If I am not mistakenly, this year 2026 may seems to be the worst year in the cryptocurrency history in regards to how often or frequent the crypto platforms are being hacked, this includes gambling site and cryptocurrency wallets at large.

I think it depends on a person's character, some people are more risk tolerant, while others are more risk averse. There are people who are willing to study security in great detail, and once they understand all the nuances and feel confident that they can protect their investments, they will be willing to put their money into it. Others prefer to take the safest possible route and always try to minimize the risk of losing their money.

So I think that yes, cryptocurrency security has always been a somewhat fragile issue, but 2026 has shown that things are even more complicated than we thought. And with quantum threats emerging, they could become even more complicated. As a result, perhaps the number of people willing to invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will gradually decrease as well.

This is no longer something new anymore in the cryptocurrency world and anyone who must have their investment secured must also value their security ranging from how you would be securing your personal information and all of that. To be honest, this alone can not keep scaring people away because if you track back the history you would always see the trace of hack in the story line. Even in the bank, there is also a track records of scam or hacking in the banking world.
What I will always want you to have at your back is that; To whatever that is related to finance you should always know that there will be a history of hack or scamming, because money attracts thieves and hackers.

Well, if we talk about personal security, such as losing seed phrases and private keys, getting phished or scammed, or losing your wallet completely, then such concerns come with individual irresponsibility. A person who is generally or naturally responsible with money and financial management stuff, they would never have any problems with security in these areas because they will know how they can protect themselves and their assets if they start using cryptocurrencies. Of course, they will need to focus on getting enough knowledge before they get started, but knowledge comes later, general awareness comes first.

However, when we talk about hacks, exploits, security breaches from platforms and wallets, then there is no doubt that there has been a lot of incidents lately that have created a lot of doubt within those who were yet a part of this industry but maybe were planning an entry, attacks such as the coldcard one are even more problematic because we always say that we should use hardware wallets or non-custodial wallets to hold our assets because they are the safest, but then if a hardware wallet gets compromised and so many people lose so much money in it, then of course, others will fear using such services.

Things will obviously become normal again after some time, because people forget over time, it is just that back to back attacks are happening, so it still feels fresh, but if developers and platforms start tightening their security even more, things will improve over time.

I think there's even news about the US trying to pass a law banning super powerful AI since it's a big reason why this happens, so the threat is really serious since the government has already taken action on it. But as soon as the issue is solved, I think people will start buying again.

As naturally disasters are to earth and nature, so is hacking and scamming to the crypto space, they are bad but the tendency of it happening is always there, as there are ways of precaution to get around natural disaster, so there is a way of precaution to get around hacking, using self custody is a very good example for precaution.

security's value is yet another factor that i think is of extreme importance as it defines the attitude of people towards making investments. tho it has huge potential, it wont be invested in by the people due to the possibility of losses...with better safety, however, it will restore the trust of people into the crypto currency and it is important to note that not everyone is aware of everything that is needed to be known in order not to become scammed while making investments. Therefore, it is extremely important for me to solve the problem of trust as people tend to invest in something that ensures their safety and with time, people will be interested in entering the market again.

The news of cryptocurrency hacks that are very common this year with exchanges and sometimes even casino are only just exposing vulnerabilities in the system that I believe will be improved on to make cryptocurrency more secure for the future. It is a lot of concern that the recent situations will create in the hearts of investors currently who may begin to think again about their decision to want to hold Bitcoin for a long time considering that security is not so assured based on what is happening but I believe Bitcoin will rise through this become better and harder for hackers to penetrate. As time goes on, we will learn better ways to secure our cryptocurrency and information on how to secure a cryptocurrency will surely conquer fear.

You're not wrong, but I think you are overlooking the fact that not everyone in crypto has the knowledge and experience for self custody. That's exactly why exchanges still have a huge user base after years and a long string of hacks.

Besides, even a self custody wallet isn't risk free or 100% safe. Not everyone can protect themselves against phishing, malware or even more sophisticated attacks.

So imo , frequent hacks and scams can definitely shake newcomers' confidence and make them think twice about getting into crypto .

