OK buddy - merci pour le courrier électronique. Have a nice weekend! Why is it illegal to say 'email' and 'weekend' in France? Every fucking country in the world says: 'computer' - not France: 'ordinateur'.
France invented an internet system called 'minitel' - but the American Internet (invented by Darpa not that punk called Berners-Lee) made minitel look very stupid. Even before that, IBM was a big computer company and France wanted one too, so they made Bull Inc. with taxpayer money. Bull lost billions and billions. France now makes laws against saying things like 'email' because it doesn't want the Americans to ruin their culture - yeah, right.
I'm French and I'm not "fucking hate stuff invented in America".
If you don't hate everything American, then you are not true French - maybe Arab/French.
Well, France bashing on the way... fine...not a big deal...
-Is it really illegal to say "email" and "weekend", here, in France ? : I live in France since 50 years, I say email and weekend all the time and nobody yet condemned me to anything... (perhaps in Quebec...)
-Ordinateur : what a sweet word... and you're right : we are one of the few countries in the world to not use the word"computer" (or a derivative)... thanks to IBM who asked in 1955 to a french linguist to provide a translation to "computer"...
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordinateur#.C3.89tymologie-Minitel : what a crap... but it's ended now... you can be happy for the french people.
-Bull : Touché, c'est "la crème de la crème" of French companies ----> enormous financial losses
-maybe not Arab/french... only french.
Well, in fact to summarise my thoughts, we mix the best of US culture and European culture... but I think you make a mistake : US culture has a strong presence in France (movies, music, books, computers science......) and a majority of french people love US culture...
