I think I thought it out fair, and will use the guiminer for each card. but anything blantantly stupid?

Pretty good..although for a dedicated miner you really do not need a 1 TB hd, unless you plan to use it for some other purpose as well..ie file server?

That Rosewill power supply though, is it reliable and can you trust it with a high end card like the 5870? What do the reviews say?

Oh yeah a 1KW power supply will be more than enough. Just remember that if you're going to overclock them your power usage will go up and often it does not increase in a linear fashion - in other words there are diminishing returns.

Where have you priced this build? Newegg?

depends if you mind buying used etc.

A dedicated miner, IMO, should at least have 2* 5970 or 6990s, but IMO, a dedicated miner should be 4* 5970 or 6990 (using linux), as that is what will give the best return on your investment. Dedicated miners are a risky business if you pay for electricity, and even more risky if you pay more than 10cents the KW/h

A good 650w PSU will run 2 5870s at stock clocks and a Sempron.  Of course, if you are using a CPU above a Sempron or overclocking you might want to go with 700w or 750w.

I'm running a pair of 170W cards and an overclocked Core i7 950 on a 700W power supply just fine.  Any 1000W power supply that follows the ATX spec will run a pair of 5870s at whatever overclock they can feasibly run at as well as all of the other components in your system, but you would've been fine using an 850W PSU as well.  I'm sure that 1000W unit you got will be more than enough.

I agree. HX1000W is the one I have and it's a beast..it should easily handle two 5970s let alone 5870. HX850 would be a good one. The TX series are excellent as well. But if I'm not mistaken Corsair's power supplies are typically a bit more expensive than the competition. Isn't all of the U.S at least 12 cents KW/h?

You have a lot of unnecessary equipment for a dedicated mining machine imo. Also, when you factor in electricity cost and mining difficulty increasing I'd be interested to know how long it would take for you to eventually generate enough BTC to cover the cost of your equipment. I'd guess 9 months if it's running 24/7.
