey support violence in any form but some people dey always resort to violence as them see say nah that one dey bring the response then dey find. Now, I no go really know wetin the victim and the person wey burn the shop bin get wey go make the latter choose this option but I sure say e for don dey avoided if say them iron things out properly.

Some people see it as a weakness when you choose to settle things peacefully with them. They will rather hurt someone or even go as far as destroying what they have worked for just because they want to prove a point. Even with that, what does it solve, nothing. Even if you are angry or feel that someone has wronged you, there should always be a limit to how you react in that state. Not every disagreement needs to turn into a fight. Sometimes you should be able to control your anger and walk away, this alone shows sign of maturity. No argument should be worth destroying another person life just because you couldn’t win an argument.

The thing is some people don’t know how to handle disagreement without turning things in to something personal. Immediately they feel offended like this, they stop thing about the consequences of their actions and focus only on getting back at that person.
That you are able to control your anger doesn’t make you weak and likewise walking way does not mean that the other person as won. It’s just maturity like you mentioned, we need to stop taking revenge because if you decide to destroy someone life now, it doesn’t even fix whatever went wrong in the first place, it only fuels it and eventually leads to something that you might regret at the end of the day.

The problem is people don’t know how to handle dispute between humans, there are people who can be very violent when you have problems with them they will make sure they deal with you in such a way that you’ll never imagine someone to deal with you, but it actually depends on the magnitude of the issues on ground, sometimes there are issues that can’t be resolved with dialogue, you’ll go to the police they can’t give you justice, when you take people to court they will use their money to fight you back and you end up loosing the case, and you might think of violence to take matters into your own hand, and I feel that isn’t the right way to channel things, the problem we have is Nigeria, there is absolutely no justice in this country called Nigeria.

From most of the replies i am seeing here, it seems to me that no one is seeing things from a neutral ground.
I am not justifying the actions of the suspect for lighting up that man’s car lot and obviously violence is not the way to resolution.
But omo, if you have been wronged and cheated heavily by someone you might find yourself loosing your senses and morality. People can be wicked and corny especially in the line of business. Someone can wreck you or betray from a big deal or transaction and still go to bed with clear conscience.
Sometimes people do things they never thought they would be capable of doing, na man dey make man wicked.
I don’t support violence though.

I am calling this a pandemic because this behavior is found in most Nigerians. It is widely associated in adults, almost like a disease.

This has been the system in Nigeria for ages now, once people hear any evil information about someone they won't investigate to know the truth before taking action, they will just go ahead to destroy the person's property and by the time they realize that the person is innocent they have already done so much damage that can't be reversed and this has lead to so much damages to people's properties and even going as far as taking human lives.

There was a scenerio of such that took place in ALUU in Port Harcourt in 2011 where the community burnt four innocent Men to death just because they called them thieves without proper investigation and at the end of the day they discovered that they were not thieves but students who went to demand for the money they were owed. Jungle Justice is something that should be stopped because it has taken more innocent lives than saving lives, violence and taking laws into one's hands is really a pandemic that needs to be tackled with severity by the government so as to end it.

This is true. Especially when the other person in conflict with you calls you a weak fellow, then asks you, "Who are you?, What can you do?"

Violence is the reaction to an opposite action. When one person strikes an insult, without controlling his words, the other person will react. The violence won't have started. The first person never pushed for it.

The thing is that I won't justify the actions of whoever did this, but I know for sure that something would have led to this level of anger, because for someone to burn cars that worth that amount, perhaps they have not told us what prompted that, humans are wicked, some people don't like to keep to their own terms, we are in a country where people that thinks that they have money morethan you can intimidate you by every means, they don't care, cause they think you can't do anything, you see this matter, I no go judge am direct, because I know say something ne em make person wey do that thing get mind do am.

In all your endeavors, avoid violence. Only a few people are mentally okay in this country, not an excuse, but the situation of the country has raised more abgeros than the normal, most of them are dressed properly, doing normal jobs, but until it gets to the time to showcase, that is when you know not everyone who dresses nice is mentally sound to have an issue with.

With no street cameras, how will the person be identified, and who is carrying out the investigations? In a video of the incident, i saw firefighters arriving about two hours after the incident, the fire had already gone down by then, we are in a county where nothing works.

I don't think this is just a Nigerian thing. But this person's business has ran into a serious issue that needs a lot of money to fix. Who knows whether some of the cars are even on loans and everything burnt to the ground. I feel for that man. 1 billion naira is no small money at all.
Let's not forget that is hasn't really been confirmed that is someone. It might just be rumors.
