my first day of bit-coin-er-ing involved no basic protection (such as sandboxie)

finally decided to do a scan and discovered this little gem in my %appdata%/local/temp folder -> InstallMonetizer.exe (451,963b)

i am assuming it's a rootkit installer version of stealthcoin or similar, too bad i have been running my miner flat out so they get no chance at my GPU

any ideas?

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

InstallMonetizer is a program that allows a certain payout per install. Suppose you install a piece of software, the installer with InstallMonetizer connects to the internet to report an install +1. The developer then gets credit. Check http://www.installmonetizer.com/.

It's not necessarily harmful, but you should be wary.

I've used an installer with this thing and it was completely harmless. It's not accurate to say that it is straight up malware, but it could function as such.

Yet another piece code which calls the mother-ship for "a most important" reason. Duh.

I tried installing some freeware and then my Symantec Endpoint Protection anti-virus detected the InstallMonetizer.exe file, classified it as a heuristic virus and then quarantined it.  I then got an error message pop-up from Install Wizard that stated "cannot find... InstallMonetizer.exe" at the path in my user profile C:\Documents and Settings\[my user profile name]\Local Settings\Temp\.  The software I installed still worked properly, however.

Also, forgot to mention that Symantec classified the virus as "Suspicious.Cloud.2", Category: malware (and as previously mentioned, Sub category: Heuristic Virus).

People should be wary about apps like this.I think this is 100% malware. The guy who claims to work for the company who makes this app isn't telling us.He claims that 'it wouldn't be good for business' wow. Enough reason for me to stay well away from that guy and his app.If you are honest about an app,be transparent(to the guy who claims to work for them).
