Can people give Alaska a rest? It was sold by a monarch, so it's not comparable to Crimea or south-East Ukraine, and the poll here https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/alaska-back-russia/SFG1ppfN was started mainly as a call to White House to mind their own internal affairs.

Neither Soviet Union, nor Russia have had any claims on it after it was sold.

It has oil, but you'll not get the permission to extract it. Because most of the deposits are located inside wildlife refuges and national parks, and drilling is banned there because of environmental concerns.
