Just to counter-act the bears.

Will update if this situation ever changes, and can be bumped when rumours spread again

That's true.  Btw those exchange sites are processing new withdrawals now?  If not, Chinese can't dump their bitcoins.

The headline has to start with "BREAKING: ", for greater effect.

Yeah Bitcoins aren't banned......banks are merely forbidden from having anything to do with any Bitcoin trades whatsoever.....

.....but just to be clear, the PBOC have absolutely nothing against Bitcoin.

important to remember that....  Roll Eyes

Bitfinex victims. DO NOT TOUCH THE BFX TOKEN! Start moving it around, or trading it, and you will be construed as having accepted it as an alternative means of payment to your USD, BTC, etc.

No one claimed bitcoin in itself was banned by China, that was never the case but I keep seeing silly threads like this one.

It was always bans of deposit and withdrawal methods first third party processors then banks. Chinese authorities know bitcoin being decentralized cannot be banned directly so the only way is to make it so hard to invest that the masses simply exit and don't bother with it.

maybe the chinese will introduce "effective double taxation".  sales tax when you buy the bitcoins.  capital gains when you sell.

All the ban stories coming out of China are nothing more than attempts to manipulate the price.

Of course it isn't banned. You can legally own bitcoins. You just can't buy them or sell them through exchanges, lol.
