I read this statement from a virtual assistant who lost her job because of AI on social media. She was a long-time virtual assistant for online companies until the company notified that they are downsizing because some AI can handle the task.

She did not lose hope of finding a new job online, and she noticed that most of the jobs available are all about VA who knows Claude, AI tools, automation, and prompt writing.

From there, she understood that she was not replaced by AI but VA, who knows how to handle AI, so instead of fighting AI, she made it her next skill.

I believe this is a positive approach for a VA who lost her job because of AI. There are still many companies that are looking for a human virtual assistant, but they need to know how to use AI.

Yes, if in that industry is requiring them that to stay in the competition so of course. They have to learn the new skills that includes AI usage and the tools that the clients or companies that they should work with. I've heard of that before about saying that AI will replace workers. That's half true because it is what you've said that's actually the real scenario. Whoever uses these ai tools, they'll be more hirable by these companies that might also adopt to use it so that they'll be more competitive and will stay in shape. It only takes some time to learn these things if they want to stay on this industry.

Various jobs now are in need of upskilling and those upskilling includes the AI skills such as prompt engineering. VA industry is evolving, most of the VA tasks can now be handled by an AI. Many clients relies now on AI agents as a replacement for their VA but there are clients that still want a human touch but with an efficiency of AI this is why upskilling is needed for Virtual assistance. Depending on the industry, most of the tools has an AI features built with in it and using it will boost efficiency this is why clients are finding VA that knows how to use it.

White collar jobs are slowly being replaced by an AI. Not adapting it will make you irrelevant, especially in the upcoming years. We are seeing a lot of layoffs partly due to AI handling those jobs. So learning how to use it is not considered as an advantage now, it is a skill that you need if you want to be hired.

I think that is a pretty common story right now: there are a lot of online opportunities you can do easily with AI that can really improve the output, as long as you know how to do it and make sure it is not slop.

For skilled jobs, the tools you are able to operate always turns out to be a very huge advantage ahead of others and how versatile you are on the job and related fields.

Since they work online, then they should integrate well the use of AI by learning AI skills if that's the only way they will stay competitive in their market industry. AI forces people to adapt but I also think that just knowing how to use AI is not enough, it's only matter of time until companies releasing their full agentic AI assistant that could connect to everything. When that happens, people who know AI will also become redundant. We can't stop AI. We can't prevent its further development. And it's not as if AI is pure evil. So, I believe it's perfectly valid for people to adopt the 'if you can't beat them, join them' stance.

Whether we like it or not, AI helps not only virtual assistants but even ordinary office staff. AI makes tasks easier, more accurate, and so on and so forth. In which case, why should we avoid it as if it's disadvantageous?

The question isn't whether workers should incorporate AI or not; it's whether you make the most of the latest technological developments or get stuck in the past and left behind.

Yes, this is a positive approach for a VA who lost their job and desperate. This is the perfect approach when it comes to AI right now.

Look for a VA who knows how to incorporate AI to his/her work. Look for a VA who knows how to maximize the use of AI to be more efficient in his work. Look for a VA who knows how to use AI in order work way faster than the usual one. While I agree that there will be jobs in the future where it will be taken over by AI, I always believe that there will be things where you will really need the help of a VA that knows how to use AI rather than just relying on AI alone.

If you can't adapt with the environment, you will be facing into a lot of trouble, and you will be competing against other VAs out there who knows how to maximize the use of AI. Not adapting = harder time to look for a job.

Due to the development of technology, our workplace is no longer the same as before. Workplaces are now turning to advanced technology so that they can provide better services in less time and at a lower cost. According to current technology, AI is the best option, industries are now turning to AI and are trying to reduce their costs by laying off workers.

I think she made a good choice to learn about AI. Learning about VA can use AI will help her get another job as soon as possible. She realized that her job was taking by VA that understand how to use AI and not that her job was replaced by AI. Some news can say her job was replaced by AI, but which is actually not true.

Another thing is that AI create more jobs than they eliminate jobs.

I've mentioned this before that AI is not a problem or a weapon fashioned against human race, it should be something that works as an assistance to human knowledge. As humans, we are imperfect and can make mistakes too, but the use of AI will increase our accuracy, speed and proficiency to make work easier and faster. It was wise of the virtual assistant to not remain locked up in her past and feel wronged for what happened, but rather worked on improving herself to stay available for the next online job.

AI is not the problem, our mentality sometimes can be a barrier to our advancement. AI is not perfect, humans too are imperfect but the combined effort of both would always remain unbeatable.

I don't think learning how to use VA AI tools and prompt will be difficult for an experienced VA, because they're already somewhat tech savvy and won't need a whole lot of learning to be good for the competition. Unless it is a completely unrelated field, then perhaps, it might be somewhat hard.

I've reiterated this point previously: AI is just a tool, and every Tom, Dick, and Harry can use it to their advantage. I think everyone should adopt it, because that's where the world is heading. Although, with caution and regulation so as not to turn the world into a robotic world where every interactions and contents are just slops.

Start with the free ones, I think claude and the other known AI companies provide trainings that are for free. One who's starting to test the waters doesn't have to spend so much with it, unless you're a builder/vibe coder.

I am going to say something mean:

If AI replaced your job completely, with absolutely no wiggle room, and you cannot use AI to improve your freelancer services, then your job was not a good one in the first place.

The best thing to do now is to transform your skills and learn how to use AI to improve your service in such a way that no AI could do it alone.

Otherwise it is time to begin looking for a new job.
