This is an exploration of the possible future price of BTC with the assumption that historical price charts are an indication of future valuation of bitcoin.

Short version: Buy now for $500, sell in August for $2,500.

You're such a (greedy) optimist! Cheesy Sorry, but highest Bitcoin (with no bad news on the horizon for the entire year) is $1,300.

By the end of next month at the latest we will have permanently left behind 3 digits. You can quote me on this.

That actually looks about right.  Many people are predicting that we might see around $5000 on the next run.  Should be fun.  Smiley

Interesting prediction. However, I would be quite surprised if bitcoin price would reach $2500 level this year (given the current turmoil on bitcoin market).

Bitcoin is volatile so peak at 5,000 to 10,000 in 8 months if some interesting news comes out
Or just a modest climb back to 1200 and the rise is in next year

Believing in Bitcoins and it's ability to change the world

We need some really big names accepting the Bitcoins to take it past the 2K mark. (reaching the 1K mark doesn't need that, as we have previously seen). These big names can be Amazon, Ebay, Facebook or even Twitter. But right now, the chances of any such acceptance is near Zero. So in an optimistic scenario, I would expect the prices to be in the $1,200-1,500 range.

Second Market's Bitcoin ETF on wall street coming out in the fourth quarter isn't big enough?

1300 is the most funny one, you have to not understand markets completely to consider such a high is possible at all. Once the ATH is broken, it's going to multiply in no time. News are just a vehicle for bitcoin price movements, nothing more.

So yeah, OP has quite a legit price range prediction. 4-7k by end of summer, then retraction to 2500.

The timeline I've really got no clue on, but I really like the range and retraction numbers you mentioned!

Those price predictions you quote would imply a market cap of 50-100 billion if i'm not mistaken. Do you think we'll actually get to that point this year? Not trying to troll or be bearish; I'm genuinely curious about what you think would pump the market up to that point. The fabled wall street money due to hit early summer? Something else?

you must understand that a market cap of 100 billion does not mean somebody spent 100 billion on buying coins; it's more like 2-3 billion of actual money. thats the way it works with any commodity. so yes, I do believe there are several billion curious dollars waiting on the sidelines now. for what? no idea, I'm not a billionaire. a publicly tradeable fund, a safe and reliable storage method, maybe a personal money manager suggesting to diversify into bitcoin, whatever. It will happen when it becomes obvious that bitcoin is not going to die now, because when one direction is ruled out, only one remains - a path to profit Smiley

Look.  Bitcoin has gone up at least 10× every year (100× last year).

And since it still seems early in its logarithmic adoption curve, the onus is on the newbs to explain why it WON'T go another 10× this year.
