Hi Everyone,

I've been kicking around this idea for a while now and I'm hoping others might find it interesting and help me develop it.

What it boils down to is: A coin with features decided by voting on this thread.

Everything from the name, Algorithm, PoW or PoS, limited coin number or infinite number, block time, block reward, mining or free distribution, premine etc. All the features would be decided by polls done right here on this forum.

Unfortunately I lack the skills required to produce such a coin, but I would love to see this idea come to fruition. So please, lets work together as a community and make a coin that is what we want and can more universally support.

First step would be to make a list of all the features you would like voted on, including all the desired alternatives. I've listed a few I can think of and will update this post with ideas from below, let me know what to make the options for each feature!

Lets do this!

Escamillo

Features for voting:

  • Coin name
  • Mining or Distribution
  • Algorithm
  • PoW, PoS or Combined
  • Coin number
  • Block time
  • Block reward
  • Premine or community supported bounties
  • Airdrop?

There seems to be one with an airdrop feature but I like this idea, complete community driven coin based on foundations.

There are coins with enough different iterations of the features you mentioned. No need of another one

Sounds pretty cool to me. I'm also pretty useless if it comes to 'making' a coin, but I'd be curious to see the kinds of decision you have to make.

All aboard unknown community coin!

So let's brainstorm about some new features! I feel like every coin needs a gimmick, being designed by such a big community could be a pretty good one!

Well, there's that name gone Tongue

Not such a fan of IPOs though. Will be voting against that option if it comes up!

think you can have it developed after features were chosen?

If we can gain enough steam I'm sure there's enough developers kicking around here that someone would take notice. I'm just trying to help alleviate the same 20 pages of bitching at coin decisions after each announcement. This also serves as a way to tell developers what the community wants from a coin.

Having said that, if someone is interested in developing this and is willing to put there name on the project, shoot me a message.

I think a better approach instead of voting on features is:

- Have lots of people declare that they're tired of all the crapcoins and they're going to support an actual innovative coin.

- Solicit proposals for new coins over a two week period.  This allows devs to have new features beyond those already known.

- After the two weeks are over, people get one week to vote for the proposal they like best.  Limit voters to those with accounts of a certain age and activity to avoid fraud.

- Everyone agrees to support the winning coin even if they voted for a different proposal.

- Give the developer a month or so to actually develop the coin.

- Launch, profit, etc.

Oh, and a strict no-existing-coins rule for the proposals.  Otherwise you'll end up with "camps" from existing coins arguing why theirs is the best.

I feel like while this is a good alternative, it would be impossible to implement. Forcing people to support something on the internet isn't exactly easy to do.

By the amount of coins flooding the market it would appear that the barrier to producing a coin is low enough that with a good proposal there's no real need to jump through all of these self-imposed hoops.
