Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Note: I do plan to vote for Greg Abbot, but I'm not posting this to campaign... I just think it's pretty cool that he's paying attention to Bitcoin. This could get us noticed by some people who normally wouldn't care.

Another Republican accepting Bitcoin donations. Now we have a large number of Republicans, at least one Democrat and multiple Libertarians accepting Bitcoins for their campaigns in the US. What is important in this case is that Greg Abbott is almost certain to win the Texas gubernatorial election of 2014. It really helps to have a governor (and that too in one of the most popular states) who supports Bitcoins!
