Problem with Vertminer 0.5.3

I'm new to the forum and I could really use your help..

I'm encountering trouble whenever I try to launch Vertminer 0.5.3 via batch file as this is my preferred method. I don't know wth the problem is or what I could be doing wrong.
Every time I try to launch vertminer via batch file the vertminer window pops up, says it's starting up, then windows freezes. I've waited up to 30 minutes to see if vertminer maybe is just taking it's sweet ass time to startup, but nothing happens. I have to manually hold down the power/reset switch in order to reboot/regain access to windows.

It would be helpful if you shared which video cards you are using.
