I’m one of those that converted from short term trader to long term trader.

I realized that I can earn much better with less hassle on price checking after experiencing a lot of devastating liquidation and missing the opportunity to sell on top just because I sell earlier due to too much checking on the price/FUD.

Currently, I’m on profit every year by doing DCA whenever the price of Bitcoin corrects on significant level then slowly take profit in the end of the year or when the price already recovers back(whichever comes first).

I started with long-term trading as I held Bitcoin for years, got profit from it, and I was happy so I decided to try short-term trading, as in my mind, I thought this was an opportunity to make consistent profits, but I was just hyped by what I saw and I realized that short-term trading is not for everyone, especially those who cannot dedicate their time to it, so after failing I went back to long-term trading. I don't feel the stress anymore.

It actually depends on what you mean by short term and long term trading, I am trying to understand whether by short term trading you meant scalping and day trading, while for the long term trading you meant swing or position trading, or holding?
Personally, I have been a day trader since I started trading till today, I actually tried scalping because I see some videos of scalp traders online and they tend to be make a lot of profit very fast, taking multiple trades within an hour, and I liked it but when I tried it several times, it was not favourable to me, so I decided to stick to my day trading and the longest I can remember holding a trade position is for about 3 days. Day trading is cool for me and I am profitable with it.

If you don't define what you mean by short term trading and long term trading in the context of this discussion, people may mistakes this to mean.

Short position Vs long position

I know that is not what you mean, but for me short term trading is ok for Someone who lack ability to control their emotions first and untill they grow pass that level, only then can they do long-term trading and without incurring losses and making profits from it.

Both longterm and short term trading are risky . But most time due to the  volatility shortterm trading tend to be more riskier than that of longterm. Though, you can make good amount of money from both , when come to long term one just have to be patient and have enough capital to make something good from it , but shortterm trading don’t completely require much capital to make some good amount. But it requires high level of discipline and also deep knowledge in order to make something good from it , picking should boils down to your risk tolerance and stuff not just return .

I have been long term trading in stocks before coming to crypto. In crypto as well I have mostly done it long term holding, selling when I need and then buying back at the low again.

Those who have done short term trading for the first time in their lives and that too in crypto, have mostly been into a loss or have performed so badly that they are not willing to come to long term trading ever in future.

But I feel that long term trading is safe, requires less head cracking once the order has been executed at a good discounted buying price and then held off for months till a good selling point is reached and then the cycle continues.

All of us probably want to try day trading as that is one of the most challenging ways of making money, maybe we get inspired when we watch those successful day traders, so we try it on our own, but I'm sure many of us fail, so there's no need to prolong the problem.

Because even long-term investment is still profitable. In day trading, it's like sports betting, you get eaten by the vig, while in trading it's the trading fees, it would be okay if you are consistently making money but if not then in the end you still lose. Maybe we should also know ourselves, know what we are capable of and for me long-term trading is really the way to go.

I started trading as a newbie. I thought it was a way to get high profits for myself. I only chose short term trading and was being guided by others. It took about 1 year to realize that my decision was wrong. During this time, I gained a lot of experience about the market and that was my turning point in a very impressive way. I started investing for the long term by accumulating Bitcoin in the DCA method and I am still doing that.

I gradually lost a lot of funds in trading and I realized that the trading strategy of earning high profits in a short time was risky. It was almost addictive like gambling. Long term Bitcoin investment is much more peaceful and great compared to the bad tendency of looking at charts frequently and mentally unstable.

I wouldn't say that short term trading was unprofitable for me, but I definitely had quite a few losing trades. At the same time, while I was actively engaged in short term trading, I also had several positions that I had bought with the intention of hold them long term, including Bitcoin and a few altcoins. Overall those investments generated more profit over a longer holding period than all my efforts in short term trading combined. So over time, I gradually shifted towards longer term trades.

The impression that I have for profitable traders is they're good in short term trading. While that is true for some but it's not for me.

So from aspiring to go with short term or scalp trading, I found myself not good at it. Transitioned to long term and if holding for long is just the same as is.

It's easier to hold or trade for the long term than to chase the market in the short term because it's more volatile and pressuring to do that to be honest.

See, I've gone from short term to long term, from long-term to short term, from both long term and short term to taking a break from trading, now I'm back.  Grin Cheesy
Done a lot to make this money. Trading is very difficult to maintain the same energy from when we start to the end. That's why many people quit trading.

Or you later quit trading as you are losing?
It is normal to feel the urge to quit trading when the losses become too much to handle. I've been in this position before. I swore never to trade again, but we humans are vulnerable to our emotions at times. Later, when I felt better, I decided to go into trading again.

