Dead Radeon fan?  This is the standard fan used in most reference boards.

Please note, it is not an easy job to change the fan, thermal pads and/or grease are required as well but if you do it right your card may work better then factory as some of the cards have a poor work originally.

I swapped out the fan on my 5970's no thermal grease or pads added, just put it back together, temps are normal.

Do these fit the reference 5970 HSF?

If you're searching these lines for a point, you've probably missed it.  There was never anything there in the first place.

1 left.  After that it will be three weeks for me to get in new stock.  I ordered before Chinese new year, but my next order will not ship to me until that ends.

IF THE STATUS SAYS "PRE-ORDER" I am indeed out of stock and you will not get your fan quickly.

when I put the thing back together the shroud is pressing against the fan and the fan cant spin, like the fan is just a half millimeter to big ,

I sent you an email about this before, I just assumed it was the wrong part the part numbers are different from the fans you sell and the fans that come out of the gpu

if I am doing something wrong putting it back together or something I would love for that to be the case but I dont see how it could be.

what do you think?

It is possible that you got it a little wrong.  These are the same fans 5970 5870 for a whole bunch of reference boards used in mining.

There really are a lot of screws involved in this repair, and something may be not fully tight.

the last thing that could be wrong is a screw is not fully tight, if anything its too tight!

I want to believe you that this is the right fan and I am sure you believe it is yourself,

but dude please understand although admittingly I am not specifically incredibly experienced with dissembling GPUs - this is not my first time playing with hardware, I own a bricks and mortar computer repair shop that specializes in laptop repair, ive been doing this professionally for 16 years - there is not really that much to these things your looking at less than 20 screws and only 2-4 different screw types depending on the model, youve got the shroud, the fan the pcb board with the gpu and vr,

it goes like this

1) remove all screws
2) remove back plate
3) remove gpu compression plate + more screws depending on model
4) gently pry apart
5) take screws off fan
6) screw fan into shroud, plug into board
7) clean off old thermalpaste and apply new
Cool reassemble

and believe me here I WANT TO BE WRONG but I just dont see what I am missing, maybe someone else here who has specific experience replacing gpu fans could tell me what im doing wrong, im thinking maybe if I had some kind of spacer or something ? I dunno - I just want to put my gpu back together! Tongue

Have you turned if off and on again?

(that is, taken it back apart entirely and tried again?)

Yea, I know, I'm full of useful advice /sarcasm

I was thinking myself that taking GPUs apart isn't exactly rocket science, I took my 5830 apart to inspect it before giving the eBay seller feedback (because at the time I didn't have the rig set up)

I have actually replaced the fan on three reference cards so far

the first one I ever replaced I purchased the fan from ebay, it was for a reference 5970, the part number matched exactly the dead fan, the repair went perfectly, applied new thermalpaste put it back together without a hitch the card is now running better than ever

the other two were reference 5870s a 1gb and a 2gb model , I replaced the fans , but the shrouds wont fit and allow the fans to spin, I am fortunate enough to have a very good cooling situation and I can run these cards with no shrouds with the fans spinning at 50% and they stay in the 50s and 60s

I have not had time to rethink this process hands on and figure out what I did wrong but I cant imagine what it is

all I can think is the fan is just very slightly too tall, like the fan sits up off its base too much or something of that nature

I have installed a few of these myself now on reference 5870's and not had that problem.  You possibly had a wire hung up under the fan mounting or not in the channel right.
