Mark Karpeles, the chief executive of MtGox, said he would not come to the United States to answer questions about the Japanese Bitcoin exchange’s US bankruptcy case, MtGox lawyers told a federal judge on Monday. In the court filing, MtGox lawyers cited a subpoena from the US Department of Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, which has closely monitored virtual currencies like bitcoin.

The rule of the law is not applicable to the super-rich!

It is the duty of the Japanese authorities to extradite him to the US to face justice. But it seems that right now they are unwilling to do so, whatever may be their reasons. So we are helpless.

No it's not. It is their duty to prosecute accordingly when there has been a crime committed from within their jurisdiction. Are they going to extradite him to every country that had customers that lost money? What makes the US so special that you believe he belongs there? We know for a fact that the US authorities closed his US accounts and thereafter made it almost impossible for him to operate within the US. Why on earth would it be their responsibility to prosecute him now?

I don't care much about the news headlines. The Mt Gox scandal has already did huge damage to Bitcoin in terms of publicity. It will not get any worse now. The important part is that Mark Kerpeles should be brought to justice.