Trading has never given me any profit because after making little little profit, one trade will wipe out all that profit and put me at loss for just one little mistake.

I have stopped trading for now and I'm more focused on buying and holdi to take little profit in the next bull run because I know that my portfolio will be in profit by then.

Initially trading seemed like a way to make quick money for me. When you start trading, it was a different experience. Some people suggested me to copy trading but I didn't believe in it. My trading experience started with losses. The next few months my capital was tied up because I didn't sell at a loss.

Trading was unprofitable for me because I had no experience and had to ask others for help to make decisions. In fact, I lost most of the few months I traded. I finally decided to quit trading.

In fact, I analyzed the market and decided to invest for the long term. I am now investing in Bitcoin for the long term because the price of Bitcoin is likely to increase much more in the future than it is now.

Or you later quit trading as you are losing?
I started with long term investing, which worked well and was profitable for me. I invested only in Bitcoin for many years, so there was no need to constantly check prices or worry about short-term market movements. I got introduced to short-term trading years later, and so far, the experience has been good.. but we all know that short term trading can be a rough journey. I started as a complete beginner, and I was lucky to experience what people call "newbie luck." Not every new trader gets this kind of luck. It's when you first enter the market and almost everything you do seems to work, allowing you to make some good money from trading.

Unfortunately, it didn't last long. I experienced several losing streaks afterwards, but instead of giving up, I decided to gain more knowledge and improve my skills. So far, things have been much better with my short-term trading..The risks in short-term trading are quite high, and without the right knowledge and understanding of the market, it's easy to get lost.

You can select two options.

I have always been concluding that most traders later quit short term trading because that was what I read in it in the past when I was learning about trading.

I just think about if we can have a poll about it on this forum.

Was short term trading profitable for you when you started trading or it was later that you started making money from it after some losses? It was unprofitable and you moved to long term trading which were profitable for you?

Or you later quit trading as you are losing?
It's been my observation that far more people who begin making short term trades lose money than win, and I found myself in that camp. I figured it would be the fastest method to develop a small account. I had to say that was the worst thing that could have happened to me. I became overconfident, I began to over trade, after every "win" increased my position size, and even moved my stop loss when a trade went against me. Most of my gains were lost in a couple of bad weeks.

To me, the chart was not the issue at all; it took me a long time to realize that's not the issue. Many of my entries were just because I got bored or I "felt the need to be there" rather than any sort of plan, and the entry fees were costing more than I anticipated.

I've been trading long term for most of the time and it is not as stressful. I do still occasionally take a short term trade but only when I know exactly where to get out of it, but I don't do that very often. I don't mean that short term doesn't work. Until I realized I'm better at being patient than being fast, it just did not seem to make sense to me.

I am a kind of dynamic trader whereby I can choose to go from a short-time trading to a long time based on my conviction for the market performance at a given time, I don't stay on a single pattern to trade as long as I am being convinced to see an opportunity over a particular trade to go for.

Going for trading is not what we have to remain on a single spot with the strategy we are using, but instead, we have to be more convinced to see how productive it could serve us at any point, as well as when the indicators are showing the green light for hosting a particular trading strategy for better advantage to make profits.

I was a day trader before I switched on being a long term trader. Simple reason, I got busy and the profit I'm getting isn't worth much compared on the stress it gives me. Doing trades daily made me experienced a burnout which clouded my mind that results on a bad trading day. It's hard juggling a job and a daily trade to be honest, I work from home before that's why I can still manage things but it's hard checking on each charts when I'm still working at my job. I dropped it and just focus on doing long term trades. Finding potential break outs and other trading potential is easier on big time frames and it is more rewarding since you are zooming out of the charts.

It just works for me and my situation, profits aren't bad on day trading but I never regrets going for long term trades.

Well long-term trading is good though, but I mostly base on short-term. Best to say in my perspective, most traders myself included, are all looking for quick profit. Not everyone has that capacity to hold a position for like a week. It could indeed cause you some psychological issues, especially when price dips a little. But when it comes to short term trading, it doesn't really take time especially when you are using the 1 hour, 4 hours time frame for analysis, then you use the 40 minutes time frame to confirm, and the 15 minutes to place your trades. That way, it doesn't really take time. If you are going to make a loss, it wouldn't give you that long term panic of watching the price spike. So yeah, personally both are good based on personal psychology and experience. That's all......

Voted Yes.
I also moved to long term after bad short term trading experience. I was checking charts too much and taking quick trades, then most of the profit just got wiped.
Now I just DCA Bitcoin for the long term, less stress for me. Huge "lesson learned" experienced, but yeah, sometimes you just gotta believe.
