I know that a premine of 40-50% is hard to justify, but with the investment we're making in marketing there's no way we could leave 95% on the table, simply too risky given the way mining is evolving, so we have to ask the mining community to trust us to use the marketing bank of coins to build the value of the coin. We're working from a branded coin POV rather than a traditional altcoin approach.
When I started researching encrypted currencies, I noticed that there were a ton of coins being made but really only one that the media knows about and talks about. Without promotion and public awareness, demand for a coin will stay flat. Worse than that, with all the new coins floating around, any new alt will get buried without strong and consistent marketing. We believe we can give the media a new coin to talk about because we'll be building the conversation with multimedia and we'll do it over time. It will be a careful, consistent, patient approach, but we believe it will work. I have tried to contact some of the folks who seem to have decent marketing behind their coins. They don't return calls. From all that I've read, this business is more than a bit troubled by bad press and shady characters. But anyone can reach me here on this subforum, or through my website: artisan-media-group.com, or soncoin.com (full site will be up in about a week), on linkedin - Les Butchart - on Facebook, or through highway29motionpictures.com. You can also read my books and watch the movies I've made. I'm a real, reachable person, and I can be trusted, but trust usually only comes with time, and that's true for a person or a new altcoin.
So why did we create SonCoin? We are marketing people more than we are tech people, but we came up with a couple of cryptocurrency concepts that got us motivated to delve into this world, which is really your world more than ours. We could use help, too. In fact, we need a Mac wallet if anyone knows a good resource for that.
For those who think we are being sacrilegious, well, I knew we'd get criticism for being a "Christian coin" and yet as a writer who has a story based on Christian/biblical concepts and themes, I have to go where the writing takes me, so I ended up with a SonCoin at the end of the creative process. "SON" actually stands for Sons of Noah, btw, as well as Son of God or Son of Man.
Thanks to all the miners who started mining SonCoin this week, we really, really appreciate your willingness to take the ride with us. To the Scrypt miners who have thus far taken a pass, we hope you'll reconsider. We need a great group of miners for SonCoin and for our next coin, which is also Scrypt, but a very different marketing concept, very global, very creative, not religious, a much bigger total, and a small marketing premine. That coin will pop in another month or so and it too will be extremely media-worthy.
All the best, Les Butchart
