I just wanted to share my experience placing a rather large Bitcoin order through Overstock.

1. Shop Overstock website for a total amount.

2. Added Coupons/Promo Code

3. When to checkout. Selected Bitcoin payment

4. Coinbase site comes up and says it has ten minutes to submit payment

5. Sent payment to Overstock within 1 minutes with android totaling 4.9BTC

6. No email from Overstock and order never completes. Overstock has no record of order!! But, Bitcoins deducted from wallet!!!

7. One full day on the phone to get Bitcoins refunded. Coinbase has a Overstock Order ID, but Overstock has no record of the Order ID.

8. Bitcoins refunded (Thank God!)

9. However, Flash deal now expired / Coupons expired . Prices of items increase $300

10. On the phone with Overstock support another day

11. Over stock fixed pricing. Replaced order. Same issue

12. Now repeat!

I'm done using Bitcoin for large Transations. Just trying to place a simple online order. Nightmare

Complete waist of time.. Hours now off my life.

Do you have the tx id?  I would be curious to see what might have been the problem.

Any new system will have serious issues in the early stages.
Hopefully, your story will help them figure out how to make the process better?

It was probably the coupon codes that screwed it up.

I've bought with BTC on overstock numerous times.

Usually just load up QT and send to the address they give me.

Nary a problem.

I have always had issues with coinbase payments being sent. I usually purchase through them, but send it to another wallet for payments

Actually, my Overstock orders have gone flawlessly, but my Bitpay order through TigerDirect was a nightmare where they:

* Failed to have a record of the order
* After I got them to acknowledge my order, they sent me an e-mail stating they were still waiting for payment
* I repeatedly talked to people in India showing them on the blockchain that I sent the correct bitcoin amount as requested to the correct address; they suggested I take it up with the "Bitcoin company" (they didn't mean Bitpay, the guy actually thought Bitcoin was a company)
* I did chat help and they assured me my order would ship
* I never got a tracking number
* I took to Twitter to complain and maybe get a human in this country, they assured me my order was fine now
* My package finally showed up completely unannounced
* A week later, I was invoiced for the whole amount since it was "unpaid"

So, YMMV.

You sent after one minute, but when did you get an acutal tx id, when did the tx hit the network, and when did you get the first confirmation? 95% of complaints like this are because someone sent from a wallet that didn't really send the coins in a timely manner.  Not much overstock or coinbase can do about that.

Just out of curiosity, what was the large item you tried to purchase on Overstock?

Just want to search the site to see if it'd be worthwhile.

When Bitcoin was coming down off its December ATH I purchased a flatscreen TV from Overstock - 0.33 BTC.

It was quicker than using a credit card and I don't think I even had to make an account. Coinbase rocks.

Like the other guy said, your mileage may vary.

By the end of next month at the latest we will have permanently left behind 3 digits. You can quote me on this.

does coinbase have a supernode IP for people to add to make sure it relays to them to ensure they see it in a timely manner.. i know this does not help it get confirmed any faster, as thats an issue to do with greedy miners setting priority to people that pay huge fee's.. but atleast ensuring coinbase see's an unconfirmed tx instantly, should help a little.
