Former FBI agent Patrick Steven Yaroch pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering after stealing approximately $2.47 million in crypto across roughly 100 transfers. He gained access to wallet credentials collected during 35 federal investigations into criminal groups and nation-state adversaries. He simply helped himself to the evidence. The Justice Department says the theft compromised active investigations.

Yaroch faces up to 20 years in prison. His post-heist research strategy? Asking ChatGPT for advice on starting a new life in Europe. Apparently the AI didn't flag "fleeing federal charges" as a red flag.

AI is such a powerful tool in the hands of highly intelligent and trained individuals as seen in deep fakes, the sophisticated hacks that has been going around in disturbing frequency and scale, but this same powerful tool in the hands of some becomes their downfall.

Lol, he was not arrested because he asked ChatGPT for investment and relocating advice, of which the Ai suggested Portugal and Yaroch actually started making plans to move to the country. He was caught because he self-reported his crime, apparently due to remorse and i believe the judge would also take that into account during his sentencing.

The FBI would also have to limit the kind of access available to some of their agents. It cannot be this easy for an agent to move funds relating to their investigations, it could compromise a lot of things for them, like it did in this case.
