A month or two ago I found out the father of a friend of mine is the chairman of an investment club here. Naturally, I brought up bitcoin, although I already knew he wasnt very good with computers; he is a retired pharmacist/owner of quite a few pharmacies. I know he has been reading and researching bitcoin ever since, but hasnt jumped in yet. The technological barrier is pretty big.

Just now he asked me if I wasnt willing to give a little presentation about bitcoin at their next investment club gathering, which is once every 2 months. There will be about 2 dozen attendees, most of them older or retired "upper middle class" (lawyers, doctors, etc) who are obviously all investor/speculators. Should be a good audience, although I fear their PC skills will be rather poor.

Im putting together a powerpoint and will be able to give live demos (laptop, 3g).
Aside from the obvious things, Im looking for some good idea's here, things I should show or explain that I havent thought of yet. Feel free to throw me some ideas.

Make sure you back up your wallet regularly! Unlike a bank account, nobody can help you if you lose access to your BTC.

I would humbly suggest that you just bring as much knowledge as you can to answer their questions, and dont talk about technology.  Use metaphors they understand to explain the benefits and features of bitcoin.

If you are as excited about bitcoins as many of us are, its not hard to infect others once they understand what it is.

I dont plan on avoiding technology. Its not like I will go in to minute details about SHA-256 hashing or whatever, but if they want to get in to bitcoin, they will need a basic high level understanding of the technology behind it and enough knowledge to be able to use it.  Thats why they "need" me,  as I dont think they need me  to understand what leverage on bitcoinica means. But its never smart to invest in to something you dont understand at all.

Genjix made a nice list of points about bitcoin..

I liked it,
brief over each one, dont dive too deep as to lose them..

Try to focus on the whys instead of the whats, talk in ideas behind bitcoin not as much in actually how it works.. If they get on board with the ideas the rest should be cake.

My personality type: INTJ - please forgive my weaknesses (Not naturally in tune with others feelings; may be insensitive at times, tend to respond to conflict with logic and reason, tend to believe I'm always right)

I would suggest running the "weusecoins.com" video which has yet to be surpassed. Make sure to play it in slow motion though, if its a bitcoin primer for your audience.

For an investement club, I would throw in some relevant figures:
1/ Combined market cap of Visa and Mastercard: around 100 Billion USD
2/ Profits of Western Union in 2011: 1 Billion USD (over 70 Billion USD transferred, market cap around 10 billion USD)
3/ Current valuation of the bitcoin network: around 0.05 Billion USD

No problem with deflation (subject of a popular thread of this forum): thanks to infinite divisiblity, even if there is only one bitcoin left for transaction processing and all other 21 million bitcoins are hoarded, we can still process transactions normally.

Western Union moved $70 billion across borders in 2010, earning about $1 billion in profits. There’s no Bitcoin Inc. to compete directly with Western Union, but the owners of Bitcoins can be thought of as shareholders in a decentralized Western Union alternative. If the Bitcoin network captures a small fraction of Western Union’s money-transfer business, the currency’s current “market capitalization” of around $30 million could wind up looking downright puny.

Source article.

Investors don't care how cool bitcoin is.  They want to know how much potential profit there is in investing in it. Comparing Bitcoin to Western Union really is the best way to show the potential value of bitcoin.  I'd list the benefits (explained in the source I provided) of Bitcoin over Western Union and how undervalued it is in contrast.

Bitcoin allows wealth to be transferred across international borders without the expense or government scrutiny that comes with traditional wire transfers.

Just tell them if they invest 5000$ in bitcoins there's a good chance the price of bitcoin will grow by 100% and they will have 10,000$ and so on. Just fool them into investing into bitcoin, who cares if they understand bitcoin or not, it's only their money that matters.

Just wondering if anything came from this or if anyone else has found interest from investment clubs.

Any significantly advanced cryptocurrency is indistinguishable from Ponzi Tulips.