I think peoples lax attitude towards security is a major threat to their own crypto investment.

Security is not as hard as people make it out to be. But almost nobody follows the extremely simple advice here on the board. In fact, many people create and use a wallet on the same device that they use to surf the internet on. And then they are surprised when they download a malicious file that spies on them and finds out their seed.

Or they write down their seed and put it in a place where anyone can easily find it.

There are many ways people fail to strengthen their own security.

Same goes for whales. You would not believe how lazy even the rich people are with their security.

I think, again and repeated again hacking crime on major platforms  triggers a rather extreme shift in mentality. This reportage triggered an emotional shock in response to a technical failure, and simultaneously  its testing the limits of each individual's tolerance. I think the levels of tolerance for acceptance vary for each individual. The most extreme response are turning FOMO to be FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt). Many of us even asking the validity of the entire crypto ecosystem. Some of risk averse or newbie investor, they decide returning to a conventional system banking or gold. they prefer missing out on the potential for large gains for peace of mind which offered by banking regulations.

For me my self hacking only matter of cost of doing business that we already know and even anticipated it especially these forum member should be battle tested already so that even if it does happen, there won't be too much panic, but instead immediately execute the risk mitigation plan that has been prepared. We have a strong belief in blockchain technology. Of course we will lost confidence in centralized exchanges and many people migrate to decentalized wallet

Negative news about cryptocurrency always discourage people from venturing into the crypto space.  So it is not surprising if many investors back out from the idea of investing into cryptocurrency if an exchange or smartcontracts gets hacked.

If yes, what is the methodology that would be deploy to help reduce the rate at which people are getting scammed?

First, one must differentiate between cryptocurrency, the difference betwen exchanges and cryptocurrency, and establish knowledge about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.  In addition, investors must understand the difference between centralization and decentralization.  An investors must understand how the market performs, so the methodology that should be deploy is providing important information about the cryptocurrency industry, scams, and how personal characteristics help one to avoid scams.

The idea behind cryptocurrency and Web3 is digital ownership and ownership comes with a lot of personal responsibility. One of such responsibility is to decide whether to use the self custodial method and hold your crypto in a wallet yourself and take charge of it's growth and security by being up to date on security matters or you decide to store your critical in exchange accounts.

That freedom to pick and choose is what crypto offers.

Yes, a comment I saw somewhere says, not everyone can save their own money, they'll always needs someone to help them do it. I've came to understand that, humans are different in handling things and doing things. Some people can't save their private key no matter how they were rightly given to store, they'll end up missing it.

So keeping their belongings to someone else is their biggest flex, they are unable to complete the journey of self custodial wallet creation, they find it difficult and such. The only way that works for them is simply storing somewhere under another body.

Industry leaders should address these concerns so people continue to trust the markets. The job interview hack on Binance is very disappointing, but on a positive note, they assure the safety of investors' funds.

On our side, we need to educate ourselves and remain mindful of what's happening in the industry. We must be aware that hacking and scamming are here and part of the industry, and knowledge is our key to preventing them.

The crypto space is very wide, if anyone thinks they cannot secure their coin to an extend then I will not bother convincing about security. Security also has to do with our mindset, firstly how people picture crypto secondly, the scam situation happening currently don’t determine our investment outcome.
Definitely security is a major threat to crypto investment, we can never tell what’s next and presently one cannot be careful enough, most victims do follow the basic terms of security yet one way or the other they’re involved in a scam situation.

It is a major threat when it comes to cryptocurrency and is definitely going to destroy the market if the security crashes. We already see a lot of hacking on platforms this year, and there are a lot of them losing a huge amount on their platforms, affecting the market price. This was definitely bad news, and it is going to create a lot of fear in the market if this kind of activity continues.

But still, as long as the network was not the one getting compromised,d it is still going to continue, previous hacking was already explained, and we know where or how it happened. But what if the actual crypto was cracked and compromised? Like, what if the actual Bitcoin was hacked? If I'm not mistaken, it has a huge bounty on its head if someone is going to be able to crack its code, but so far no one has ever done that, but for sure, it is going to cause a huge panic if that happened, and the market is going to collapse.
