In fairness, I sent him a link to this thread asking for a response 04/07/2014.

When the subject of buying BTC with Paypal comes up, I often remember this:

Cover yourself, always insist on escrow where it is warranted.

You'd think that they'd at least try to defend themselves, eh?

Yeah, even something weak and lame. I suspect a sold/hacked account.

Very likely sold. Maybe he saw he could get a quick hundred or so bucks out of his account and took the chance, and now it's costing this guy $850 :/

in all reality it didn't make sense for him to be trading his ltc for my btc in the first place. my rate was like 2% lower than btc-e at the time

Sigh, this kind of stuff always has a price, and it looks like the OP has had to pay it.

I'm very sorry  Sad I sent a PM to Theymos to get the account back or closed. I have no control over it. I hope to get an answer quickly.

Meh. Should have chosen a better password imo. Feedback will not be removed unless I get my btc/ltc and will be added the the new account.

So far no answer from theymos, still waiting. I'm sorry about your loss. I see other accounts have been hacked, maybe it is related.

Since this guy has absolutely no interest in making this right I would like to take over ownership of his account/change the username. The account age/post count has value and I deserve something to cover my losses

My account has been hacked, it is not under my control.

I have been online since the interwebs first became publicly available in Chicago and I've never been "hacked" or had a virus. How the hell does someone with that much time in the BTC world not have a decent password? Maybe people are just dumb?

Bullshit excuses are bullshit imo

This is an interesting proposal.

Tough call, in my opinion -- you are responsible for engaging in a transaction without escrow (can't knock you, though, as I hate using escrow as a seller), and he's responsible for controlling his account.  But again, in my opinion, if he is truthful, he had no malicious intent, and so it's only the hacker you should take issue with despite your desire for compensation.

True. I should have known from the start that him trading LTC for BTC @ 3% below fair market was dumb. His account history is why I sent first without requiring an escrow and that is a mistake I will not make again.
