Ah, okay, so they re-patched their 8.1 Patch to 8.1.1 then... At least something. btw, I'm not really against offering new GUI conventions (even if they break the old ones) - BUT they have to be optional. Had MicroSoft offered to make a simple choice to use either Win2000 - XP - Aero - Metro GUI, they would have saved themselves from alot of trouble. But it seems they preferred to go the Office Ribbons route "Fail to find even the most-used and basic functions!!". On a positive note, all that re-introduced the users back to the Windows Keyboard shortcuts and the console  (which are quicker in producing results than their failed Metro GUI or Ribbons UI any day) Yes exactly, they are offering the option now to by pass the whole modern UI thingy (they don't call it metro as in windows phone and don't know why) Modern UI is good but not right now maybe when they'll be a strong appstore and most have a touch screen device but right now it's just a pain for those who doesn't have those OK. Ima eatin' fried chicken and I get fried chickenshit all over my touchscsreen because MS demands that I do so? LOL! My $.02. |

lol! isn't better than getting it all over your keyboard and screen and stuff ? at least you can just wipe your screen, and in case you can't help your self you can get a Kinect like system to controll windows without touching the screen

That's funny. When I set up someone on a W8 box (heh - w8 box...), they couldn't figure out how to close a picture they opened. I couldn't, either, so that started the first of many lessons on keyboard shortcuts to use the damned thing for simple tasks. I eventually learned the GUI was on the right-hand side due to  . There's no valid reason to do that -- it's unintuitive and that's not a perspective brought on by "resistance to change." Every time something's new and sucks, if you don't like it - you're just "resisting change," like you're the Obsolete Man in a world clearly too sophisticated for his worn presence. I'm convinced MS produces a difficult-to-use, bloated-seeming OS so they can double-up on revenue by then selling the poor enthusiast a W7 license for when they inevitably want to downgrade. By the time W9 is pushed, they'll then buy the latest version since there own is clearly becoming out of date - behind by two releases! With an S3, I can skip the S4, but an S5? Fuck me - I don't want people thinking I'm the only guy in town with an outhouse! It's about as perfect a scheme as possible. Unintuitive design has been pissing me off a good bit, lately, and I think touch screens are probably the pinnacle of bad design. They've been around for decades, but now, in 2015, I still mistype things on my cell phone which I never would on a keyboard and the audio recognition is still somehow so bad that has me asking my mom if she wants to mount dick when I say Mt Gox. Even the giant numbers in the "dial" window, I have trouble using. When I need to get into the MSL menu, if I mis-type it twice, it completely reboots the phone just to be an asshole. The damned thing's slow as molasses, too. Shortcuts? Good luck doodling them. -Then things suddenly freeze up for no discernible reason, so I'm totally sympathetic to resistance to change when almost every hardware and software designer on the planet gives you reason to be. Let me tell you the perfect cell phone design: you use WiDi to project your screen onto a computer monitor, use WiFi to use a PC through VNC, then use BT to connect a keyboard and mouse. Perfect. Damn cell phones and punk-ass kids who practically force them on us... and 3D came and went AGAIN, but not before pushing increased costs on EVERYTHING for something which adds zero value... can't wait for the fifty years to pass so I can kick their asses "due to Alzheimer's"....  |

I still have my Desktop computer running with XP and I haven't done any updates in years, it still work (and I don't keep anything there except few games I play and few books) but no personal data/camera/wallet/creditcard etc...

If you want to keep Windows XP, never use Internet Explorer, Messenger and Outlook (if possible un-install it). These are the applications being used by Microsoft in configuring your computer and operating system. These applications are also being used by hackers to get into your computers.

I'm using XP too..! without any updates from a while now.! It have used so many other OS , Win7 , win8 , Linux and few others..! and it still is one of my fav. |

I am still using Windows XP in my Desktop, although I have W7 in my laptop. I find XP more simple and easier to use as compared to W7. And so far, I am yet to find a reason to favor W7 or W8 over XP!

Browsing or downloading with Windows XP is the best way of getting tons of viruses, spywares, trojans & keyloggers. Watching movie offline is fine. |

Though now I have to convince my grand-mother that she have to install a lightweight linux like Lubuntu (her machine is from 2005). But does not want to, since a 70-80 year old man she know will come next summer and install Windows 7. Good luck I say. |

My first computer ran Windows 95. My second computer ran Windows 98 SE. I currently have a laptop that runs Windows 8, a netbook that runs Windows 7, and a netbook and laptop that runs Windows XP. I also used to own a Vista laptop as well. Out of all of these, I would have to say that XP is by far the best in terms of how well the interface is designed and how fast the whole thing runs. Stability-wise, it is a huge improvement over 9x although Windows 7 and 8 are probably superior security-wise. I WANT MY START MENU!  My $.02. Windows 95 wasn't that bad. It was probably one of the most innovative versions of Windows that Microsoft ever released. And I agree 100% about the start menu thing. There is really not much justification for more MS OS'ms. Are there any essential things that Windows 7 and 8 contain, that XP does not?
Minor updates and bugfixes would be sufficient. Instead there are major releases which are bloated with graphical gimmick that just waste system resources but add nothing substantial.
